Hi Justin. You did an amazing job with this video - well done. Even I didn’t know some of the things you covered and I was one of the original product managers for Betty. I named Zoe after my dog and Hannah - because I loved that name. Lucy is named after my niece. There are many stories behind the names. I wrote Betty’s diary pages as well. The late 90’s were a lot of fun with Betty. I left the company in 1999 so was not involved after that point. I have to see if I can find you a Betty in Paris set. The first year, I took her on QVC and sold out in less then 10 minutes- multiple times. One thing not mentioned is that we really tried to design her and create a story for her that was somewhat agnostic sexually. We didn’t want that to be a part of her play - instead we focused on innocence and creativity- childhood without the puberty enhance hormones. That - in retrospect- was probably her greatest strength and weakness considering the popularity of Bratz. Thanks again!

      Hi, Elena.
Thank you so much!!! I'm really fascinated by Betty's history and her development, and I really admire the amount of effort and input you and everyone else at Ohio Art put on the final product. I also love the fact that you named some of the characters after your dog, that is so cute!!
By the way, if you ever find a Betty In Paris set, email me!!

I can't get enough of those stop motion commercials, they are so adorable; Betty would be pretty ideal as a stop motion character because of all her posable features, it's too bad that society had moved on from the dolls around the time that that kind of content was getting really popular on youtube. I couldn't get enough of their use of translucent sparkling plastics, the accessories (esp. the shoes!!!) looked soooo good with that material.

    • @4everbratz
      @4everbratz  Рік тому +5

Now that you mention it, I’m shocked they never produced a stop-motion animated series based on Betty Spaghetty. It would’ve been a great way to establish the characters’ personalities and dynamics.
I love their outfits and accessories, so cute!! 😍

What a great video! These dolls were such a tactile experience - you have hairplay, interchangeable fashions, and poseability! It's probably the same reason why I enjoyed the What's Her Face line too (minus the articulation).

Betty was a great stimming fidget before fidgets became their own industry. All those smooth twisty shapes, slotting pieces together & pulling them apart, spinning the beads. Tactile Dream Doll.

I can still find the 2016 dolls in a store near my house... and I don't think anyone will be buying them anytime soon.
I don't know how, but Glasslite released a Betty Spaguetty clone in 2000, called Bella Magricela, the same mold as Betty but with weird colors and no interchangeable parts.

Very informative! I learned a lot watching this. You did some very thorough research.
I was 10 years old when Betty Spaghetty first came out. I loved her! Before Betty I had only ever had Barbies who I found stiff and unexpressive. I loved Betty because I could pose her with much more expressive gestures. I also loved her innocence and that she seemed to not take herself too seriously.
    Thanks for the delightful nostalgia!

This was such a fun video! I really wish Moose would consider bringing her back or selling her to another company. I think a reboot following in the steps of her first iteration but updated would be so much fun! There’s not a lot of dolls like Betty out there, so it would definitely fill a niche.

Exactly! A modern reboot that takes elements from G1 but modernizes it for a new generation would be awesome! She truly was one-of-a-kind ✨

Best doll ever! I got my first set in 2000 at 9 years old for Christmas. I loved the book that came with each set. It had all the sets inside & I'd spend hours looking through it, wishing I had 'em all.
The Hollywood set was my first one. I got the Australian set later on, but I didn't play with it as much (I was getting older).

I don’t think I ever knew the older versions of Betty ever existed before becoming more interested in doll collecting and history as a teenager but as a kid I was OBSESSED with shopkins and shoppees and also doll review and customization channels so I was more familiar with 2016 Betty and I wanted her so bad omgggg, I really liked the huge Miku pigtails, chewable plastic and cutesy almost j fashion outfits at times and to see her packaged dolls which were black and brown also have that style fascinated me because it was and still is really rare for those styles to go to any doll other than white ones in the west, it also reminded me of the lalaloopsy girls that came out then (it’s probably the reason moose even bought it, lalaloopsy’s noodle bodies and the later stringy hair were basically just the 2010 version of Betty and also appealed to a similar younger target demo) which I thought were so cute and were my favorite chew toys, the only plastic that rivals it in level of flavored choking hazard is Polly pocket pls- but I can see how it kinda missed the point of the doll, the customization was near non existent and it really blended into the background, I think they had a better vision than 2007 Betty which seemed unsure about which niche she wanted to fill and whether to go more basic fashion doll that could appeal to an older audience at the time or the more experimental 90s Y2K Betty, but neither could touch the amount of uniqueness the original Betty had, the designs and especially the concept art are fantastic and were probably the best kids art dolls ever made, I kinda don’t wish Betty ever gets another comeback or atleast not right now, the doll scene is so crowded and i really don’t see a place for her considering the amount of polished collector ready detail in the leading newer doll lines, a newer incarnation would flop harder than cave club and end up in orphanage toilets and landfills… I’d hate to see more wasted plastic and talent of designers…

This makes my sound so young but I loved the 2016 reboot when I was younger 😂. I used to love watching commercials on UA-cam and saw Betty spaghetti dolls the old ones. Once I saw a reboot came out I relly wanted one and then got a couple at tj max. I mean as a kid they hit the spot

HOLY F*CK YOU'RE AN AKRONITE LIKE ME!!!😭😭😭😭 Sorry sorry I just got WAY too excited about that fun fact since our town seems to be almost unheard of or never spoken about. Wonderful recap of Betty Spaghetti though! Even though I never received one for very dumb reasons by my mom as a child, I always thought she was a pretty cool concept. I bet she'd make an excellent fidget toy if she were to be rereleased today.

I think Mommy Long Legs was basically what happens when you fuse Betty Spaghetty with Spinel from Steven Universe & throw a little Spider DNA into the mix, I'm just thankful that Betty may be Gone but still not Forgotten?

Interesting video btw! It's such a shame that Betty didn't appeal that much in 2016 due to.. everything, but it's really interesting to learn more about her past release and other characters aswell! (lunar eclipse is so goddamn underrated. That she needs the glowing hair gimmick from future releases which she was apparently never apart of-) amazing video though!

  • @dabblinginvariety

I do remember Betty Spaghetti pretty well, obviously I remember them from the website more than the actual doll line in stores lol Granted I don't even remember if they were on shelves at the local stores I shopped at as a kid. My state usually doesn't get such luxuries. It was cool to learn that they did try to bring the brand back. I actually had no idea and thought they went completely under after 2004.
It is funny though that you bring up the Poppy Playtime reference as when chapter 2 released, my boyfriend and I were watching Markiplier play it and I instantly recognized the resemblance, but when I told my boyfriend about it, he actually had no recollection of the dolls at all so he didn't see it.

I remember having some of the G2 dolls when I was younger and I did have 1 or 2 of the G1 dolls as a doll collector, but I never had a full set.
Yeah, I remember seeing new comments on videos related to Betty Spaghetty and they always seem to mention Poppy Playtime and/or Mommy Long Legs and I had to look it up and see what it is and it’s a video game franchise, which is interesting.
