Paul Verhoeven was close to going crazy (appointments and a lot more) and they tried to make some shots. No way. The first costume has to been rebuild. The first part was full of different problems. Some small (tiny) shots was full of problems. And they made it anyway. This film is great, till today.

There's something about the robbery scene, the audio track in particular. The way the tv show plays as a grotesque laugh track to the robbery brilliantly increases the tension. After the cacophony of violence when Robocop busts in, we hear the "I'd buy that for a dollar" line again. This time however it's packed with menace and underlined by the buzzing drone of the score. Look at the expressions on the couple's faces. The woman's is awash with relief and maybe a hint of arousal? The man is paralyzed with fear and betrays a horrifying realization that he could never measure up to this unstoppable force of state/corporate power that just stomped through his life. All at once this scene is hilarious, satirical, thrilling, thought provoking and terrifying. Verhoeven is top boy.
