- If you told me 37 year old Jonathan Quick STILL be making Scorpion leg saves after all these years, I would not believe you. But reminiscent of his save 9 years ago against the Jets, last night he made another stunning save! Certainly a save of the year candidate...but not so fast! Juuse Saros within the SAME HOUR made an unbelievable diving superman glove save against Patrick Kane in Detroit. Two of the top saves we will se all year came just minutes apart, amazing! As for the game, with the New York Rangers coming into Florida against the Panthers, we got ourselves a fantastic game. Plenty of action, amazing saves from Quick and Bobrovsky, a scary elbow from Lafrenière on Barkov and a nail biting finish. I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video!

Which was better - Quick OR Saros?
I think the scorpion save was better but I’m a Kings fan so I’m probably biased here
Very hard to choose. As much that I love Quick and the flexibility he shows on the age of 37, I have to go for Saros. Unreal.

I grew up a preds fan watching pekka rinne make highlight reel saves, and the save by saros reminded me of pekka rinne so much. Such an elite netminder and it was sad to see him go.

My mouth was wide open after i saw Kane get robbed by Saros. absolutely unreal save
We love Big Daddy Kane, but that was outstanding by Saros.
Another goalie that is doing pretty good right now is Joey Daccord. Now I am biased as I am a kraken fan, but the guy hasn’t let in a in a breakaway in the past 10 games and almost got a shutout against the kings!
One of respect for quick but this is why he was traded

You are solid in your narrative. Which one better? Quick I’d say with his anticipatory fortune, still, he anticipated correctly. The one concern I have now, being from Denver and inaugural Avalanche FanATTICk, is that we will be facing off with both of these teams by weeks end. What a battle of two upper echelon teams. Thanks.

Tho that quick save undoubtedly amazing, Saros’ save was insane, I was in the building and the wherewithal he needed to throw himself across the crease in the correct amount of time was nothing short of spectacular.

quick was always vulnerable over his shoulders. when the pucks gets down low he plays deep in his net and crouches. as soon as the east figures that out the rangers will go plummeting down the standings.

Quick does indeed struggle there, but they got Igor Shesterkin, who's already a budding superstar in the net.

The East doesn't know? Quick was always very aggressive. This season after working with Benoit Allaire the Rangers Goaltending coach, he is playing deeper in the net, standing up and making himself big whichhas allowed him to get from side to side much quicker, so to speak. He is using a different style and since he is on a 25 game pace, there is less time to solve it. Goaltenders come to the Rangers and improve for years now.
the thing about Quick's scorpion save is that he blocked the shot with the back of his calf where there is no pad
"where theres not a lot of padding" fixed that for ya. if you look at a still frame you'll see most of his caff is covered. these guys have chicken legs from the knees down.

Hockey in general has been incredibly fun to watch this year just as a hockey fan. One night you have 2 Michigan goals and then next night you have 2 legitimate save if the year candidates on the same night. Ya just love to see it!
Ugh. Tho very pretty and you need insane hands to pull off, the Michigan is a cheat. The guys that pull it off are good enough that they can score from anywhere. Just look at McDavid. He's the best and didn't get there by cheap goals.

Quick being 37 almost 38 and still athletic enough to pull that off is INSANE. That's gotta be save of the year. Saros was great but he's nearly a decade younger than quick

What’s helping Quickie, is the fact that he’s not the primary goalie. He’s able to get enough rest to keep fresh.
If he could actually stay in position he would not need to make lucky saves.

Quick save is more impressive than saros.
It's too bad the Panthers play by play are such homers and honestly didn't even bother to characterize it as an amazing save. It's important for announcers to point out good hockey plays when you see it, otherwise you foster a fanbase that can only sus out whether a team is any good unless they're winning games.
Honestly both were good as a goalie myself scorpion saves are something i have only ever done once it is tough to do especially one like that it is my favourite save i have seen in awhile besides that fleury save.

Gotta be Quick for my money. Yes the superman save is awesome too, but damn. 37 years old, no-look scorpion after an already pretty impressive toe save. Absolutely incredible.

Between Quick & Saros, the best save isn't even close. You see goalies dive to make a glove save every week, but the backwards leg-up maneuver is eyes-in-the-back-of-his-head Hasek-like. You see something like that about once a decade.

Canucks fan, can’t believe he’s back to his Stanley Cup form. But then again we ran into an aged Tim Thomas and he was Boston’s backbone for a few years. Goalies are just weird, Quick is crazy though, future HOF. Even crazier when you remember he’s Shesterkin’s backup. Best goalie combo in the league

Scorpion saves aren't great saves. They're desperation moves that rarely work and when they do everyone acts like it was the most amazing thing a goaltender ever achieved

people that swoon over these types of saves really don’t understand the art of goaltending. These are really more luck than skill, with some effort obviously. They are not plays by skilled goaltenders, typically skill guys just stay quiet and make the puck hit them….
People that make comments like this really don’t understand the art of goaltending. No one is ever winning 3 Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe with “luck”…
@@billymays7210 good thing he didn't say that then. he said that save was more luck than skill and as a goalie I agree. you need skill to be in a position to attempt that save, but actually stopping the puck is mostly luck. same with the Saros glove save. if he reaches low its a goal, high its a goal so you play the odds that someone like Kane is going to shoot middle to insure he doesn't miss. but no one said Quick was mostly luck. and the comment you made just shows how bad reading comprehension has gotten.

Saros is cool and all, but the glove is meant to catch pucks.
Not 100% certain, but it looks like Quick stopped that with the back of his leg, which, of course, has no padding. That had to hurt!
There's padding back there, just not as thick. Goalies are used to pain, theres always a few shots a game that seem to really sting
The only one better than the Quick saves was Hasek.. and he did it routinely.. (which is why he's in the HOF)..

As a kings fan, it’s only mildly annoying seeing him do so poorly at the end of his time with the Kings, and now doing some incredible things like this with the bluejackets (lol) and now the rangers. And of course both teams are powerhouses this year. Hopefully the final will be a rematch from a decade ago
trading him probably lit the fire under him that he needed. He got too comfortable on the kings I think. If we kept him I don't think he would be playing like he is now tbh
