    After messing around with Batocera, finding roms, bios, making sure bios was in right place, etc etc, it would be really nice to buy an all in one plug and play that plays at least up to Dreamcast, PS1 and some N64 and Saturn. I can see the merits in buying a ready made plug n play system like this.

    It all depends on what you want to play. Honestly one of the cheapest things to mod for retro gaming is the good old Nintendo Wii. It's pretty easy to hack and you can find one anywhere cheap.

      How do u hack a Wii?

    • @AlexMitchell-i1g

      Loads of info here on UA-cam. I found it to be the easiest system to soft mod. Also there are wiki websites that give info on how to do it. I suggest some of the guides here on UA-cam. Just look up "soft mod Wii".

      Have to agree, it was the easiest to do and once done, can install virtual console games also.

    I got sucked in and bought the GT super king box and paid way to much for it😢 and now I have learnt so much have a ps3 and just put retroarch on it, and now we have hand helds that are cheaper and better like Arbernic, powkiddy etc. U can actually build your own arcade retro machine for cheaper and better, but a few years ago they seemed kinda good

    I'm using an HP 620 thin client for kodi and batocera. It runs Dreamcast great and I can play both burnout games for psp on 60 fps with cell shading ;) (it looks so freaking awesome)

    • @markianclark9645
      @markianclark9645 6 днів тому

      koffieleut...I have one too...funny thing is...that t620 is about the only mini PC I own that does not run emulation...I have had 3 Thin Clients..2 left..the other IGEL runs 2 emulation station front ends...the t620 runs Win10...a dedicated Linux gaming PC with Batocera...several Android TV boxes with Batocera...and more Pi's than a cake shop...dozens of Chinese emulation handhelds and consoles...and a couple of dozen retro original Japanese consoles and handhelds...now that I've finally moved to a large flat...they're not all stacked up to the ceiling on 2 walls...I can actually access them...oh and of course 10 other PC's and 8 Laptops...a few running emulation too

  • @hygrave2892
    @hygrave2892 6 днів тому

    Skip these dime a dozen systems that will never run anything higher than PS1, and even skip at times on that. Grab a used S22 Galaxy for $100 to $150, with Dex and save yourself the immense hassle. Even phones from 2009 can run PS1 flawlessly.
    I guess those who collect would be the only ones who would do otherwise. Like Wicked of course, at least he gets a small kickback from these videos to support his habit, lmao. It's ok Wicked, you can get help anytime with this addiction to cheap Chinese systems, and the inevitable hording issues it will bring from where to store all these too😆. Good video as always, hope you have a blessed and safe look alive, it's 2025.

    Another great video, informative and well done as ever 🤜🤛
    What’s your thoughts on the best option for playing up to & including PS2? The X5-Pro looks good but I believe the controller set up can be tricky?? Is it worth the £££ you think?

    • @VintageSG
      @VintageSG 6 днів тому

      I have a mini PC from Aliexpress with a Celeron N4100 that runs most PS2 titles seamlessly. The video is fine, but there is audio stuttering sometimes. The higher spec Celerons should perform better. I've read and watched reviews of the N100 + N200 CPU equipped models and they do seem rather better on the PS2 sounds.
      What does perform better though is an Intel NUC with an i5 CPU. Not spendy to begin with. Add an Ali special 512 GB or 1TB mSATA and 8 or 16 GB memory and you have a small footprint machine that'll run batocera and kodi seamlessly.
      It's worth buying the Kinhank 512GB USB drive just for the curated roms collection. Install the batocera image onto the mSATA, install it into the NUC and boot it up. Let it expand the partition, connect the Kinhank drive, launch the console and copy the roms + bios folders across and voila!
      My NUC runs the PS2 stuff to perfection. £20 from ebay ( no drive or wifi card ) then £12 for 16GB, £3.50 for a dual-band wifi+bluetooth and ~£25 for a 512GB mSATA from Ali.
      I'm not bothered about the 8bit computer stuff, nor most of the Amiga + ST so 512GB is sufficient.
      If you do buy one of the Kinhank USB drives, image it. The drives are often rather old. Copying it to an SSD id worthwhile, then keep the drive as a backup.
      Hope that helps.

  • @KevinJones-bt7ib
    @KevinJones-bt7ib 6 днів тому +1

    The superconsole x is great for the retro games i like playing, i bought a mini pc and a batocera kinhank hdd drive, im a bit gutted though only runs up to n64 ok, and some games aint great, i need to find away i can add it to my own sdd drive if anyoneknows how to? Its made so it only boots up when plugged in to youre pc when you power up, i also had to change the settingsin bios mode to make it work, also any idea how i can make it run better on game cube, ps 2 etc. i think the pc is powefull enough to do so, withit being on my sdd drive and a few tweaks i imagine should work great, but easier said than done coz i dont know what im doing😂😂😂

    Android Box
    CPU : RealTek RTD1319
    GPU : ARM G31 MP2
    RAM: 2GB DDR4 @2400MHz
