  • This great song was recorded by Buddy Holly and his band in July 1957. It was included on his second album, 'Buddy Holly'.
The authorship is credited to Joe B Mauldin, Niki Sullivan, and Norman Petty (Buddy's bass player, his sometime rhythm guitarist, and his manager/producer). However, Jerry Allison, Buddy's drummer, has insisted that most of the song was written by Buddy himself, with Jerry contributing the bridge section.
Blondie covered 'I'm Gonna Love You Too' on their classic, 1978 album, 'Parallel Lines'. Although they released the song to promote the album, it failed to chart in the US and UK (of course, subsequent singles taken from the album were massive hits).

Oh wow I first heard this from the pop group Blondie. I never knew it was a Buddy Holly song, cool! 😎

Yes. I remember when Blondie covered it on their Parallel Lines album back in the late 1970s. It was nice to see a punk/new wave band acknowledging Buddy's influence on the music of the day. They changed the chords a little, but that's allowed. 😄

I'm glad to hear that you're busy with music. I got a little too busy myself recently and decided to put everything on hold for a while. When my diary gets too full I start to feel stressed and anxious. At the moment I'm enjoying playing at the occasional open mic and weekly, acoustic 'sing-arounds' at a nearby pub. And uploading videos to my UA-cam channels, of course. 😊

Yes, a lot of people play this one like you describe, and it sounds really good that way, but if you listen carefully to Buddy's original record, he plays the chords like this. I was just being true to the original.
