It wasn’t just the paper that was expensive, but postage was expensive as well and an envelope, being seen as a second sheet of paper, often doubled the postage cost.
I've always loved the folding of a letter so an envelope is not needed. Wax sealing was popular when I was a girl (late 1960's) & I started a fire in my bedroom trash can with a match!😂🤣
Almost perfect. For the first letter, you can easily skip the first fold where you fold the paper in half. By not folding the paper in half and just eyeballing the middle, the letter still works perfectly without having a crease down the center where I would write the address. It looks neater too.
This is exactly the video I was hoping to find. For my loved one, I found a lovely wooden box I was hoping to fill with handwritten letters, and I found out that the box is a centimeter too small to fit any of the envelopes that came with this nice paper I got some time ago. This video is going to be a wonderful solution for this!
I have my dad's love letters he wrote to my mom while he was serving in the war back in 1939 (WW2) that I would like to scan onto vintage paper and do this with.. I think it would go well with some of my parent's things I have out in our home. Ty for the clear instructions!
Oh my goodness. I too am a HUGE Jane Austen fan. Love all things Jane including these envelopes. I love sealing with a wax seal and I even have one seal that says Merry Christmas. A nice little vintage find at an antique market several years ago. Can't wait to use the envelope technique this holiday season. Thanks again for another wonderful tutorial!!
A lovely tutorial, thank you! A useful tip I have used over the years is to have a very thin smear of sunflower oil on the metal seal to prevent it sticking, especially to the new 'plasticy' sealing waxes.
There is sticker paper sheets for printers that you can print the seals on and you won't have to use glue. It just sticks on. The sticker won't jam up the modern postal machines.
When I was in high school. I used to write letters to friends, and fold the paper this way and use stickers to close the paper. I wished in the 1980s to 1992 I wish they had washi tape.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, Tinne! I have tried them all, not sure which is my favourite. I've just finished a vintage journal and added a few of these, they are so much more fun than the regular way of folding. I don't have wax or a seal, but that's okay because this way they can still be used to write in. I have included a link to this video in the description box of my video and gave you credit. Thanks again, Debbie :)
Growing Older With Jane Austen is a fascinating read, allowing a great parade of characters to take their turn centre-stage. A full review can be found at: www.janeausten.co.uk/growing-older-with-jane-austen-by-maggie-lane-a-review/
I had the exact same problem when I was using standard ink jet paper. I found some very cheap specialty paper on Amazon that is very heavy and sturdy, and holds up to seal breaking.
I tried to use these methods on a letter with two pages, and it was a little bulky and uneven. Is there a method that is best for multi page letters or?

That looks much more meaningful than putting the letter in an actual envelope!
I used this technique today for my pen pal and I loved it, thank you! The 3rd option looks so cute!

Seems like quite an eventful day 😂
We're you scolded for it?

Very true! Thanks!

I'm glad!
Thanks for sharing the 3 ways of folding a letter in itself to be an envelope. The waxed seal is a great touch!
Your first method is the best I've seen so far from several videos by others.
I loved your video! It would be great to have a tutorial for multiple-page letters
came for the folding
stayed for the asmr
Really? What make you feel that way?
@@vectoriadesigns probably the paper sounds and relaxed voice.

Thank you for this, this makes sealing a lot easier!
Saved so I can practice folding and not forget, thanks for sharing.

Well, it's the first time someone called one of our video's "calming", thank you ^_^
Very quick and helpful! Thank you!!
I love the seal. It makes the letter special, secretive, what is being sealed? Love the mystery. 😊😂🌹
G'day Tinne, just found this tutorial and being a Jane Austen tragic I love the look of the envelopes with their seals. Thank you and cheers. :)

Love the seal 🦭 wax☺️
My sister has that, but I use what I got, stickers👻🥸🥰

Hello. What is the paper that you use? The link given wouldn't work.
I'm terribly obsessed with Jane Austen as well! These foldings are lovely. I'm going to have to try them out. :)
Enjoy, Natalia!
Not it inglish

Thank you Tinne. They will be tried by me for sure.
How do you open this letter without damaging the letter?
Yeah then it looks like you made an effect👍💜
These are so cute, thank you for the tutorial x
Thank great video and ideas
First video I've seen from you and I have to say you are awesome!
Awww, you're making me blush ^_^
Thank you!!
I usually use the “fern fold”. Almost the same.
Very cool! I love your presentation!
How do I open that seal without tearing the letter...??
My wife calls me Mr. Darcy all the time... lol
how do you deal with the seal tearing from the paper? Like, not breaking , but destroying the paper instead.
Hegedus Ivan Perhaps you can heat up (hair dryer) the wax seal so it’ll loosen up and you can open the letter without tearing the paper.
I had the exact same problem when I was using standard ink jet paper. I found some very cheap specialty paper on Amazon that is very heavy and sturdy, and holds up to seal breaking.
Love it.
I always worry if i fold my letters like this and send it , it would get damaged.
what paper size are u using here?
But sir, would you mind telling how this work..?
I mean where can I write ,etc.
You write the letter on the paper, then fold it inwards to hide your writing. Then put address and stamp on the front....not the wax seal side!
And she's a lady, not a sir! 😘
Good narration...
4:27 giving a letter is playing with fire 🥲
Thanks for this great tip.
You are a goddess! Thank you so much. I want to try and sell crafts at fairs since I just love the hobby as a pastime.
what dimensions should the paper be?
I used about 8 1/4 inch x 11 inch papers, that's 28.7 x 21.2 cm
Love this video!! very helpful!! i was wondering what kind of paper you used it seems different than other kinds of paper
If I had to wager a guess, I think she's using A4 paper which is used in Britain and Europe. It's meteric and you can probably order it from Amazon.
me gusto

Therese Tormey yes you tie them with a sring then you put on the was. 👍
Love this, tfs
Fabulous tfs... 😊
I love the first one but I worry when I write to people they’ll rip it thinking it’s an envelope haha. Think I’m going to try number two
Jamie Watchorn how Did it go?
TFS. Lovely ☺
Love this, would it be ok to post?
Yes, go ahead!
Nice 2:04
Nifty neat!
