I've been trying to find a quality live performance of this song ever since I first heard the studio version. And I'm glad to say the search has finally concluded. I have ABSOLUTELY no idea why the BHS video is more recommended/popular than this one, as this video is both much better in terms of audio quality, and also seems to be a better performance by VS (please take that with a grain of salt). Thank you for uploading this.
Hi sjs2657g, my Dad is a member of the Gentlemen of Sound chorus and he was in rehab after a fall and could not be at the show so I recorded the show for him. I normally would not let such bad video production out for the world to see but it was just for my Dad. I recorded the audio on a Mac mini with Digital Performer and a MOTU 2408 MK3 interface. I mixed the audio in Digital Performer then imported that stereo audio into Final Cut Pro X where I synced it with the video. Thanks for watching!
Cameras were both Canon HFS11. I did not do any color correction in the interest of time. I did the sound for this show and also record the Ambassadors of Harmony which is the World Champ chorus these guys are members of. The microphone is stereo and is a Schoeps CMXY-4V. Reverb is a real old Lexicon 200 (my favorite).
I wrote this out from listening but I don't think there are any mistakes. Towards the end I couldn't make out a couple of things though, which are clearly marked. Thumbs up if this was useful! As-Salaam and good day to you! Do you want to hear the story of Aladdin and his lamp? A desert tale of a young boy, a princess he loves, and a genie who makes all his wishes come true. Oh I come from a land, from a faraway place Where the caravan camels roam Where it's flat and immense And the heat is intense It's barbaric! But hey, it's home. When the wind's from the east And the sun's from the west And the sand in the glass is right Come on down, stop on by Hop a carpet and fly To another Arabian night Arabian nights Like Arabian days More often than not are hotter than hot In a lot of good ways Arabian nights 'Neath Arabian moons (so bright the desert moons) A fool off his guard could fall and fall hard Out there on the dunes So, gotta keep, One jump ahead of the breadline One swing ahead of the sword I steal only what I can't afford (That's Everything!) One jump ahead of the lawmen That's all, and that's no joke These guys don't appreciate I'm broke (That boy is such a lousy) Riffraff! Street rat! Scoundrel! Take that! Just a little snack, guys Rip him open, take it back, guys Gotta steal to eat, gotta eat to live Otherwise we'd get along, wow wow wow! Wa-ha-ha... Well Ali Baba had them forty thieves Scheherezad-ie had a thousand tales But master you in luck 'cause up your sleeves You got a brand of magic never fails You got some power in your corner now Some heavy ammunition in your camp You got some punch, pizzazz, yahoo and how Well all you gotta do is rub that lamp And I'll say Mister Aladdin, sir What will your pleasure be? Let me take your order, Jot it down You ain't never had a friend like me (oh yeah) Mister Aladdin, sir, have a wish or two or three I'm on the job, you big nabob You ain't never had a friend, never had a friend You ain't never had a friend, never had a friend You ain't never had a friend like me (oh my wa-ha-ha, no not a friend like me) Now, Make way for Prince Ali Say hey, here he comes! Ring bells! Bang the drums! Are you gonna love this guy! Prince Ali! Fabulous he! Ali Ababwa Genuflect, show some respect Down on one knee! Now, try your best to stay calm Brush up your sunday salaam Then come and meet his spectacular coterie Prince Ali! Amorous he! Ali Ababwa Heard your princess was a sight lovely to see And that, good people, is why he got dolled up and dropped by With sixty elephants, llamas galore With his bears and lions A brass band and more With his forty fakirs, his cooks, his bakers His birds that warble on key Make way for Prince Ali! - We're half way done - Woooooow, waaaaa, oooo. I can show you the world Shining, shimmering splendid Tell me, princess, now when did You last let your heart decide? Oh, I can open your eyes Take you wonder by wonder Over sideways and under On a magic carpet ride A whole new world A new fantastic point of view No one to tell us no Or where to go Or say we're only dreaming A whole new world A dazzling place I never knew But when I'm way up here It's crystal clear That now I'm in a whole new world with you A whole new world (A whole new world) That's where we'll be (That's where we'll be) A thrilling chase A wondrous place For you and me (I can show you those) unbelievable sights! Arabian nights, Like Arabian days Much more often than not are hotter than hot In a lot of good ways (?such days and nights?) Arabian nights, 'Neath Arabian moons (the shining desert moon) A fool off his guard could fall and fall hard Out there on the dunes (such days) So hot in many ways Unspeakable sounds (unspeakable sounds) Arabian nights and sights Stars so bright (under those) Wonderous Arabian Nights!
Nice Video. Was the audio recorded with the camera, external recorder, or off the soundboard? I see there were two cameras being used to record this, were they different models? Did you post-process the video in a program?
what an arrangement ! what a performance ! so glad to be able to enjoy it. thanks for sharing !!!
they are super great for sure! THANKS
I like this version much better than the one that comes up earlier in the search results -- same performance, but this one is better quality.
Same. How have I not seen this before now?! Been watching the other LQ one a lot!

I wish the purple-ish color lights weren't so vivid but thank you for your kind compliments :)

Oh I come from a land, from a faraway place
Where the caravan camels roam
Where it's flat and immense
And the heat is intense
It's barbaric! But hey, it's home.
When the wind's from the east
And the sun's from the west
And the sand in the glass is right
Come on down, stop on by
Hop a carpet and fly
To another Arabian night
Arabian nights
Like Arabian days
More often than not are hotter than hot
In a lot of good ways
Arabian nights
'Neath Arabian moons (so bright the desert moons)
A fool off his guard could fall and fall hard
Out there on the dunes
So, gotta keep,
One jump ahead of the breadline
One swing ahead of the sword
I steal only what I can't afford (That's Everything!)
One jump ahead of the lawmen
That's all, and that's no joke
These guys don't appreciate I'm broke (That boy is such a lousy)
Riffraff! Street rat! Scoundrel! Take that!
Just a little snack, guys
Rip him open, take it back, guys
Gotta steal to eat, gotta eat to live
Otherwise we'd get along, wow wow wow! Wa-ha-ha...

Brush up your sunday salaam
Then come and meet his spectacular coterie

Amorous he! Ali Ababwa

Woooooow, waaaaa, oooo.
I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?
Oh, I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
A whole new world (A whole new world)
That's where we'll be (That's where we'll be)
