- The 5-2, #22 Auburn Tigers traveled to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, AL to face the 7-0, #1 Alabama Crimson Tide in the 85th Iron Bowl. Alabama coach Nick Saban tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week, forcing offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian to assume the role of acting head coach for this game.
Since the Iron Bowl was renewed in 1948, Alabama and Auburn have had 23 different head coaches (including interims). Only six coaches have won the Iron Bowl in their first attempt - Red Drew in 1948, Gene Stallings in 1990, Terry Bowden in 1993, Dennis Franchione in 2001, Gus Malzahn in 2013, and now Steve Sarkisian in 2020. I think it's pretty debatable whether Sarkisian really counts though.
Seeing Gus and Chad get throttled does the heart good.
Arkansas rightfully beat them as well. That was a straight up robbery - I can't remember the last time a call in a game not involving Bama made me so mad.

Auburn has been Alabama's final regular season opponent every year since 1948 with only six exceptions. The exceptions are: 1963 (final game at Miami), 1988 (final game at Texas A&M), 2001 (final game vs Southern Miss), 2002 and 2003 (final game at Hawaii), and 2020 (final game at Arkansas).

Turns out this was Gus Malzhan's last Iron Bowl he coached in since he was fired on Sunday a few weeks later.

I could not sleep the night before. This game always makes me nervous but it made me more so this year. This team feels special and Auburn would be the team to ruin things; like they normally do, and I was so damn worried that they'd find a way to screw things up. Man did I sleep good last night after this. A bright spot in a very crappy year for sure.
I have a formula for predicting the Iron Bowl based on a historical analysis of how the series has gone. I've gone into a lot of specific detail on this elsewhere, but I'll keep it brief here: if Auburn is having a good season, they will win; if Auburn has had a bad season, Alabama will win, usually by a wide margin. I have no documentation to prove this, but using my "formula" I predicted a 42-10 Alabama victory to friends and family right before kickoff. I just wish I had put money down on it.

@@KetchupBlogs year, but there's always flukey shit happening there too. Just look at all the defensive injuries in both 2017 and 2019, and even Tua goes down. In 2013 you had the stupid kick 6.....so there is always some weird shit going on when we play them at home
Outside of Jordan Hare, Auburn has no chance. The closest they have kept it in Bryant Denny since 2012 was 11 points. And since then, they haven’t been within two possessions. It must be the heavy cow shit aroma that messes with our players down there
As much as I'd like to agree, I have to point out that Bama has a losing all-time record against Auburn in Tuscaloosa at 6-7. Bama historically has played poorly in this game everywhere but Legion Field. Even there they had some insane misfortune against Auburn, like Punt Bama Punt in 1972 and all the turnovers in Bryant's final Iron Bowl in 1982. Even outside of the Iron Bowl, I think Auburn has more lucky moments than any other team. Bama has historically been lucky on many occasions with other teams losing to get them into the national title, but they pretty seldom have lucky fluke plays on the field.

honestly folks, with the playoffs now and the changes that have happened in college football, I could really care less if my Bama guys EVER play Auburn again. this game just doesn't matter anymore. I could care less about "rivalry" weekend, as long as Bama is in the playoffs.
Rewatching this in 2021, reminds me of how great of an OC sark is and how terrible of an OC Bill O’Brien is
these last ten years have been utter hell for auburn and while alabama got to sit on the throne like gods and thats not fair. lets go back to the 2010 college football season. well cam newton and company were running the table for auburn and well that years ironbowl came and at the halftime alabama had a 20 point something lead and after halftime cam newton led a comeback,a camback if you will. well auburn wins over alabama 28 to 27 and i go to bed that night and i have the most awesomest dream ever that the year was 2020 and alabama had not beat auburn since 2010 and alabama loses the 2020 ironbowl and then the next year 2021 the state of alabama took a vote and auburn wins the vote and all of the alabama fans were forced to say war eagle and anything alabama crimson tide related buried,burned and forgotten and tuscaloosca became a north auburn and auburn became a south auburn and the ironbowl ceased to exist and we even changed the name of the state of alabama to the state of auburn and we even changed the state flag from the red x on white background to the orange and blue a.u logo and none of you alabama fans couldn't stop it from happening or so i thought. because the vey next morning i wake up from my most awesomest dream ever to the worst possible news ever that a evil demon from hell basically tuscaloosca named harvey updyke had poisoned toomers corner and that was the day that my dream died and the next thing i know auburn is suffering in the firey pits of hell and alabama gets to sit on the throne like gods and that not fair. this is all harvey updykes fault for the downfall of the auburn tigers and i will never forgive him. its gotten so bad for me that i have been throwing things at may wall and turning my table over and i can't take it anymore,you see the alabam crimson tide cheated and were paid to cheat and so were the refs because cheaters never win and its all harvey updykes fault. wtf wtf wtf wtf what did auburn ever do to deserve this punishment? tell me? oh god why?

Looking back at this season… M. Moore def played his best season as a freshman, Billingsly was genuinely a selfish turd and I’m glad Latu outworked him and became the better TE, and losing Josh Jobe in the ‘21 SECCG (along with Metchie) rlly screwed us even more in that NC game, Javon Baker could’ve been a hero in ‘21…..oh, and Battle/Hellams were basically the same safeties their entire career, talent wise I mean. Should’ve played Branch at Hellams spot.

You know what it sucks to share a state that also has a football university that is in your own conference and that hates you so much. As a Alabama fan I feel that. Sure that this is one of the most important rivalries of all time but I feel that's embrassing. I got a solution to fix this. 1st just look at Ohio St and Cincinatti. There both good football programs but here's the thing. The people in Ohio hate Cincinatti expect for the city. Cincinatti had a chance to expand its influence across Ohio but got rejcected in the Big 10. 2nd you saw how Georgia Tech lefted the SEC and later georgia would be the only dominant team in the state. So you if you mix these 2 things up you will get a result that's very good and here are some things to weaken auburn and turn the fans into Alabama ones forever. 1: we need to kick Auburn out of the SEC 2: we need to spread propaganda across the state that Auburn is useless. 3: cancel the Rival game between Alabama and Auburn sure this is a important game but its for the greater good for Alabama. 4: weaken Auburn even more by also canceling other rivalries games. With all of this we can turn Alabama to a really powerful state in football historically like Ohio St and USC. Also Alabama can infulence the SEC even more like how Clemson is doing to the ACC. with Auburn out of the way THIS STATE WILL BE BETTER THEN BEFORE NO MORE EMBRASSING IRON BOWLS NO MORE.EMBRASSING LOSSESS FOREVER.
