You can open the cheat file with Notepad and remove the Robotnik SatAM sprite cheat to use the English translation while keeping the original Eggman sprite in the game. They're both separate cheats in one file. MAME should have the option to turn on or off a cheat code, but most of the time, It's always turned on, so deleting the cheat code inside the file should do the trick. @@robbiewalker2831

This game ABSOLUTELY deserves an Arcade1up release for sure, especially with the ability to swap between Eggman’s classic and SATAM designs, along with Sonic the Fighters and the Mega Play versions of Sonic 1 & 2 being added so it’s not just one game
It's such a shame this game didn't get an international release. If they released this with English voice acting, I could see this being a big hit. I mean, sure, it's not a masterpiece, but if I was a kid in the 90s and saw this, I definitely would have poured some quarters into it.

Interesting that the English script the localization team made didn't mention the tower in text when it was self-destructing - maybe the Robotnik dialogue when you encounter him in the tower was meant to be simpler in the World and USA releases?

This hack of SegaSonic The Hedgehog is accurate to what would happen if it were Westernized when it comes to localization. At least most Sega games change the cover art and not sprites and assets from the game.
The sprites of the SatAM Robotnik were unused in the final version of SegaSonic The Hedgehog and a version of them but with Eggman instead of Robotnim were used in the final game
I remember this game and I played this on MAME but little fact about this. Not only it didn't get a international release but they were planning to put this game on Sonic Gem Collection which sadly due to the controls which couldn't fix because the game itself only use that track ball thing and couldn't emulate the controls on consoles. It sucks but they could've tried and one game has that track ball controls and fixed like Marble Madness on Midway Arcade Treasures 1.

Im not a Sonic fan but this game looks good. Not just for it's time, it almost looks like a modern 2D game. Im not really seeing any particularly unique effects, but the effects that are shown are pulled off very well. In particular, the animation is VERY smooth, which enhances the 3D look. A lot of the effects would be a lot less impressive with fewer frames of animation. Like the bridge falling when you run across - on a home console of the time you would never see so many frames to that animation, and the logs would stand out as flat sprites. But they animate so smoothly here as to convincingly portray depth and almost look like actual 3D objects. I am impressed.

I highly agree, the fact that this moment at 16:40 is meant for the original (Classic) Eggman video game design, it doesn’t fit with SatAM Robotnik since that version is more menacing and more darker than original video game iteration.

I remember, ages ago, finding instructions for mame to set up the game controls so it would be playable using a joystick, it was janky but serviceable, but I can't find those instructions again, mh.
It would have to be remade from the ground up. Same goes for Knuckles’ Chaotix. It was supposed to be in Sonic Mega Collection & Gems Collection, but both games were difficult to emulate properly

If you want to play this game on an emulator try to play it with analog controller but the gameplay is still difficult to play on a controller too cause sonic run extremely fast and hard to control

In this version, it needs TAILS & KNUCKLES as replacements only for America if it came out in 1994 after JP from 1992
