I stayed at the Q4 hostel, right underneath all of this! As a train fanatic from Boston it was quite the pleasure to wake up to this early in the morning train after train! No really! Smile to my face
I stayed there as well with my class when we visited the US for a week from Austria. Having trains right outside was really cool but it was really loud though, making it hard to sleep.
So glad you did this! 1st Many just do not believe me about double elevated tracks. They think it's just not possible. 2nd I'm building a elevated track in N scale and needed pictures and video to model off of. Thanks again!
3:56 looks a little weird with a 7 train which can be R188 or R142 and we can't tell the difference but we can very well tell the difference between R188 and R160. But the view at 2:09 totally makes up for it. So good job!
The bit of structure shown at 2:35 is an indication of the original size of this station, which was twice as large as it now is, with a far more complex arrangement of track and platforms. The Second Avenue El had a branch from Manhattan that came over t he Queensborough Bridge in the background, and the BMT used elevated cars on both the Astoria and Flushing lines, which were jointly operated by both divisions. (IRT cars are basically the same dimensions as the elevated cars in use from the 1880s on.) The BMT subway line from Manhattan terminated here then. There was a tail track along the Flushing line allowing its trains (which at ten feet were too wide for the IRT lines and most elevated structures) to return to the BMT's Broadway line in Manhattan. The Second Avenue El was abandoned in 1940, and the Queensborough Plaza station later reduced in size and reconfigured to its present state, with only BMT trains serving Astoria from the northside platforms, and the only the IRT running to Flushing trains using the southside on both levels, ending the joint service on both branches.
Thanks for clarifying that. I was riding the N train the other day and I was looking out the window when I saw that bit of elevated track shown at 2:35 that looked to have been truncated. Now I know that it was truncated. Too bad they cut it off, even though its still a pretty elaborate line, but it must have been so much more impressive.
Yes it was but it was closed in 1942 (the section below 59th St.) so after that its former platforms were unused which allowed the 1949 reconfiguration to take place.
You are correct. The BMT half of the complex was closed in 1949 and demolished around 1962-63. What is in service now was formerly the IRT section. The platforms the N and W trains use now were once used by Second Avenue Elevated trains which used the upper level of the bridge. The curve used to enter the station by Flushing bound 7 trains goes around a building that was once used by Eagle Electric (now Cooper). There was a billboard sign on it saying "Eagle Electric - Perfection is no accident".
Am I weird for being obsessed with this place and manhattan... like the idea of living in a city that never sleeps... where you can talk to people who are genuinly interested in your story.. is quite amazing. always meet greet people over there.
You can make out the old Silvercup Bread sign which has been an Icon for decades. Their is no free transfer from the Queensboro Plaza #7 to the below ground E&F line, that Transfer is at 74th st and Roosevelt Ave. Jackson Heights stations.
Those ridiculously high els in all their Americana made me GAWK when I happened to step up out of the subway there on an adventurous adolescent summertime weekend there decades ago.
It is the only station that has a cross platform transfer from the A division (IRT) to the B division (IND/BMT). At one time the platforms the N/W uses were used by Second Avenue elevated trains which used the Queensboro Bridge to reach Manhattan. That service ended in 1942 and the BMT was extended through the station to Astoria and the IRT directly to Flushing in 1949. The unused north (BMT) half of the station was torn down. The double crossover at the east end of the upper level is the only place trains can get on or off the 7 line and connect with the rest of the system. It is a long and difficult trip to get 7 trains to and from 207th or Coney Island shops.
MY GOD MY GOD the memories . We ALL have stories of the Flushing Line and the Astoria line. ESPECIALLY if you went to LIC HS and lived in LIC. Do we get a YEAH OH ! here? SILVERCUP oh that bread !
I never been to NEW YORK, but one of the best trains for me is R142a, Irt 29 Irt 22 and the others that look almost as these that i put in the cooments. Also i have World of subways 4 and its amazing although i wish that they added another line and another train then the game would bee 10/10. For now it s 9/10.
Love how the IRT meet up with the BMT in the same sort of platform. Great job.
2:09 what a view... Loved this video. Its a shame NYC cant afford to keep these awesome structures in good repair
9:10 Crikey...the express didn’t wait. That’s cold!!!!
I stayed at the Q4 hostel, right underneath all of this! As a train fanatic from Boston it was quite the pleasure to wake up to this early in the morning train after train! No really! Smile to my face
Shame Boston got rid of their els. The one over Boston Garden was awesome.
We totally need them back!!! Not going to happen though....
The noise just doesn't end...

I stayed there too!
4:00 Beautiful siemens sound.

Also two-level elevated tracks at Coney Island.
5:35 R188 and R160B propulsion. It makes it a R180A propulsion
Very interesting station!! Been through it many times on the 7 Flushing line.
Also been passed the Queensboro Plaza station on the E line!😀😀
Going on the N/W curve be like..
Current objective: survive
Really cool to see those trains on those bridges. Cool structures... :)
Absolutely love this! Your work is extremely professional. Think im gonna watch every video of yours :)
Glad you love my videos. I'm sure there are things left for me to improve upon. :-)
Yes it is

Thanks for that bit of information. I had no idea that the long gone 2nd Avenue El was attached to Queensboro Plaza!

I love U.S. railroad infrastructure! Very impressive.

Great Job ! Wonderful station above ground.

awesome footage! keep it up
Thank you for showing the elevated trains!
bro when you comments December 26!!December 25 was from yesterday
No
For some reason, when I went to 111th St (IRT) 7, via the IND Queens Boulevard line, E trains terminated at 179th Street.
P.S. All train service on the IND 8th Avenue line was on the local track till Columbus Circle.
Sometimes they did but most ended at Parsons-Archer.
Yes
I'm surprised how clean NY Subway is, escpecially compared to the 80s. *thumbs up*
The sheer amount of above ground track infrastructure in this general area is astounding.
Not often, if at all, do you see an IRT (7) share a platform with a BMT (N)
Sad that the MTA Moved all the R160's from the N to the E, F, and R lines for CBTC on Queens Plaza.
Trains make me like it's a best system in New York!
Perfect scene of train on top of a train. 1:07
Nice work! Thumbs up 👍 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 😊
Nice.
Cool
Those ridiculously high els in all their Americana made me GAWK when I happened to step up out of the subway there on an adventurous adolescent summertime weekend there decades ago.
great video love the 7 train
This is a Main Street bound 7 local train the next and last stop is Main Street
7:59 I wonder if that phone is still there & operating. If it is, it sure isn't sanitary. Use with caution.
Great view of the trains & stations.
Ahh... Memories...
Arguably the best transfer in the city is the 7 to N/W at Queensboro plaza

I love Re New York city❤❤😘😘🇺🇲🇺🇲🇮🇳🇮🇳
I cant hear the curve on th N and Q track beacuse the 7 train is faster than the N and Q!
My family lived in the Queens Plaza section of Long Island City from the 30s until the 80s. Then I moved to the Bronx. What a mistake !!!!!
How I LOVE this city!!!
Best video of Queensboro Plaza I've seen. Great shots.
10:01 the r46
I'm confused, If the second avenue el came across the 59th Street Bridge, then what other trains used the lower tracks 🤔⁉️
There should be a transfer between the two
3:33 7 Local, and the next stop is Woodside? Are the announcements messed up?
I believe at the time of filming there was construction and all 7 trains ran express to Woodside and local beyond there.
+Luftschlange oh, OK. thanks!
+Luftschlange The W train Return on November 7 2016
+Luftschlange whoa...😐😐😐

Could you do one of these videos at Court Square on the (7), (E), (G) and (M) trains?

I'm going to Times Square like next week, which train do u recommend using the 7 or the N train?
Depends where you're coming from. if you like say Astoria Take the N if You are lets say corona or flushing(depends where) Then the 7
An Alien well what I do is first take the F train from 179st. than either transfer from Queensboro plaza or Jackson heights so, maybe the 7 train....
