I’ll never forgot my first run through Asphodel and how much I got my mythical ass kicked. Those fire pits are no joke and was a perfect level to refine your builds for better play throughs. Bone Hydra is still my favorite boss to encounter.
It's a pain in the ass the first time, but rewardingly difficult in later runs
Lernie ain’t much of a threat
Facts Hydra is one of the funnest, Meg is pretty easy once you know how to evade her attacks but the Hydra is just so awesome in both design and implementation

Asphodel being Eurydice's place of residence makes those final instrumental notes of Lament of Orpheus at the tail end of this track so incredibly powerful. Absolutely love that.
Ooh boy, this is exactly the music you’d hear in your head while trodding through the realm of darkness and bloody rivers armed with nothing but determination, immortality and a sword.

@Julo Micha I think it's more-so the fact that managing two or more heavy enemies is really hard to do in this game when they're all quickly ganging up on you, which is why you wanna spec for AoE damage whenever you can.
The Bone Hydra went from insurmountable, to pedestrian, to one of the highlights of any given run for me specifically because Zagreus renamed it on a whim and the game itself decided to indulge him.

So pretty much the middle class
@@jonasalmstrom4986 pretty much
Wealth has nothing to do with moral arbitration. Sisyphus was a king in life but was still condemned to Tartarus.
@@matthewmendez3632 well the reason Sisyphus was sent to Tartarus was because he defied the gods and cheated Death, even chaining him up to escape him
@@Brian-tn4cd Yes, he was judged for defying the gods (moral arbitration) not for his wealth, so Asphodel is not analogous to the middle class as Jonas said
The subtle nods to Lament of Orpheus strewn throughout this track amaze me every time I hear them. Absolutely brilliant composition here.
Asphodel, what was once a beautiful, lush region, is now a molten hellscape... probably because Hades felt that he was being too generous with letting the average shade exist in peace and harmony outside of Elysium.
He forgot to hire a plumber
@@parkerbeck2335Probably actually.
That reverb mix on the drums in the beginning just punches a hole in my soul. Just the way I like it.
Very Diablo 2 to me
One of the best tracks in the game for one of the bitchiest areas. The Bone Hydra gives me surprisingly little trouble, but that stupid ass mini boss that turns you to stone then fucking crushes you? Beaten it once and somehow never again.
The Medusa/stone head boss as well as the fucking butterfly ball are the bane of my existence
@@mursin9718 The butterfly is always the reason why I go for boons or hammers that let me annihilate shields
The Medusa head also turns my frame rate to stone.
@@PursuedByAMemory Oh God yes. I beat Hades on my shitty old computer and as soon as I entered Asphodel the game would look like a slideshow presentation until I lowered the resolution. The Medusa head just crushes the framerate as soon as it starts spitting stone lol
omfg god yes, i hate it more than the butterfly ball
I love getting into fights in asphodel just to hear that guitar riff with the rest of harmony.
The depths of those drums and the bass it's so goooooood
Bass
The bass on this track _does things_ to me
I'm late to the party with this as it's not usually my genre but boy did my son open my eyes & ears to this amazing game. Every piece on this soundtrack is absolute fire 🔥 😍
I remember that in my first fight with the Hydra this part (6:13) synchronized with them summoning heads and oh boy it looked and sounded SICK
This game is so freaking awesome! You just gotta love the boss themes.
I can’t believe I forgot how good this music is. Now I gotta play through this fantastic game again.
The beginning of the track with the drums always gives me oldschool diablo vibes. Love it :D
Dude, I love it too. It feels intentional, doesn't it?
This is genius stuff. Darren Korb ascending to new heights. Incredible
Or perhaps descending to new depths, given the circumstance.
Touche xD
I love the use of Lament of Orpheus motifs.
That theremin defines this soundtrack
OH THAT'S WHAT IT'S CALLED. For the life of me, I couldn't remember what the instrument's name was. Thanks for leaving this comment for me to find, bro.
The theremin is such a key part of Hades' soundtrack, it wouldn't be the same without it.
"Well lets see we've done medieval fantasy music, some western inspired stuff, electronic...

This is the first rogue-like game I got (and Supergiant's)... It's so well thought of game and engaging for my type who just now come across this kind of genre. 5:03 Oh hi Doom.
This game is the perfect example of why reactive music in games is a must-have.
Asphodel was a tough place--and still is--without the correct buffs in place. Great game!
which are the correct buffs? I'm struggling to get past the hydra.
@@alexbvv I usually go all in on one single damaging ability (e.g. Artemis' homing cast, or a general 'attack' buff), and then whichever other mob cleaner. (e.g. dash damage) Whenever a Trial of the Gods appears, I will always opt for it if the main damaging ability is sufficient, as well.
To me the hardest is theseus, you can kill hydra easily with burst damages and hangover.but for theseus, you need dash control.

my favorite zone in the game. I love the chamber layouts, artstyle, music, and I love the enemies... I have probably 500 hours in this game and I still find so much enjoyment from this track and taking my time looking at the environment in Asphodel.
This Theme is a Masterpiece! 👏 🔥 Haven't played the game yet. I've owned HADES since Early Access + OST Soundtrack on Steam and also owned the PS5 Physical Special Edition for years now! This weekend I'm starting Hades!!
the pads with the theremin are absolutely otherworldly. this track fucks hard as hell
Big Diablo 2 vibes. Love it.
That's what I thought as well.
The whole game is a "Diablo 2/3 vibe"
This is what Diablo 3 should've sounded like if it had a good OST.
Even with the current Hades 2 soundtrack, this song is still amongst my favorite between the two games. That bass is addicting.
Made it to Asphodel...
(steps in lava for too long)
The intro reminds me of Diablo 1's dungeon! This is my most memorable track alongside with "in the blood"!
7:56 HOLY SHIT that's part of Lament of Orpheus!
Played every supergiant game, every soundtrack bangs. Yall are literally too skilled
5:15 best part
I remember my first run in Asphodel, I got extremely intimidated by the music and proceeded to drown myself in lava
This song probably has the best build up of any song that has ever been written or been dreamt of in the history of human insanity
Ah yes, the Edging Song of the soundtrack. Always gradually building up that pressure, but never letting you truly reach the peak and fall over the precipice. It's delicious, but damn it's unforgiving!
Darren Korb nails that same sort of buildup in this soundtrack that makes Mick Gordon's work on Doom and Killer Instinct so great.
i bought the game early access, totally worth it
My best part start at 7:30, because it makes me feel that I’m struggling
imagine enjoying ur life in asphodel, it's not great but it's definitely better than the suffering of tartarus and erebus and less monotonous than elysi- oop nevermind ur a skeleton now
the Phlegothon will do that to ya

Oh. My. Gosh. I literally started crying listening to this song compared to the Lament of Orpheus. That is so beautiful, horrifying, and powerful all at once that I literally broke down in tears. The sea of lava. The field of punishment. Where Orpheus' muse now resides. Darren Korb, thank you for this masterpiece, and don't ever look back.
When the drums kick in with headphones on, I'm frickin boppin
around 5:30
Thanks for a brand new earworm. I usually hate those but this once I don't actually mind.
What a soundtrack, this my favourite one this!!
Honestly i kinda find the hydra to be easier than meg
yup, well, meg is fine, but her crazy sister that only say "murder" is definetly harder than hydra x)
Yeah by the time I get to the Hydra, I've got enough tools to take him out with relative ease.
My first time getting to Asphodel on run 3, I dashed to the lava on accident in the opening room while talking to someone and when I looked back I didn't see where I was and died. So much for beating Meg that run. But 25 tries later and I beat Hades
this is the main theme of social studdies class.
no single vid with every song clumped together means more tracks to come?
almost certainly, the game is completely missing a 3rd section (elysium, possibly onwards) atm and i assume that will have all new music when it's released.
7:28 when you start to fell like a badass:
I can't tell if the clicking is supposed to be bones chattering or Dudsa struggling to use the stove.
“I have longed to hear the sound of your hiss, Lernie.”
Until You reconstitute again Lernie!
I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or I'm just hearing things.
7:57 - 8:26 sounds like a lament of Orpheus leitmotif. Not the whole song, just a section of it. I dont know the terminology for it but the part of the song that goes "Calm, Seas, winds alee."
Let me know what you think because I feel like this can't be a coincidence since you meet Eurydice in Asphodel.
This is the perfect song to fight a snake-like bone hydra in the fires of the Underworld
Heavy Metal of Hades 🤘
"Lernie, hiss if you think you are going to lose!"
*Hiss*
favorite musical piece of the game for me. its so damn good
This song is really dope! Learnie deserves it.
Man .... those drums .. I thought I was playing Diablo :D
"Go back In the magma and Everything will be fine."
I am playing Hades for the first time ( lovin' the game btw) and I went until I reached the hydra (having already spent my first life) with 4 health I defeated it in my first attempt and went to the last chamber before the elisyus boss (I died for a trap lol)
Even though I got my ass kicked by the Bone Hydra, I loved that I got my ass kicked by the Bone Hydra, first time I saw that projectile volley heading towards me was an experience.
Fucking been playing for the past 2 and a bit hours man. Pretty fucking sweet my dudes
Asphodel had such DOOM vibes, even though the music is more Diablo :)
First time I fought Hydra: "Pff this is too easy!"
Hydra shifts to second... then third phase... "I'm screwed, right?"
Tartarus music: greek Doom
Asphodel music: greek Celeste
If they don't play this at my funeral I'm not going
"Get back into the magma and nobody gets hurt"
The drums at the start remind me so much of Donkey Kong Country's drums. Specifically, Lockjaw's Saga. Not the same melody, but a similar feeling.
Asphodel is so intense!!!!
God fuckin damn this hits so hard. I hope Hades II includes a version of this!!
Do The little licks in the guitar parts sound like chuck schuldiner or am I crazy?
This sounds like early ghost ngl and it's eargasm
We need this in a fighting game.
