I'm from the UK and have had the pleasure of hiking the Smokies, I hiked part of the Appalachian trail and can tell you first hand its spooky, I was aware of the national park missing cases beforehand so when you're actually there it's very hard to forget how easy it is to disappear forever. It's a beautiful place but that being said its definitely the creepiest national park I've hiked!
Been to Great Smoky Mountains National Park twice. Before I head of the Missing 411 phenomenon. I felt strange hiking on the trails as if someone or something was watching me. Beautiful place but very creepy
I've lived here in Pigeon Forge, all my life. I remember a lot of these, it's very easy to get lost if you go off the trails at all. You can lose direction easily. GOD bless all these families, and future visitors.
I understand that feeling you mentioned of being watched. It reminds me of something that happened to me when I was a teenager in my hometown. On the edge of town was a small park in a hollow. It had been closed for years but still had old picnic areas, a small amphitheater and old signs depicting park trails. I used to visit the place out of curiosity, and one thing that stood out was each time I went there the vibe got weirder, as if I was being watched closely and intently by someone or something. And this feeling got stronger during each visit. The final time I was planning to go there, I was half way down the old trail in when it was as though I'd hit a wall. I couldn't go any further and I felt both sick and frightened. It's hard to explain but it's like that 'inner voice' was actually yelling 'GO BACK!!' After I reached the street above the feeling vanished. I haven't been back to that place in all these years.
The Thelma story.... this happened to someone I knew she went ahead of everyone, somehow fell off the trail and wedged herself deep into rocks. She died of brain injury and exposure. The body was very hard to find because of the rocks. There is a rule about splitting up or hiking ahead .... never do it.
I didn't know her body was ever found. I thought that was the woman who was possibly planning to run away from her older, fairly disabled husband who she was largely caring for and after a series of failed marriages. Her behaviour in the days leading up to her vanishing was suspicious and there were cheques cashed on her account the year after but the bank teller couldn't remember the person who'd done it. There was no CCTV in 1981. The local pastor as the charity centre she volunteered at thought she might be having an affair (never proven) and she made phone calls there which she had never done before in all the years she'd worked there. I think she went off to start a new life and her behaviour on the trail was very odd, speeding up and then slowing down several times in an attempt to throw off her companions to make good her exit.
Richard Helliwell you are right. She had talked to a man in a car in the parking lot, then deliberately hiked way ahead of everyone in her party. There were checks written in Georgia from her account. Nowadays, there should be handwriting specialists to know if it was her handwriting or not. We lived in the town where she went missing from and hiked that same trail almost every day. It’s a very family oriented, nice trail. Weird though. I’d like to see those checks be annualized 🙂
@@0518Purple Yes - that would be interesting if they still exist. If she had been abducted I cannot imagine the perpetrator would have run the risk of being identified by cashing her cheques in a bank! I think the handwriting on the cheques was thought to be hers at the time, but it's only what I read. It's another case that David Paulides makes a lot of even though the explanation looks fairly simple.
Yes I agree. What makes it worse is that we do not know the actual numbers of missing people since its not made public unless it hits the news. I would like to know just here in my national forest. (I'm in the mountains weekly and have had some strange experiences. ) I mean it would be nice to know if a serial killer is under the radar or a mountain lion on the rampage or even a possible BF in the forest. The woman lost at G Creek is almost at my backyard. Never found.

@Mr Westie They disappear, only to reappear sometimes miles from where they originally disappeared and they usually are found without shoes. Are nefarious inter-dimensional shape-shifters to blame? If so, are they harvesting people's spirits and or adrenochrome?
People don't understand the wilderness is not like their "safe spaces" they live their lives in. Never go alone, bring extra food and water, all weather gear, a means to get help, and weapons--a good hunting knife at the very least!

I had an experience a few years ago while hiking with my daughter in the Smokies: It was a beautiful day, nothing unusual, then all of a sudden, everything went dead silent, the wind stop blowing, and we both had a very uneasy feeling as if we were being watched or were in danger. This lasted for about 3 or 4 minutes, and then everything went back to normal. The breeze came back and the forest sounds resumed. Later on, I learned that this is a phenomenon that many people have experienced there, and in other places around the country.
Look, in all fairness you startled me too ! So I just froze and didn’t take my eyes off of you ...It was a bit scary ...You were some of the first humans I ever encountered
I've also hiked alot of times here in these mountains and have experienced this same thing. It's very unnerving and makes you feel like you want to take off running , like something is fixing to happen that my freinds is your body telling you something. It's a natural gift that a person has. My advice is this. If you do hike alone kinda stay with others , not up on them , just stay somewhat behind or in front of. Never hike alone.
There are animals that hunt and they can snatch you off of a trail without you making a sound. They will drag you off to have a meal. Scary but true. Allways be aware of your surroundings. Enjoy !!!! Yes !!!! But be very vidualent and never never hike alone.
@@MatanuskaHIGH I have something to comment on. I to experienced that same thing here while back. Kinda makes you feel like turning around in circles trying to watch out for yourself and almost makes you feel very uneasy. I to felt like something was stalking me. I was hiking alone stupid me. Then everything went back to normal. That is your body telling you something could happen here. Panic kinda sits in. But I ended up being ok. But I haven't been back on that certain trail either.
I agree. David has been doing this a long time and like the first missing person in this video I believe there is more reasons he thinks they fit the profile for missing 411. He gets all the details and reports and talks to the families and people they were with.

I live in the Blue Ridge mountains..and am very close to the smokies..nice to hear some cases from "my neck of the woods " I am in the woods almost daily,and knowledge of missing 411 has definitely changed my behavior while in the forest...
My question is....why the hell are groups breaking up when they go to these locations? Is it a competition to see who can hike the fastest? My personal opinion...I think that Jeepers Creepers thing is really flying around hunting and stalking people. These movies are telling us things but are we paying attention. The Hills have eyes...😳😳
in some cases they don't even break up. sometimes, one just ends up walking behind the others, out of their sight, and when they turn around he/she is gone. that seems to be pretty rare but that's been mentioned in some of the cases in the books. also, not to speculate but considering how far out the rest of the details of these cases are, we can't really assume anything. we can't even assume that these people are responsible for their own judgment. if we can imagine some UFO or portal sucking them up through the 4th dimension, or fairies walking out of boulders and kidnapping hikers, then surely we can imagine some kind of entity or force that controls the victims' minds, or lures them away from their group, or somehow diminishes their critical thinking and survival instincts. and if one of those ideas is the case, it wouldn't surprise me much, since it explains a lot of the other phenomena, particularly the weird behavior of many of the victims. ditching clothes, food, and important gear, yet sometimes holding onto relatively useless, heavy stuff. something i've noticed in a LOT of these cases is that if the victim went missing with a camera, the camera is almost never found. in the few cases when it is found, weird pictures are often found on it, when the storage isn't permanently damaged. but in most cases the camera simply remains missing forever, even when other discarded items are quickly found. so you get the impression that these people almost never discard their cameras, yet somehow manage to throw away their pants, shoes, socks, sleeping bags, food, beacons, etc. all the time. pretty weird behavior, and not consistent with (the unproven hypothesis) paradoxical undressing. often people ditch their clothes even when they go missing in temperate climates. sometimes their pants or shoes are found as little as a few hours after they first went missing. conditions where they couldn't possibly be hypothermic, unless they were suffering some kind of bizarre genetic disorder affecting their thermoregulation/homeostasis.

Back east the Jeepers Creepers are called Hillbillies. Out west they are called Druggies!!! Dangerous and evil, laws rules and regulations do not seem to apply to them. Only to law abiding citizens. Many of these missing people are probably kidnapped raped robbed tortured like a cat with a mouse and then killed. It seems that some of them are later placed in water and/or areas already searched so they can be found. Thus no mass numbers of people probing the area so the low life types are back in business. I think mostly they steal from campsites but if they can get the drop on someone???
Unimaginably awful for the companions in these cases. These, (at the time seemingly small and inconsequential) decisions must haunt people for a rest of their lives. Excellent work yet again - the content is dealt with extremely well considering the upsetting and poignant subject matter.
I think all these people should never split up they should all be together and they should tie ropes to each other and they should stay together no matter what do not go in the woods alone who knows what's in there it could be real life predators in there from another galaxy or another time or another dimension invisible who knows that's in there I don't think it's Bigfoot I think it's a little more worse than that so don't go in alone and go in armed and do not go when it's snowing take quite a few people with you and stay in the wilderness with people and in the car do not split up because it could be Predators out to get anybody today stay safe people peace

I am from western nc, that’s scary, but they are legends about things in our forests here An Tennessee, even in the foot hills as well , there’s a stories all in these mountains of all kinds of creatures even my grandmother told me of some things
martin ali Bigfoot, for one not a nice one it was destructive in our small mountain farm, we found a dog not ours stuffed under the wall of our barn after many hard pulls to get it out it’s head was missing looked torn from body , scared us all, screaming ,foul Oder like, rotten cabbage this went on for a week I’m glad it left, then we heard some people in Tennessee had there hogs massacred it was after our two pigs ,my brother seen it he said I did to ,we were kids I remember running back to house I was scared wouldn’t get near any windows I truly think I blocked it from my memory I just know I hate to be near any window now.
When you look at the incidences of people who have gone missing or have been discovered dead in suspicious circumstances,in similar regions throughout the world,I.e Dyatlov pass,one common thread that binds Dyatlov with some of the US disappearances is the deployment of military units,and not just any units but special forces,Spetsnaz units combed the Dyatlov area and the mountain troop of delta force combed the area where a 5 year old boy went missing,obviously,the military know what is potentially out there,whether it is a military experiment gone drastically wrong or they know that there are cryptids roaming these area,I.e bigfoot and the yeti,who knows,but it's interesting that these military units would be deployed in a very small number of these occurrences.Also,when they were deployed they were very heavily armed and they would have no contact with the other search and rescue teams,for sure,someone in government knows exactly what is going on.
A moose and a gorilla have already tried to kill me. No way in heck I’d go into nature alone. Pretty sure they tried to attack me because they sensed I was a weak link. I had undiagnosed Addison’s disease when this happened. Also, German. I figure that puts a huge target on my back.
Two very territorial animals. You shouldn't have been close enough for an incident to happen. Moose kill more people than any other animal in north America.
Phalanx Both at different zoos. I was standing in front of a floor to ceiling crack in the glass. The gorillas were at least ten feet away. I looked away for a second & one gorilla ran to where I was & smashed on the glass. Pretty sure I peed myself. The moose was grazing. Looked up & saw us behind the BARBED WIRE. He casually strolled over. We were excited & saying how sweet. When he got in front of me he lowered his head & rammed his antlers into the fence. We left fast. I do believe they somehow knew I was ill.🤷♀️
When I was four, a wild coyote tried to attack me in a populated area. There was no reason for the coyote to have even gotten close enough, but it lunged at me. My grandmothers neighbor shot it mid-air. That was a few months before I was diagnosed with hear complications
Not just that, but in the books the people who get lost are getting closer to towns. With some phone calls and CCTV recordings on record! It gets weirder, 100%!

@@Staminist-MMF-80 it has to be a combination of things. My strongest belief ties into the Stranger Things theory. The ones who make it back alive are the lucky ones. For whatever reason they are able to hide until the portal opens back up and they return with no memory of what was on the other side.

I was in the redwoods a few years ago, with my little family and my boyfriend's family, there was nobody else on the trail, and we were walking through the trails for a little while, before we left i really had to go to the bathroom and there was no bathroom. So I went back up into the trail by myself, deep into the redwoods and the really big ferns they have. Anyway, I found a secluded spot, and went to the bathroom. While I was going, I had this strange, creepy feeling of being watched. I looked around and nothing was there. Gave me goosebumps, I hurried up and ran back to my family. Before I got into the car I looked one more time and just had a strange feeling. I didn't know about the missing people in state parks till last year. I would have never went alone if I knew what I knew now. Thank God I didn't disappear. Scares me when I think about it.
CaliLove My sister had the same expierence in Yosemite! In happy isles, and now she won’t go back. Thankful she was with someone, we always try to stay together to avoid ending up in Missing 411 books.

@@lahoku I used to hike alone in the Ocala National Forest as it’s not that remote compared to other places. Then I read “Dark Secrets of the Ocala Forest.” Apparently a lot of shady stuff involving meth in there.
There was a time when my family took me to a forest, I was picking flowers just for fun and exploring. I saw something like 2 big apes or humans from a long distance I didn't know who and what they were, I was curious and wanted to check what are those things?! I tried getting a bit closer and I swear the more I keep walking the more they become so far for me to reach eventho they were standing in the same place. There is a moment I felt weird and disturbed when I felt I'm a bit far from my parents destination that's when I stopped went back, until this day I still remember it and curious about it
That's why everyone should carry a whistle when going out. Whistles are one of the best bang-for-the-buck items you can have with you in an emergency or survival situation.The sound of a whistle will attract rescue personal to your location.
Or screw the national park laws and illegally carry a small pistol. If you need it to scare off a momma bear with cubs like made us abandon our camp there (bad drought yr) or if you get lost screw a ticket you're alive... Otherwise hush and obey the law and I will too
I had participated in 30+ searches in my SAR career(mostly in NYS). For one..people are not prepared properly to hike...they also do not have a means to stay in the woods overnight. Lost persons are usually found well outside the search area. Most of these "disappearances" sound like ill-prepared hikers and/or intentional disappearances. Most people never look behind them when they hike or go off trail...so they have no idea what the return trip looks like. Many people getting lost after stepping 150 feet off the trail (usual rules for "restroom" breaks). They get lost and disoriented and never find the trail. Many folks when lost walk in circles or they follow drainages/creeks. Hypothermia and panic play a big role in why these people are found so far or never found. I find that in many cases rivers that are deemed unpassable or other natural barriers the IC folks use as lines to define search areas are not adequate as an estimate of how far the person could be. Another factor in all this is that people may carry compasses and maps and GPSs, but they do not know how to use them.
Excellent video man I really enjoyed this one growing up every summer we would camp in the smokies I always felt uneasy in them hills it's like it has its own presence like its alive almost even gives me an eerie feeling just thinking about them now. They are beautiful but so creepy at the same time.

@@MissingVoidTV Makes sense. I can't believe Paulides didn't mention him having hypothermia. I recently heard him speaking about that case and didn't give any inclination that could have been a cause of his behavior.
Do remember that there was an account of an endurance trail biker that said he was suddenly overcome by heat and it was put into his head to find water, he even heard water flowing. His companions caught up with him while he was removing and folding his clothes. He suddenly "snapped out of it" a hypnotic state by his account and realized what he was doing. He was not one to stop or even put his foot down when determining to bike a specific trail. His companions were astonished to see that he had stopped at all. I don't necessarily trust paulides but there are accounts that don't fit into the explanation of physicians.
....More than likely Bigfoot, it plays a large roll in disappearances, the head trauma on Brad the kid, probably they stumbled into Bigfoot territory, it's highly territorial, they have been known to throw rocks and dead smallish tree trunks at people. Bigfoot has been reported by just a few people that they are telepathic, more than likely that "endurance trail biker" you mentioned was controlled by a near by Bigfoot. BF is making more appearances as of lately too. We are encroaching into its territory, building houses, roads etc.
I heard that his friend originally saw a large wolf man hybrid about 9 ft tall standing over his friend as he was taking off layers of clothes. But when it saw him it disappeared into the forest at an incredible speed.
Hey Nick have you heard of this story of missing 411 the devils in the details about a football player who was found dead. And before he died he had a conversation with his wife over the phone and told her he was being followed by two strange big men on shore, he was on a river boat.
That is what I was thinking, a portal. To where, or from whom, or why, who knows. Question: could God be gathering people before the end so that they don't have to see the devastation that is coming?

I'm from British Columbia, Vancouver area. Do look into the many disappearances here. Particularly Capillano bridge area. As well the continue of shoes with feet turning up on our shores. Can't figure it out why it happens here.
@MICHELLE Parks well I think that their are a lot of ways the people are missing its just not one way its several. Like for the shoes with bones in them is a serial killer or killers that specifically do that and they might be travelers the go to different parks. Its just really mind boggling. I wonder if this has been happening for a long time or is it a newer phenomenon?
Vancouver/Seattle has a Serial Killer. Guy has killed Dozens on dozens of people. The Foot Killer. They did a documentary on it years sgo. FBI/Mounties think the killer has killed 100+ people.
I always look forward to your videos. It's upsetting how these people just vanish and are never found. I feel for their families and friends. One topic that really interests me is the random stairs in the woods. I would really like to encounter them personally
@24:00 Very much like the Oct 8th 1976 case of Trenny Gibson! I have read all of the Missing 411 books with specific attention to the Great Smokey National Park cases. The incredible thing (other than matching Missing 411 profile points) is that when you put pins (or just labels) on your Google Map, these cases are literally within a two mile radius. I don't want to scare anyone but if you are planning to hike to Clingman's dome, especially between 3-4:30 PM... You should be holding hands with your hiking partners and recording every second of it on your smartphone. You should also have a personal locator beacon on you and you should not wear bright red.
"Maybe" for Some Vanishings, folks have walked right into an invisible doorway to somewhere else-far away? I know people say "portal" but doorway to me feels right. I dunno, the whole thing gives me the creeps and keeps me OUT of National Parks!!
Hey Where Did The Road Go interviewed David Paulides on his book Missing 411 The Devils In the Details. In that interview David told a story about a couple who were hiking and the husband disappeared. During the days of the search a woman was walking along that trail and heard a man's voice yelling out for help. The woman went back and told the head park official and he told her he experienced the same thing she did.

Thank you for presenting these cases. It is tragic that so many people get lost when planning a nice outing. I wonder if the fog and terrain, plus lack of proper knowledge of preventing hypothermia, also, pushing themselves too much, could all add to the problem. These parks are huge, and can present unexpected dangers. Always be cautious, let others know your itinerary, and pay attention to weather forecasts. More than one person has been undone by early snowfalls. I enjoy your narration. It would be nice if your videos might provide some previously unknown information. Stick together and don't try to push yourself too hard. Please take all the proper precautions. Happy trails to you!
I regularly hike GSMNP and know all of these stories. I have hiked many trails in the park and most of those I have hiked alone. Most of the people that have gone missing have simply wandered off and gotten lost. It is very easy to do even in some well traveled trails. The best things to do are to prepare for the worst case scenario, tell someone where you will be, stick to your plan, stay on the designated trails and always be aware of your surroundings.
The forest is nowhere near as dangerous as most urban areas in the USA such as Chicago, NYC, Baltimore, Oakland, St. Louis, Detroit, Philadelphia, etc. The Great Smoky Mountains is a beautiful, tranquil and safe place which sees over 12 million visitors per year with only a small fraction of those being injured (which is not uncommon in any environment) or going missing (less than 12 in over 50 years). Your are safer in the Smokies than in any of the aforementioned cities.
It's interesting that, although Ireland doesn't have these kinds of disappearances, everyone knows the old tales of people being "caught by the faeries" and taken away to places where time doesn't pass like it does here.
@@Loralanthalas Not all. I live near to one that is ancient. An area of "outstanding scientific importance" When you get off the path respectfully, listen and observe, you can sense the spirit of it. You become part of it. It's easy to get lost if you don't keep your focus wide
People really need to buy David's books to see the complexity and the terrifying reality of the mystery at hand. Personally, I've bought 5 of the 8 or 9 Missing 411 books and I always find myself digging into them to re-read some of these perplexing cases. You can't begin to grasp the amplitude and magnitude of this mystery without reading the books.
@@Ur2ez4me81 Thanks for asking. Personally I'd go with the first two volumes, Western United states and Eastern United states/Canada. These two books are in reality one huge volume split into two, both contain hundreds of cases that truly show the complexity of the mystery we are facing and offer great insights into David's quest for the truth. In my opinion these two books are a must-have for those having an interest in the phenomenon and in David's work, you absolutely need to read these books to truly grasp the full complexity and weirdness of what is happening in these parks and rural areas. Go for it! 👍😀
...imo, as far as the first story when a seemingly out of energy person can walk another two miles is easy, the body's survival instinct and recovery mode is stronger than any of us really realize and when your body is fighting for it's life, two miles is a very short distance imo.

What gives me chills is when I was a child around 4-5 years old me and my family went to the smoky mountains on this trail and my dad would always film on his camcorder whenever we traveled. I could remember on the tape about me explaining how I saw a bear and how it moved. At the time everyone laughed cause all kids speak nonsense but it’s similar with the missing of the Martin kid about other kids seeing bears walking...

Having been a swim team member, having trained to be a lifeguard and with said experiences in cold water, in my personal opinion... no way he goes that far unless he has some amazing training, X-Men ability or an eager guardian angel. I actually spoke with a buddy who was a Navy seal and he agreed with me and he has much more experience in the water than I do. All of that said, why not ask about my opinion before convicting me of being a jerk? I love stories like these, yet I am 100% OK with calling out total bullshit if I see it. I’m not sure why that would bother anyone else because my opinion can’t hurt you... it can’t cause any harm... it’s just an opinion. I feel really bad for people who seek validation from strangers on social media, and I always ask people who get upset over stupid comments, why? Why does it matter what other people think? And if it does matter why not first ask some questions to gain clarification on why they think the way they do? What is your motivation? If you’re motivation is to suggest to someone they handle something differently do you think approaching them in a non-accusatory manner might work better? I’m curious to know what you think. [ ] I come from Montenegro my grandfather was a sheep shepherd of around 250/300 sheeps. He has told me stories when I was just a kid that make sense to me now. He told me that theres a type of a mist that can appear especially in bad weather and can take a person miles and miles away after that the person doesnt remember a thing, He lived on high altitudes of almost 3000m. Now this is an old man who never had a tv, didnt read nore write. I visited the Smokies two years ago and right at the entrance of the park there was a sign that read: "Enter at your own Risk" That right there, freaked us out.. I knew something was up in that forest..
Missing411 is my favorite topic. Real life events that are unexplained and any clues only make it more of a mystery. My condolences to anyone involved. I'm not a believer in Big Foot, but something weird is definitely happening
It's very obvious that its more of an abduction than someone being lost. All national parks and forests are on top of military and terrestrial underground bases.

Avid hiker in my local area not a state national park, usual routine but had a gut feeling something was waiting for me, turned back. I could hear loud thumps on the ground when I was jogging back to my truck. Didn’t think much it. Invisible, couldn’t see it? Day3 Something made a loud growl outside my door, ran away, the whole street lit up with dog barks/ use to live close to where I use to hike. Day4 strange noises outside, pebbles thrown at my house.Day 7 something climbed on top of the house and stayed there, went back to sleep. Morning I couldn’t force myself awake, felt I was suffocating. Tried to fall sleep since I couldn’t wake up so as not to use more oxygen than needed. Eventually woke up. Day 9. Strange noises again, went outside with rifle, nothing, went to sleep. Two weeks later, saw the creature, gray alien looked all dark under moonlight? Moved away couple months later.
It is like the more you look into this stuff the more questions you get. This is a very strange yet there is some type of intelligence at work here. Turn around one second and your child disappears?! Adults going missing?! It is a very DEEP AND VERY WIDE RABBIT HOLE TO DIVE INTO!!!👀😵😨

Recently moved to East TN, just living here in the country, at the base of some hills, makes me feel uneasy. Dont know how else to explain it besides saying that the woods watch your every move and you never feel alone.

It's most likely people in today's day and age simply don't know how to survive in the wilderness as alot of our knowledge has been lost with the way most people live today that people have simply become stupid when it comes to survival without the proper training and knowledge!
Being a local here, it is also possible that Mark traveled downhill toward the creek. Even in the state he was in, downhill would make sense and certainly within a range he could have gotten to. No mention of it being downhill or uphill is really mentioned by David Paulides. This just appears to be a case of a perfect set of circumstances and poor decisions that led to hypothermia. First, they got went on the way up in the rain, than walked into the snow with clothes still wet. Once your cold, you don't feel the wet as much once you get into the colder air but your losing your internal core heat, so your body gives up circulation to the extremities to protect the cooling core. Less also to the brain, so also hypoxia plays a role here too. Paradoxia/ acute hypoxia can occur not only at very high elevations, but lower as well. On Everest this is lack of oxygen due to high elevation. But it can be induced by hypothermia at lower elevations. It's still the body reacting to the cold to protect the heart core. Hypoxia is workable situation when high, dry and cold relieved. But not very workable if its brought on by hypothermia from being wet in the cold and unaware of it. Walking up even further into snow make for a worst case event for Hypoxic-hypothermia event. It's important to make it a priority to get dry so you can stave off hypothermia and becoming hypoxic because of it. Survivable if they would have stopped, removed wet cotton clothes and got in their sleeping bags after a fire or at least dried off even without a change of cloths. The first hiker knew this and turned back and its better to hike back alone, than do anything Ben and Mark were planning to do. Clearly, they had no map otherwise they would have seen the shelter on their map a few hundred yards further up. Or at this point, they were both hypoxic and didn't think of looking at it. Hypoxia kills your senses and higher functions. They clearly didn't know how far along the trail and exactly where they were, maybe even roughly where the were. The advantage over being hypoxic at a lower elevation than being up high over 10,000 feet is once you are warm. oxygen returns to the extremities and brain. At high elevations supplemental O2 is needed or a dex shot. Much harder issues to solve. Imo, they were hypothermic hours before reaching the snow line and hypoxia could have onset before the snow line, by 6pm ,maybe before. No mention of them detailing the map if they had one, even at the time the first hiker turned around. At this point, they all weren't thinking the same. You are hours and quite far in a state of hypoxia when you start taking off your clothes for feeling hot or too warm. Mark was further along in this process as he had more issues on the way up than Ben. Probably got the most wet on the way up. This would explain why Ben never got to the point Mark did overnight. No account if Ben managed to dry off more in his sleeping bag than Mark did. Possibly already too hypoxic to think to dry off, as he would have already been feeling falsely warm from his condition. The sleeping bag and clothes would have felt unbearable. Got up and wandered off looking to cool off. The brain thinks water below instinctively to cool down. To him, it wouldn't have been more serious of an issue than taking a quick bathroom relief in the woods, no need to wake Ben.
We used to go hiking and camping in the Smokey's 2-3 times a year. We didn't even do camp sites, just pull off the road and find a spot in the woods next to a stream. I don't know if you can even do that anymore but this was 20 years ago. It's scary to hear these stories because we used to always go off in the woods as kids and run ahead on trails!!!! I can't imagine losing someone while enjoying yourself so much.
Your parents likely gave you a TON of lessons- always look around, know if you're going up or down hill, which way the sun is and the directions, which side of trees all the moss grows on. --- Most parents don't teach their kids basics of surroundings and navigation, it's a learned skill.

I basically live in the smokey mountains and I can tell you some stories that will raise the hair on your neck and I've seen things I wished I hadn't but I love these mountains and it's my home but the weather here is like no other place it can be 70 for three days and turn to snow and 0 degrees in just hours the weather here is not predictable in the winter time so anyone plan on hiking here be prepared of this and never go unarmed
@@mareerosebakeshoppe9667 I go hiking in the Smokys all the time and usually by myself. I've never felt creeped out or anything. Just make sure you dress for all weather conditions. Never go off trail you will certainly get lost. The woods here very disorientating.

But I don't know all the facts of the case either. I was thinking about how people are found in places far off the trails. Like the mother that was supposed to meet her daughter in the parking lot. Could there be something that catches one's attention and lures them away? It would have to be something which is able to mesmerize them or perhaps imitate the voice of a loved one in order to make them panic enough to override common sense. Just a thought. I really like that you didnt just lap up paulides's word like a thirsty dog on a hot day and basically regurgitate it to make your video. You actually gave some very insightful criticism and pointed out things that he never seems to mention that is a big reason why many people may be found with out shoes or coats on that he makes seem like is so bewildering, while anyone with any knowledge of camping or hypothermia know. I do enjoy his work and it has intrigued me for sure. I just think some things he points out as mysterious are actually pretty straightforward and he's trying to add spook factor where none is needed and therefore hurts his credibility. But thanks for the awesome video!
David Palides is a well informed individual. He's the one who first noticed these missing people anomalies in parks. He's a trained retired police detective with years of experience and does his research well. He has numerous books on this subject also. He is more than qualified to speak on and draw attention to these missing people.

I was a forestry/wildlife major in college and I can tell you it's really easy to hide in the woods and not be seen. I think she is these are people who got lost or injured and ended up (willingly or not) in places they just couldn't be seen. Some I have no question were abducted by someone hiding. Like everyone says, stay in trail and never separate. This isn't television, no one is going to show up in 5 minutes with full rescue crew to come get you. The wildlife is real.

I'm from the UK and have had the pleasure of hiking the Smokies, I hiked part of the Appalachian trail and can tell you first hand its spooky, I was aware of the national park missing cases beforehand so when you're actually there it's very hard to forget how easy it is to disappear forever. It's a beautiful place but that being said its definitely the creepiest national park I've hiked!

Been to Great Smoky Mountains National Park twice. Before I head of the Missing 411 phenomenon. I felt strange hiking on the trails as if someone or something was watching me. Beautiful place but very creepy

I've lived here in Pigeon Forge, all my life. I remember a lot of these, it's very easy to get lost if you go off the trails at all. You can lose direction easily. GOD bless all these families, and future visitors.
I understand that feeling you mentioned of being watched. It reminds me of something that happened to me when I was a teenager in my hometown. On the edge of town was a small park in a hollow. It had been closed for years but still had old picnic areas, a small amphitheater and old signs depicting park trails. I used to visit the place out of curiosity, and one thing that stood out was each time I went there the vibe got weirder, as if I was being watched closely and intently by someone or something. And this feeling got stronger during each visit. The final time I was planning to go there, I was half way down the old trail in when it was as though I'd hit a wall. I couldn't go any further and I felt both sick and frightened. It's hard to explain but it's like that 'inner voice' was actually yelling 'GO BACK!!' After I reached the street above the feeling vanished. I haven't been back to that place in all these years.
I would be scared to hike there as it is because they have bears there.
The Thelma story.... this happened to someone I knew she went ahead of everyone, somehow fell off the trail and wedged herself deep into rocks. She died of brain injury and exposure. The body was very hard to find because of the rocks.
There is a rule about splitting up or hiking ahead .... never do it.

I didn't know her body was ever found. I thought that was the woman who was possibly planning to run away from her older, fairly disabled husband who she was largely caring for and after a series of failed marriages. Her behaviour in the days leading up to her vanishing was suspicious and there were cheques cashed on her account the year after but the bank teller couldn't remember the person who'd done it. There was no CCTV in 1981. The local pastor as the charity centre she volunteered at thought she might be having an affair (never proven) and she made phone calls there which she had never done before in all the years she'd worked there. I think she went off to start a new life and her behaviour on the trail was very odd, speeding up and then slowing down several times in an attempt to throw off her companions to make good her exit.
Richard Helliwell you are right. She had talked to a man in a car in the parking lot, then deliberately hiked way ahead of everyone in her party. There were checks written in Georgia from her account. Nowadays, there should be handwriting specialists to know if it was her handwriting or not. We lived in the town where she went missing from and hiked that same trail almost every day. It’s a very family oriented, nice trail. Weird though. I’d like to see those checks be annualized 🙂

If she had been abducted I cannot imagine the perpetrator would have run the risk of being identified by cashing her cheques in a bank! I think the handwriting on the cheques was thought to be hers at the time, but it's only what I read. It's another case that David Paulides makes a lot of even though the explanation looks fairly simple.

Yes I agree. What makes it worse is that we do not know the actual numbers of missing people since its not made public unless it hits the news. I would like to know just here in my national forest. (I'm in the mountains weekly and have had some strange experiences. ) I mean it would be nice to know if a serial killer is under the radar or a mountain lion on the rampage or even a possible BF in the forest. The woman lost at G Creek is almost at my backyard. Never found.

People don't understand the wilderness is not like their "safe spaces" they live their lives in. Never go alone, bring extra food and water, all weather gear, a means to get help, and weapons--a good hunting knife at the very least!

I had an experience a few years ago while hiking with my daughter in the Smokies: It was a beautiful day, nothing unusual, then all of a sudden, everything went dead silent, the wind stop blowing, and we both had a very uneasy feeling as if we were being watched or were in danger. This lasted for about 3 or 4 minutes, and then everything went back to normal. The breeze came back and the forest sounds resumed. Later on, I learned that this is a phenomenon that many people have experienced there, and in other places around the country.
Look, in all fairness you startled me too ! So I just froze and didn’t take my eyes off of you ...It was a bit scary ...You were some of the first humans I ever encountered
I've also hiked alot of times here in these mountains and have experienced this same thing. It's very unnerving and makes you feel like you want to take off running , like something is fixing to happen that my freinds is your body telling you something. It's a natural gift that a person has. My advice is this. If you do hike alone kinda stay with others , not up on them , just stay somewhat behind or in front of. Never hike alone.
There are animals that hunt and they can snatch you off of a trail without you making a sound. They will drag you off to have a meal. Scary but true. Allways be aware of your surroundings. Enjoy !!!! Yes !!!! But be very vidualent and never never hike alone.

Kinda makes you feel like turning around in circles trying to watch out for yourself and almost makes you feel very uneasy. I to felt like something was stalking me. I was hiking alone stupid me. Then everything went back to normal. That is your body telling you something could happen here. Panic kinda sits in. But I ended up being ok. But I haven't been back on that certain trail either.

I agree. David has been doing this a long time and like the first missing person in this video I believe there is more reasons he thinks they fit the profile for missing 411. He gets all the details and reports and talks to the families and people they were with.

My personal opinion...I think that Jeepers Creepers thing is really flying around hunting and stalking people. These movies are telling us things but are we paying attention. The Hills have eyes...😳😳

in some cases they don't even break up. sometimes, one just ends up walking behind the others, out of their sight, and when they turn around he/she is gone. that seems to be pretty rare but that's been mentioned in some of the cases in the books. also, not to speculate but considering how far out the rest of the details of these cases are, we can't really assume anything. we can't even assume that these people are responsible for their own judgment. if we can imagine some UFO or portal sucking them up through the 4th dimension, or fairies walking out of boulders and kidnapping hikers, then surely we can imagine some kind of entity or force that controls the victims' minds, or lures them away from their group, or somehow diminishes their critical thinking and survival instincts. and if one of those ideas is the case, it wouldn't surprise me much, since it explains a lot of the other phenomena, particularly the weird behavior of many of the victims. ditching clothes, food, and important gear, yet sometimes holding onto relatively useless, heavy stuff. something i've noticed in a LOT of these cases is that if the victim went missing with a camera, the camera is almost never found. in the few cases when it is found, weird pictures are often found on it, when the storage isn't permanently damaged. but in most cases the camera simply remains missing forever, even when other discarded items are quickly found. so you get the impression that these people almost never discard their cameras, yet somehow manage to throw away their pants, shoes, socks, sleeping bags, food, beacons, etc. all the time. pretty weird behavior, and not consistent with (the unproven hypothesis) paradoxical undressing. often people ditch their clothes even when they go missing in temperate climates. sometimes their pants or shoes are found as little as a few hours after they first went missing. conditions where they couldn't possibly be hypothermic, unless they were suffering some kind of bizarre genetic disorder affecting their thermoregulation/homeostasis.

Back east the Jeepers Creepers are called Hillbillies. Out west they are called Druggies!!! Dangerous and evil, laws rules and regulations do not seem to apply to them. Only to law abiding citizens. Many of these missing people are probably kidnapped raped robbed tortured like a cat with a mouse and then killed. It seems that some of them are later placed in water and/or areas already searched so they can be found. Thus no mass numbers of people probing the area so the low life types are back in business. I think mostly they steal from campsites but if they can get the drop on someone???

Bigfoot, for one not a nice one it was destructive in our small mountain farm, we found a dog not ours stuffed under the wall of our barn after many hard pulls to get it out it’s head was missing looked torn from body , scared us all, screaming ,foul Oder like, rotten cabbage this went on for a week I’m glad it left, then we heard some people in Tennessee had there hogs massacred it was after our two pigs ,my brother seen it he said I did to ,we were kids I remember running back to house I was scared wouldn’t get near any windows I truly think I blocked it from my memory I just know I hate to be near any window now.
When you look at the incidences of people who have gone missing or have been discovered dead in suspicious circumstances,in similar regions throughout the world,I.e Dyatlov pass,one common thread that binds Dyatlov with some of the US disappearances is the deployment of military units,and not just any units but special forces,Spetsnaz units combed the Dyatlov area and the mountain troop of delta force combed the area where a 5 year old boy went missing,obviously,the military know what is potentially out there,whether it is a military experiment gone drastically wrong or they know that there are cryptids roaming these area,I.e bigfoot and the yeti,who knows,but it's interesting that these military units would be deployed in a very small number of these occurrences.Also,when they were deployed they were very heavily armed and they would have no contact with the other search and rescue teams,for sure,someone in government knows exactly what is going on.
A moose and a gorilla have already tried to kill me. No way in heck I’d go into nature alone. Pretty sure they tried to attack me because they sensed I was a weak link. I had undiagnosed Addison’s disease when this happened. Also, German. I figure that puts a huge target on my back.

Phalanx Both at different zoos. I was standing in front of a floor to ceiling crack in the glass. The gorillas were at least ten feet away. I looked away for a second & one gorilla ran to where I was & smashed on the glass. Pretty sure I peed myself.
The moose was grazing. Looked up & saw us behind the BARBED WIRE. He casually strolled over. We were excited & saying how sweet. When he got in front of me he lowered his head & rammed his antlers into the fence. We left fast. I do believe they somehow knew I was ill.🤷♀️

When I was four, a wild coyote tried to attack me in a populated area. There was no reason for the coyote to have even gotten close enough, but it lunged at me. My grandmothers neighbor shot it mid-air. That was a few months before I was diagnosed with hear complications

@@Staminist-MMF-80 it has to be a combination of things. My strongest belief ties into the Stranger Things theory. The ones who make it back alive are the lucky ones. For whatever reason they are able to hide until the portal opens back up and they return with no memory of what was on the other side.
Yes they are now being recorded in urban areas. It has almost seamlessly transitioned into cities now. It isn't just the parks anymore.
Those who speak will never know, and those who know will never speak. That's my belief. The truth would probably upset the masses and make them uncontrollable which is unacceptable for those in power.

I was in the redwoods a few years ago, with my little family and my boyfriend's family, there was nobody else on the trail, and we were walking through the trails for a little while, before we left i really had to go to the bathroom and there was no bathroom. So I went back up into the trail by myself, deep into the redwoods and the really big ferns they have. Anyway, I found a secluded spot, and went to the bathroom. While I was going, I had this strange, creepy feeling of being watched. I looked around and nothing was there. Gave me goosebumps, I hurried up and ran back to my family. Before I got into the car I looked one more time and just had a strange feeling. I didn't know about the missing people in state parks till last year. I would have never went alone if I knew what I knew now. Thank God I didn't disappear. Scares me when I think about it.
CaliLove My sister had the same expierence in Yosemite! In happy isles, and now she won’t go back. Thankful she was with someone, we always try to stay together to avoid ending up in Missing 411 books.

There was a time when my family took me to a forest, I was picking flowers just for fun and exploring. I saw something like 2 big apes or humans from a long distance I didn't know who and what they were, I was curious and wanted to check what are those things?! I tried getting a bit closer and I swear the more I keep walking the more they become so far for me to reach eventho they were standing in the same place. There is a moment I felt weird and disturbed when I felt I'm a bit far from my parents destination that's when I stopped went back, until this day I still remember it and curious about it
That's why everyone should carry a whistle when going out. Whistles are one of the best bang-for-the-buck items you can have with you in an emergency or survival situation.The sound of a whistle will attract rescue personal to your location.
Or screw the national park laws and illegally carry a small pistol. If you need it to scare off a momma bear with cubs like made us abandon our camp there (bad drought yr) or if you get lost screw a ticket you're alive... Otherwise hush and obey the law and I will too
I had participated in 30+ searches in my SAR career(mostly in NYS). For one..people are not prepared properly to hike...they also do not have a means to stay in the woods overnight. Lost persons are usually found well outside the search area. Most of these "disappearances" sound like ill-prepared hikers and/or intentional disappearances. Most people never look behind them when they hike or go off trail...so they have no idea what the return trip looks like. Many people getting lost after stepping 150 feet off the trail (usual rules for "restroom" breaks). They get lost and disoriented and never find the trail. Many folks when lost walk in circles or they follow drainages/creeks. Hypothermia and panic play a big role in why these people are found so far or never found. I find that in many cases rivers that are deemed unpassable or other natural barriers the IC folks use as lines to define search areas are not adequate as an estimate of how far the person could be. Another factor in all this is that people may carry compasses and maps and GPSs, but they do not know how to use them.
I'm always surprised people expect to find somone. Most of us can't even find our keys in our own house.

I don't understand why people put themselves in dangerous situations then rescuers have to search for them.
Do remember that there was an account of an endurance trail biker that said he was suddenly overcome by heat and it was put into his head to find water, he even heard water flowing. His companions caught up with him while he was removing and folding his clothes. He suddenly "snapped out of it" a hypnotic state by his account and realized what he was doing. He was not one to stop or even put his foot down when determining to bike a specific trail. His companions were astonished to see that he had stopped at all. I don't necessarily trust paulides but there are accounts that don't fit into the explanation of physicians.
....More than likely Bigfoot, it plays a large roll in disappearances, the head trauma on Brad the kid, probably they stumbled into Bigfoot territory, it's highly territorial, they have been known to throw rocks and dead smallish tree trunks at people. Bigfoot has been reported by just a few people that they are telepathic, more than likely that "endurance trail biker" you mentioned was controlled by a near by Bigfoot. BF is making more appearances as of lately too. We are encroaching into its territory, building houses, roads etc.
I heard that his friend originally saw a large wolf man hybrid about 9 ft tall standing over his friend as he was taking off layers of clothes. But when it saw him it disappeared into the forest at an incredible speed.

I'm from British Columbia, Vancouver area. Do look into the many disappearances here. Particularly Capillano bridge area. As well the continue of shoes with feet turning up on our shores. Can't figure it out why it happens here.
They said that when you have hypothermia you want to take your clothes off and probably your shoes because you get really hot.

Like for the shoes with bones in them is a serial killer or killers that specifically do that and they might be travelers the go to different parks. Its just really mind boggling. I have read all of the Missing 411 books with specific attention to the Great Smokey National Park cases. The incredible thing (other than matching Missing 411 profile points) is that when you put pins (or just labels) on your Google Map, these cases are literally within a two mile radius. I don't want to scare anyone but if you are planning to hike to Clingman's dome, especially between 3-4:30 PM... You should be holding hands with your hiking partners and recording every second of it on your smartphone. You should also have a personal locator beacon on you and you should not wear bright red.
"Maybe" for Some Vanishings, folks have walked right into an invisible doorway to somewhere else-far away? I know people say "portal" but doorway to me feels right. I dunno, the whole thing gives me the creeps and keeps me OUT of National Parks!!
Hey Where Did The Road Go interviewed David Paulides on his book Missing 411 The Devils In the Details. In that interview David told a story about a couple who were hiking and the husband disappeared. During the days of the search a woman was walking along that trail and heard a man's voice yelling out for help. The woman went back and told the head park official and he told her he experienced the same thing she did.

I regularly hike GSMNP and know all of these stories. I have hiked many trails in the park and most of those I have hiked alone. Most of the people that have gone missing have simply wandered off and gotten lost. It is very easy to do even in some well traveled trails. The best things to do are to prepare for the worst case scenario, tell someone where you will be, stick to your plan, stay on the designated trails and always be aware of your surroundings.

The forest is nowhere near as dangerous as most urban areas in the USA such as Chicago, NYC, Baltimore, Oakland, St. Louis, Detroit, Philadelphia, etc. The Great Smoky Mountains is a beautiful, tranquil and safe place which sees over 12 million visitors per year with only a small fraction of those being injured (which is not uncommon in any environment) or going missing (less than 12 in over 50 years). Your are safer in the Smokies than in any of the aforementioned cities.

People really need to buy David's books to see the complexity and the terrifying reality of the mystery at hand. Personally, I've bought 5 of the 8 or 9 Missing 411 books and I always find myself digging into them to re-read some of these perplexing cases. You can't begin to grasp the amplitude and magnitude of this mystery without reading the books.

These two books are in reality one huge volume split into two, both contain hundreds of cases that truly show the complexity of the mystery we are facing and offer great insights into David's quest for the truth. In my opinion these two books are a must-have for those having an interest in the phenomenon and in David's work, you absolutely need to read these books to truly grasp the full complexity and weirdness of what is happening in these parks and rural areas. ...imo, as far as the first story when a seemingly out of energy person can walk another two miles is easy, the body's survival instinct and recovery mode is stronger than any of us really realize and when your body is fighting for it's life, two miles is a very short distance imo.

What gives me chills is when I was a child around 4-5 years old me and my family went to the smoky mountains on this trail and my dad would always film on his camcorder whenever we traveled. I could remember on the tape about me explaining how I saw a bear and how it moved. At the time everyone laughed cause all kids speak nonsense but it’s similar with the missing of the Martin kid about other kids seeing bears walking...

I’ve suffered from hypothermia once and there’s no way he could’ve traveled two miles. When I had it I couldn’t swim 20 feet with no current.

Having been a swim team member, having trained to be a lifeguard and with said experiences in cold water, in my personal opinion... no way he goes that far unless he has some amazing training, X-Men ability or an eager guardian angel. I actually spoke with a buddy who was a Navy seal and he agreed with me and he has much more experience in the water than I do.
All of that said, why not ask about my opinion before convicting me of being a jerk? I love stories like these, yet I am 100% OK with calling out total bullshit if I see it. I’m not sure why that would bother anyone else because my opinion can’t hurt you... it can’t cause any harm... it’s just an opinion.
I feel really bad for people who seek validation from strangers on social media, and I always ask people who get upset over stupid comments, why? Why does it matter what other people think? And if it does matter why not first ask some questions to gain clarification on why they think the way they do? What is your motivation?
If you’re motivation is to suggest to someone they handle something differently do you think approaching them in a non-accusatory manner might work better? I’m curious to know what you think.

[ ] I come from Montenegro my grandfather was a sheep shepherd of around 250/300 sheeps. He has told me stories when I was just a kid that make sense to me now. He told me that theres a type of a mist that can appear especially in bad weather and can take a person miles and miles away after that the person doesnt remember a thing, He lived on high altitudes of almost 3000m. Now this is an old man who never had a tv, didnt read nore write. He also told me a story about a cavemen/tall beasts if your interested please write in reply and I will share that one too. #Missing411

Avid hiker in my local area not a state national park, usual routine but had a gut feeling something was waiting for me, turned back. I could hear loud thumps on the ground when I was jogging back to my truck. Didn’t think much it. Invisible, couldn’t see it? Day3 Something made a loud growl outside my door, ran away, the whole street lit up with dog barks/ use to live close to where I use to hike. Day4 strange noises outside, pebbles thrown at my house.Day 7 something climbed on top of the house and stayed there, went back to sleep. Morning I couldn’t force myself awake, felt I was suffocating. Tried to fall sleep since I couldn’t wake up so as not to use more oxygen than needed. Eventually woke up. Day 9. Strange noises again, went outside with rifle, nothing, went to sleep. Two weeks later, saw the creature, gray alien looked all dark under moonlight? Moved away couple months later.

Recently moved to East TN, just living here in the country, at the base of some hills, makes me feel uneasy. Dont know how else to explain it besides saying that the woods watch your every move and you never feel alone.

Being a local here, it is also possible that Mark traveled downhill toward the creek. Even in the state he was in, downhill would make sense and certainly within a range he could have gotten to. No mention of it being downhill or uphill is really mentioned by David Paulides. This just appears to be a case of a perfect set of circumstances and poor decisions that led to hypothermia. First, they got went on the way up in the rain, than walked into the snow with clothes still wet. Once your cold, you don't feel the wet as much once you get into the colder air but your losing your internal core heat, so your body gives up circulation to the extremities to protect the cooling core. Less also to the brain, so also hypoxia plays a role here too.
Paradoxia/ acute hypoxia can occur not only at very high elevations, but lower as well. On Everest this is lack of oxygen due to high elevation. But it can be induced by hypothermia at lower elevations. It's still the body reacting to the cold to protect the heart core. Hypoxia is workable situation when high, dry and cold relieved. But not very workable if its brought on by hypothermia from being wet in the cold and unaware of it. Walking up even further into snow make for a worst case event for Hypoxic-hypothermia event. It's important to make it a priority to get dry so you can stave off hypothermia and becoming hypoxic because of it. Survivable if they would have stopped, removed wet cotton clothes and got in their sleeping bags after a fire or at least dried off even without a change of cloths. The first hiker knew this and turned back and its better to hike back alone, than do anything Ben and Mark were planning to do. Clearly, they had no map otherwise they would have seen the shelter on their map a few hundred yards further up. Or at this point, they were both hypoxic and didn't think of looking at it.
Hypoxia kills your senses and higher functions. They clearly didn't know how far along the trail and exactly where they were, maybe even roughly where the were. The advantage over being hypoxic at a lower elevation than being up high over 10,000 feet is once you are warm. oxygen returns to the extremities and brain. At high elevations supplemental O2 is needed or a dex shot. Much harder issues to solve. Imo, they were hypothermic hours before reaching the snow line and hypoxia could have onset before the snow line, by 6pm ,maybe before. No mention of them detailing the map if they had one, even at the time the first hiker turned around. At this point, they all weren't thinking the same. You are hours and quite far in a state of hypoxia when you start taking off your clothes for feeling hot or too warm. Mark was further along in this process as he had more issues on the way up than Ben. Probably got the most wet on the way up. This would explain why Ben never got to the point Mark did overnight. No account if Ben managed to dry off more in his sleeping bag than Mark did. Possibly already too hypoxic to think to dry off, as he would have already been feeling falsely warm from his condition. The sleeping bag and clothes would have felt unbearable. Got up and wandered off looking to cool off. The brain thinks water below instinctively to cool down. To him, it wouldn't have been more serious of an issue than taking a quick bathroom relief in the woods, no need to wake Ben.
Clingmans dome is a paved path all the way up from the parking lot that one is strange because there is nowhere to go but on the paved path
We used to go hiking and camping in the Smokey's 2-3 times a year. We didn't even do camp sites, just pull off the road and find a spot in the woods next to a stream. I don't know if you can even do that anymore but this was 20 years ago. It's scary to hear these stories because we used to always go off in the woods as kids and run ahead on trails!!!! I can't imagine losing someone while enjoying yourself so much.
Your parents likely gave you a TON of lessons- always look around, know if you're going up or down hill, which way the sun is and the directions, which side of trees all the moss grows on. --- Most parents don't teach their kids basics of surroundings and navigation, it's a learned skill.

I basically live in the smokey mountains and I can tell you some stories that will raise the hair on your neck and I've seen things I wished I hadn't but I love these mountains and it's my home but the weather here is like no other place it can be 70 for three days and turn to snow and 0 degrees in just hours the weather here is not predictable in the winter time so anyone plan on hiking here be prepared of this and never go unarmed

@@mareerosebakeshoppe9667 I go hiking in the Smokys all the time and usually by myself. I've never felt creeped out or anything. Just make sure you dress for all weather conditions. Never go off trail you will certainly get lost. The woods here very disorientating.

Excellent video!👍 I also think that the first story is basically a case of hypothermia. It is not abnormal enough, based on this information, to be a "Missing 411" type of case. But I don't know all the facts of the case either.
I was thinking about how people are found in places far off the trails. Like the mother that was supposed to meet her daughter in the parking lot. Could there be something that catches one's attention and lures them away? It would have to be something which is able to mesmerize them or perhaps imitate the voice of a loved one in order to make them panic enough to override common sense. Just a thought.

I really like that you didnt just lap up paulides's word like a thirsty dog on a hot day and basically regurgitate it to make your video. You actually gave some very insightful criticism and pointed out things that he never seems to mention that is a big reason why many people may be found with out shoes or coats on that he makes seem like is so bewildering, while anyone with any knowledge of camping or hypothermia know. I do enjoy his work and it has intrigued me for sure.
I just think some things he points out as mysterious are actually pretty straightforward and he's trying to add spook factor where none is needed and therefore hurts his credibility.
But thanks for the awesome video!

David Palides is a well informed individual. He's the one who first noticed these missing people anomalies in parks. He's a trained retired police detective with years of experience and does his research well. He has numerous books on this subject also. He is more than qualified to speak on and draw attention to these missing people.
He also fabricated stories and “evidence” and grossly exaggerated a lot of his stories. But okay.
People really should've learned it by now, that when You get hypothermic, You will take Your clothes off, it feels like You are burning to death.. Awesome video, Thank You 🖤

I was a forestry/wildlife major in college and I can tell you it's really easy to hide in the woods and not be seen. I think she is these are people who got lost or injured and ended up (willingly or not) in places they just couldn't be seen. Some I have no question were abducted by someone hiding. Like everyone says, stay in trail and never separate. This isn't television, no one is going to show up in 5 minutes with full rescue crew to come get you. The wildlife is real.
It seems like people who go missing usually feel an urge to walk off ahead at speed.
