hey man i m very doof at drawing but i suck in math what do you think can i have a future as an architect even if i m not good in math because you can t just draw something from imagination and build it .You need to calculate all those formulas if you want that house to stand up .so my answer is that is important math for an architect
I think math is an important skill but it eventually goes beyond the needs of an architect. I would say learn math to the extent that it helps your craft. If you need to pick up more math for a special project, I would do it as needed. Just my opinion.
Thank you so much for posting this video! I now know how to draw a perspective view for my house. I needed it for my CE151P class, unfortunately our professor does not teach us how to do so. That's why I'm so so so thankful! :D
I'm sorry your professor doesn't teach you how to do this, but am so glad I could help. As you familiarize yourself with the process you'll be amazed how quickly you can sketch out believable ideas. Let me know if you need any other video tutorials and I will try to accommodate you.
Hey there, sorry for the late reply. You use a larger piece of paper underneath and tape the smaller one down on top. that way your vanishing points stay consistent and wide enough to get the effect you want.
ahmm, nevermind. thanks btw. :) I already did my plate.you see, i'm a freshie so I did not get that at first bc the example given to us by our instructor is different
hey there, i would like to have a video over 2 point perspective of interior of a room. I really liked, understood the perspective but for having a true understanding i would like to have a knowledge . Can you please make one over it.
Hey Anirudh, I will do my best to make one for you in the new year. I'm working on Christmas orders at the moment and am short on time. Thank you for the request and I will work on it. Until I make the new video, check out this one I made which addresses interiors a little bit. ua-cam.com/video/eBy9GMNMT7M/v-deo.html
Thank you for this video. I cannot, for the life of me, grasp 2 point perspective, my drawing professor tried helping me so many times and I'd still get confused.
Hey Irvine Smith, here is a video I made that I think explains the answer to your question. If not, let me know and I will try to understand your question better. Thanks, Josh ua-cam.com/video/p7kGCDMAEpQ/v-deo.html
Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me when to use the different perspectives? Not how, but when. I know how to use them I just don't know when you should use one point and when you should use two point and when you should use three point perspective. In which case scenario would you use each of them? Thanks!
Sorry for the late reply. I think of 1 point perspective being most effective when drawing tunnel scenes, pathways, train tracks, roads, mountain paths, alleyways, hallways or anytime you want the viewer to have a tunnel focus directly ahead of them. I think of two point perspective for interior and exterior spaces where you want see objects in various places within the environment or anytime you want the viewer to visually explore different parts of the composition. As for 3 point perspective, I am not as familiar with it, so I can't really speak to its use.
I have one question I never find an answer to. How far can one know to place the two vanishing points. Because that creates the angle of the roof. That's the first question. Do you just guess? Thanks for the good video. These videos are such a service and I am grateful for them.
Melissa Lundberg find the middle of the front or foremost wall and extend a line up vertically as tall as you want the peak of your roof. From the top of that line draw a guideline back to its vanishing point. This guideline serves as the ridge line for your roof. The top of the vertical line also serves as your point of reference to draw the angled lines down to the top corners of the foremost wall (giving you the angles of the roof for the foremost portion). To keep the angle of the roof consistent as it goes back into space you must repeat the process you used on the foremost wall to create your vertical line. Only this time you find the middle of the back wall and extend a vertical line up until it meets the ridge line of your roof. This point of intersection allows you to accurately create the angles of the roof that meet up with the back top corners of the house. Please respond if you'd like a vid to clarify.
I really appreciate this. I never learned to draw buildings because of this one question. I have to try and think on your words and do them simultaneously to really GET it! If you do a video to clarify, I am sure a lot of people would appreciate it. Thank you many times for efforts in behalf of others!! I just subscribed.
This is good for artists, but not adequate for doing architectural rendering. It doesn't provide a way to establish the locations of elements accurately to a real subject. This method relies on the artist's eye, which is good enough for art, but not for rendering.
True. This is a very basic look at 2 pt. perspective for artists. If you would like a more comprehensive look at this technique I highly recommend checking out ua-cam.com/users/scottrobertsondesign Scott Robertson can definitely take your skills to a higher level and give you useful information to render objects in space.
I wasn't complaining about your video, merely pointing out that this isn't for architects. Of course, architects & architectural drafters are mostly using 3D CAD software now and wouldn't need to manually draw a perspective rendering. I don't use 3D CAD, and was recently asked to do a rendering and hadn't done a proper perspective in ages, so I was looking for a tutorial to refresh my memory. I did find a couple, BTW. Your video is perfectly adequate for artists.
Think of it in terms of basic 3d shapes. Cube, cylinder, cone & sphere. Think of the body as a cube and the wheels as cylinders. Draw the shapes with a very light line-weight. Once you have the basic shapes in place, start refining the basic shapes to be more elegant and realistic using a light line-weight. Study what you've got and with a medium line-weight darken the details that look good. I'll try to post a video to help with this in a few weeks.
Shua Hendry well, i think that I need to see the absolute basics of the perspective. this is new to me but I can see it's massive potential to make my art a lot better. and ...lol the people in my apartment building are loud lol so who knows? maybe you should but in captions :)
My best teacher ever
You did a thorough job explaining the subject thanks. I learned a lot of useful tips.
Glad it helped!
Very helpful. Nicely done
Glad it helped
I love the size paper, what size is it?
I am not completely sure as the paper was given as a gift from one of my student's. I believe I was using my 24" ruler if that helps.
thank u so much! the X trick was really helpful, and overall, the teaching was to the point
Glad it helped! I remember when I learned that technique, it helped so much.
Good tutorial drawing perspektif 👍👍👍👍
Glad you liked it!
Great video, very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice work
Thanks!
Thank you Mr. Henry.
Thanks for making this! Nice to watch. Easy to understand, see and hear. Much appreciated.

How do you determine if vanishing points need to be off the paper, and how do you measure in those instances?
Hey there, sorry for the late reply. You use a larger piece of paper underneath and tape the smaller one down on top. that way your vanishing points stay consistent and wide enough to get the effect you want.
this is kind of a weird question, but does the sound only work on the left earbud for anyone else. my earbuds work fine on other videos
+Jessica K yh me too idk why lol
Lol mine too
Do you have a vid of 2 pt perspective wherein you'll draw first the plan?
I don't think I do, but if you will explain more in-depth what you'd like to see, I'll make one for you.
ahmm, nevermind. thanks btw. :) I already did my plate.you see, i'm a freshie so I did not get that at first bc the example given to us by our instructor is different
Is there such a thing as 3-point perspective ?? Thank you.
yes!
There is, but I am not experienced enough in it to teach.
Thank u. You made my art homework easier.
I don't understand! And I have a art hw about this which is by tmr!

It's not an easy concept to grasp. It takes time.
Thank you man really thank you

Thank you sir! Now I know how to draw a point perspective for my Engineering drawing. xD

how do you decide where to put the vertical sides so it has the same lenght with the horizontal sides in the real condition?

But you have to do so many years and things to become an architect. The question is, Is it worth it?
Any profession worth doing will take years to do well. As you get older it won't seem so bad.
