Excellent one, tried it last week in Team Building workshop, works perfectly and participants loves it, it is easy, practical and so much fun. Thank you Adriana.
Yes, I will! Thank you, Adriana. I will do this one at our next meeting. I appreciate you putting all this together. Cheers from Southern California and Baja Mexico.
I did this for my adult ESL students when I taught them adjectives. But it had the same positive effect on each student. They felt really good about themselves and the students got closer. Thank you!
Nicole, thanks for sharing. I love that you used this for your ESL students and that it had such a positive effect on each of them! Stories like these are so wonderful to hear, thank you! Cheers!
As a clinical supervisor, with a group who is fragmented, I will definately be trying this poncho excercise next week. Thank you Adrianna, it's the first time I needeed to think about an excercise for team building. Really appreciate your bubbly enery and support.
@AdrianaGirdler I moderated our team offsite and initiated this activity as a warm-up. The positive feedback I received was truly heartening, and words can't capture how much I appreciate it. I just wanted to express my gratitude for such a creative idea. People like you contribute to spreading joy, helping others start their workday on a positive note. Thank you so much.
Pull through…it’s something you kind of understand in principle, but not until you truly experience various action and reaction of group dynamics… does it come together in a lucid and relatable concept. Intentions converting to intentional actions. The privacy, transparency and proper oversight of systems crosses through these matters… irony flows, the positive feedback loops help, but don’t completely ease bias. These things are not new. I had. Manager once… who was the one who hired me in my first corporate job… interesting dynamics to be sure. At one meeting, I tried to show him some books and thoughts of the work I’ve done… he had expressed an interest. I usually wait for someone to care or have a common share point. It’s really just trying toe kind. This manager still was my manger in very complex and shifting times in healthcare. It’s all just a lot. But, there are so many wonderful pathways beginning to lighten. Granted, it make the blind spots all the more shaded… that too is understandable but can’t be completely understood. Being and nothings and All… Much love y’all.
Wow, what a great idea!!! I'm a Serbian, European, guy living in Guangzhou, the South of China, and we are practically a start up company, with two small English training centers with foreign teachers, and I will DEFINITELLY do this amazing team building activity with both of my teams in both of these school! You are really inspiring and I will recommend you to all of my friends! Really thank you so much, dear Adriana! :)
Yes, I am leading a team retreat in a week in a public school district with our department heads. I anticipate this being a great way to start the meeting!
Yes, that was really the easiest way of motivating the people and connecting the team...Yes I tried this in many times in my workshop, as you said it was really cheerful to watch...the real smile of others...they feel great at each other...
I love to see how team members motivate each other. This is one of my favourite team building exercises. Nothing better than seeing the warm smiles of your team once the exercise is completed. Thanks for watching! Cheers!
I'm giving a presentation about positive school culture in a Master's course that I am taking and I am going to use this as an example of what team building looks like in a positive culture. Thank you!
Hi Adriana, what a creative, fun exercise! Very powerful for team meetings. I also facilitate team meetings for organizations and use a similar exercise. Instead of ponchos, I use stick notes. The feeling people get when they read the positive things others have to say about them is so freeing! Thank you for sharing. Will be checking out more of your videos! And subbing! BTW, I love your smile and energy!
Hi Buife, thanks for the great feedback. The poncho exercise is one of my favorites and I love watching the reactions of the teams faces when they start reading their poncho. Thanks for subbing and have a great day! Cheers!
Great team building activity. I have actually participated in this activity once and it was so nice to read all those positive comments that people wrote. Would definitely recommend this team building activity!
I loved this exercise! I will definitely be trying this out in the future. It is neat how it is quite a physical exercise as well (wearing the ponchos) and it is something they can keep after. Thank you for sharing.
It's a team building activity that everyone will really enjoy. It's wonderful to see those that choose to keep their poncho as a reminder. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I have a presentation to do for a team meeting so my question is would this be appropriate for me to do before a HR presentation on 2024 employee survey?
Hi @nicholsrebecca2, this would be a great way to get everyone engaged prior the the survey. Thanks for watching and hope everyone enjoys the activity if you decide to do it. Wishing you all the best. Cheers!
This looks like a lot of fun and I hope to use it in the future. It looks like a great way to get team members interacting positively and then bringing that to our customers. Thank you!
Hi Adriana, this is terrific, thanks for sharing! Just 1 question: we have 3 new team members (out of 18 people), I am afraid they could not feel "included" doing this activity, as it will be difficult to have someone writing something "on" them. What would you suggest? I was thinking to extend the idea to also "wishes for the future", so that if you don't have nothing to thank for, you can wish him/her something.
@@AdrianaGirdler Thank you Thank you, it was marvelous. I took a photo with them in their ponchos and then a photo of them as they were reading their messages. The smiles were a joy. While writing messages on each other, there was much laughter. So, Thank you
Hey I really love this concept of telling people in a team why you appreciate them, I work in Scotland and it's quite different here where we aren't really into telling people how we feel and more reserved (I also work in engineering which is even more difficult to get people to talk about their feelings), is there a more subtle way of doing your poncho flipchart?
Hi Jasmine, I completely understand where you are coming from as I have come from engineering myself. To start the process you can begin by giving everyone an appreciation card from yourself. This is something personal from you to them and it's important you are confident about it. When you feel like the team is ready you can do a Round Robin appreciation. So what happens is everyone writes an appreciation card for the person to their right. Everyone takes the time to quietly read their card and then they move on and the key is to not talk about it. This is a good way to slowly ease the team into eventually doing the poncho exercise. Hope this is helpful and thank you so much for taking the time to tune in. Cheers!
I love this one too! Perhaps a Shared Drive with an Excel file and each tab is one person's name. Your team goes in each tab and leaves their message?!?! Let me know what works out best for you. Cheers!
Love this exercise, Adriana! i have done where participants write letters to each other with positive words before. The outcome was amazing. This activity you shared is something I will give it a go! Thanks!
Thank you, Hazriq! I really like the idea of writing letters with positive words:) Hope you and your team enjoy doing this exercise. Thanks for watching! Cheers!
I love this idea! When someone writes on the back do they sign their name or leave it anonymous? Also, do u have any ideas for something to write on the front? Maybe after taking it off? ❤
Thank you! I think that signing the name could be left up to each individual or who ever is running the session can decide with the group if they want to sign names or leave it anonymous. As far as the front, maybe each person could write what they are grateful for as it relates to work or the team they work with. Thanks for watching, cheers!
