My dad was a pigeon fancier. Those birds are highly intelligent and can be very interactive in our activities. They are devoted to their favorite people. Very good judges of character ❤😊
Its so amazing how they can learn and plot routes. Hate to see the city pigeons cast aside by society, seen as pests and scavenging around humans for food

My dad cut down a tree in our back yard years ago and two baby pigeons were nesting in it so I raised them until they could fly. The mum and dad were always hanging about so I would put them in the garden everyday in a open box until one day one flew away with the mother. Then a few days later the second one flew. I believe they made a new home in a neighbours back yard and after all these years they still come to my yard for feeding everyday, its the least we can do for destroying their home. They're a big family now, at least 10 of them.

Frankly, I don't think they are THAT intellingent - there's definitely smarter birds than pigeons - but they are certainly very social, friendly and loyal. I like them and I hate when people consider them pests or even hurt them.

Most city pigeons are infected with disease that contagios to humans. With weak immune system, it's very dangerous game to play. Not to mention they feed on the garbage. Unless you are a bird expert, do not attempt to heal a visibly sick bird or take in baby birds. Please. Some people make mistakes by taking in fledglings that are learning how to fly and separate them from the parents.
Rats are also amazing animals, which makes it all the funnier when people makes that comparison and act as if it's negative. I miss my pet rats. Domesticated rats are so loving, cuddly, and smart.

My family rescued a pigeon nearly 20 years ago, we still have that pigeon. He is such a loving bird, plays tough pigeon with us, will sit on our shoulders, he talks to us when he hears us, or we come close to his cage. Love that pigeon, we had 2 other pigeons before that others rescued and thought we were a rescue. Thankfully we were able to find a rescue shelter for those other 2 pigeons.

I have robins, blue Jays, snow birds, cardinals, blackbirds ,yellow /gold finches and a type of white pigeon , they go through a large bag of bird seed weekly , and bring my heart so much joy♥️
I tell my children I'm going to New York and sit on a park bench and feed the birds there joining all the other elderly women.

I used to work with seabirds. I found Cormorants to be very interactive and have so much personality. I have always liked pigeons. Such a lovely story, this.

This is one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen. I rescued two wild doves and they are literally my best friends. I tried to release them but they just wouldn't leave and I am okay with that. Once wild birds take to people that's it. You can't release them. It's very very awesome and heartwarming that you chose to keep her. She seems to be extremely happy and that's all that matters. I'm sure you'll give her a great life. God bless you. There needs to be more animal lovers in the world like us.

Now I feel even better about feeding them at the beach. I give them salt free nuts, sunflower seeds, etc. Fed them a warm day in winter once, feet felt warm looked down and there were like sixty of them on my feet.

Pigeons get such a bad rep. They are such intelligent birds and have helped humans out throughout history. We do cast aside animals as humans, like foxes. They are really friendly intelligent creatures and yet we hunt them for fun and call them vermin

When I was 6, in the Bronx a nearly white, injured pigeon landed in our yard. My dad knew pigeons. He knew they'd return if they were hungry, that they can't see at night.
He nursed him back to health, but he had no inclination to leave us. We were his flock but subject to HIS rules. He pecked at my friends feet he threw corn & grain at us if we played too loud. He flew to my classroom window. It was hard to convince my classmates he was really mine. He'd fly into our house, sit on my head. I never knew if he liked me or liked bullying me. Incredibly smart. Sadly, one day, he never returned. We doubt he left of his own free will.

I'm so glad to hear her say they are family. Animals really can be family members. They're emotionally intelligent creatures that can feel pain and joy and suffer depression and morning when someone in their life dies. Even when all their other needs are met (food, shelter, affection, etc), they still MORN the loss of those they care about. People think that animals are dumb, unintelligent, and just a step up from a "moving rock", but they're so much more than that. Every one of them is an individual with their own feelings, preferences, and personalities. All animals. People prefer to pretend otherwise so they don't feel so bad about paying for their lives to be ended for a meal. A meal that they'll forget about the next day. Animals deserve much more than to end up as poo in your toilet from a five minute meal that you barely remember. Stop paying for the suffering and death of animals - keep them off your plate and choose the vegan option.
I agree with every word of yours. I pray all day everyday for all suffering animals and people. I pray for people to see precious animals with dignity and compassion deserving of all our love and care.

They are victims of a misinformation campaign from councils and pest control companies that has caused so much harm. Pigeons don't hurt anyone, they have very hard lives and they suffer because of our fault.
i have a house-pigeon, named horus, & he's in love with my teenage son. horus loves us all & cuddles with us & loves lots of attention. his favorite, though, by far, is my son. pigeons are such smart & caring birds, i wish people would treat them kindly.

I used to catch n release injured or sick pigeons in city I used to work in too..they are very underestimated, they are soo smart n can recognise themselves in a mirror!! They are lovely little birds 🥰
Guys who love animals = the right person. Pigeons are really fun to keep as a hobby and it's too bad not many kids are interested in them these days. I suppose they can't compare to virtual reality. There are over 500 breeds of domestic pigeons! There is something so neat about being able to let them out to fly and seeing them come home on their own.

They're amazingly smart birds and highly trainable. A guy where i used to live had a company that raised and trained pigeons and hawks for some kind of government work. The bird house on his property had to be 10,000 sq feet. It was always enjoyable to watch a flock of his birds going out on training missions, or returning from one. As far as the "government" work, I don't know that first hand, but that's what his closest neighbors told me?????
I had a pet pigeon when I was a kid . they make great pets. We would let it outside and it would fly all over the Nieghborhood and always come back and fly into the window . he would land on our heads and hang out by our pool. He adopted us on a cold winter day followed me and my sister home and flew into the door when we opened it.
