- "These foolish Things remind me of You" is a 1935 golden standard with lyrics by Eric Maschwitz, head of Variety at the BBC, writing under the pseudonym Holt Marvell, and with music by Jack Strachey, both of them Englishmen. It is one of a group of "Mayfair songs", like "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square". Popular versions in the USA in 1936 were by the great Benny Goodman's Orchestra and Teddy Wilson, with Billie Holiday on vocals. It's a super organ player's song with lyrical cadence and flow, and marvelous harmonies galore. It's still Summer here in the suburbs, at 86 degrees, on 9/3/2022. "Life is Good" when we pull these old evergreens out of the steamer trunk in the attic and play them again, like they used to be played. "Hammondized" for full flavor and goodness. Drawbars are cool, baby, since 1934. Weekend ..... 😎🌴🌴🎹
Out of the hundreds of videos and songs Mike uploaded over the years, not a single one fails to make me smile and feel happy, even on the darkest of days. What a special gift this man imparted on the world for those who find it. Rest in Peace, Mike.
Mike's gone and I will miss these posts terribly. But isn't it wonderful that some of his catalogue of performance is preserved here on UA-cam for other folks to enjoy and learn from? He'll be remembered and enjoyed by folks who, like me, me never met or knew him - his ministry continues.
Mike has passed away and we all suffer a major loss. What an amazing talent.

Just learned that Mike passed away and I'm heartbroken. It's been a while since I've had any of his videos come up in my recommended. I always enjoy them immensely. And "These Foolish Things," Mike's last upload, is one of my all-time favorite songs. Thank you for all of the enjoyment you have brought so many, Mike. I'll miss hearing that beautiful Hammond and looking foreword to new uploads. Good news is you're now keeping everyone entertained with that great Hammond up in the sky...

I LOVE listening to you Mike!
While mesmerised, the musical tones of the Hammond organ found a place in my heart. It came to mind I must fix my music machine. The slow beat awoke the snare drum while my eyes became over-hydrated. I was tired, but I continued to enjoy music to my ears as the gentle rhythm played with the musical notes in harmony. Teary eyes threatened to flush my cheeks, but I could not see a reason as I perused the comments. Sadness entered my mind's eye, mixed with tears of joy, as I read of Mike Reed's passing. I realised I was also sad. Although Mike is no longer in the land of the living, there is solace in knowing his music will play well into the future as his legacy.
