    Whenever i track a wounded animal i ALWAYS have a live round in the chamber and safety on.. as long as you practice muzzle control you are fine.. the 3 seconds you lose to have to chamber a round versus a split second kill is what i do to ensure any pain and suffering from a wounded critter is over asap

    Stands to reason, that if you are seeing/shooting yotes on your way to the downed deer .... chances are close to 100% that they were chewing on it! I was not in the least surprised ..... it was just a matter of how much damage they/it did. I've only had to do one next day recovery on a deer that I shot (bow) at last light and in the rain. The buck was recovered within 20 yards of were I stopped looking the night before. The deer made a "j" hook to watch it's back trail and expired right there (heart shot overhead through right side -- quartering towards the left leg). I first saw movement towards my left, which turned out to be a skunk that had just arrived before me ..... he was starting to chew at the entrance hole ..... thanks for the "tail flagging" Mr Skunk! I found several pieces of the aluminum arrow shaft while trailing the night before. The broadhead lodged in the upper left leg which I warned the butcher that I had not found the broadhead yet. I was really worried that a yote would find it, or worse .... wolves. Many nights I've listened to the yotes yipping and yapping it up from that direction ~8^) Take care HUSH crew ..... glad you guys recovered almost all of that deer.

    I love the commitment of the Hush crew. But I’ve got to say one thing. Outlaw needs to spend some time at the range. Shooting long distance. This is not the first time he made a bad shot. I understand that nobody’s perfect. Myself included. However, learning from your shortcomings and taking the initiative to make yourself better is very important. Great buck and great effort from the hush crew.

    • @gethushin
      @gethushin  5 років тому +11

      The amount of judgement on the internet is pretty amazing. Jared's shot was good enough to kill that buck within a short period of time. He was dead as we hiked out...but we decided not to risk following the blood trail based on how thick the terrain was. Had it been daylight everyone would have said, "great shot dude" because we'd have found in shortly there after.
      It was 300 yards. The rifle was zeroed in on that and its far from a "long" shot. It was slightly back but that buck only ran 120 yards and died. By all accounts if you were out with your buddies hunting you've have marked that one down as a success.

    • @michaelbroadhead8155
      @michaelbroadhead8155 5 років тому

      @@gethushin, maybe you should have just let him bed for the night since you knew where he was and not shot. Come back the next morning and get him then. And I beg to differ with "Outlaw" (stupid name), he's not going to eat every ounce of that deer. The coyotes got at least 10lbs if they ate its ass.

    • @oldgrowth2777
      @oldgrowth2777 5 років тому +2

      Good enough is a slippery slope. My point was that he didn’t make a great shot. And the need to be a great shooter is equally as important as having a rifle that can hit the intended target.

    • @Sandz_
      @Sandz_ 5 років тому +1

      @@gethushin I have to respectfully disagree. In my opinion, 300 yards is a long shot for the average joe. I fully understand your comment and recognize the relativity in speaking about "long range" but we need to make sure we're talking apples to apples - especially when doing so via a public medium which inexperienced and impressionable people will use to absorb information.
      I would caution anyone attempting 300+ yard shots to reconsider unless you've honed your skills at those ranges and have a rifle setup that can do it consistently. I've seen WAY too many people buy a $250 rifle, $100 scope, and $16 box of bullets then attempt 500 yard shots at moving animals after a quick bore sighting from their local outdoor store. As hunters, we can do better than that.
      To be clear, I'm not saying Outlaw or the Hushin crew have done any of the above, I'm just pointing out that saying things like "300 yards is far from long range" can be misunderstood SO easily without ample context. When in a position of influence, you need to be careful with this kind of stuff, even if it's annoying to constantly justify and explain.
      But what do I know, I'm just a random guy - who cares what I think, anyway.
      Merry Christmas to you and yours.

    Must teach then to ALWAYS USE A VERY SHARP KNIFE!!!, it make it safer and easier to butcher the meat. Using a blunt knife is more dangerous to any as they use to much force to cut meat and then they slip, its all down hill after that and it happens very fast too.

    I shoot every coyote or wolf i see during deer season.. the way i look at it is if i kill the predator, the deer may live to next season..
    One year i was glassing and a big female cougar was in a semi crouch, wiggling her arse.. she was gonna make me her next supper.. killed her with the 243.. made her into gams, smokies and a nice tanned hide..
    I love deer and elk, sometimes you gotta kill a pred to save an ungulate..
    My hunting buddies hate it when i kill coyotes while deer hunting... whatever

    You gut shoot a beautiful deer at dark and then leave it to die a slow and painful death so you can have daylight for your camera.

      Yea he gut shot the shit out of it for sure. But they did the right thing by backing out and giving it time and not pushing it. Don’t compound one mistake with another by pushing it and losing it.
