  • Our 1979 Cat D3 dozer isn't engaging the right steering clutch. Upon inspection, it looks like rust, oil, as well as wear and tear have made the clutches not work. Project will be updated as I get parts and tools. Thanks for watching!

Keep up the good work on the dozer , personally I find working on machinery/engines frustrating but very rewarding working things out and like you said funds are tight for alot of people these days so don't have much choice but to get stuck in and do things your self.wish you all the best with your project hope you and your family are doing good and stay safe when you're working those fires

Thanks, bud. Yall, too! Definitely got to save what money we can. Crop wasn't planted this year so you can see the fields in the rear laid dormant.

Oh boy! I have a 75 which I need to disassemble to figure out what is going on the right steering clutch. I wish you were close as I would help!

😂 Projects Project projects. Hope you find out you don't need a new clutch pack. Maybe it's just the slave cylinder.

Great video! I've recently bought and old d6 4r, and I found the left steering clutch is stuck. I will try with diesel first. WIll you upload the 2nd part of this video?

You have a dry clutch? I haven't gotten around to taken the clutches off yet, been busy with work and it's been extremely hot. I should've parked just under the shelter at my shop 🤣. But I'll be doing it soon and I will record the 2nd part.

@@Wildland_Firefighter I will wait your video! haha. Yes, it's the same mechanism that you show in the video, dry clutch. But I have found that the left compartment of my machine, where the clutch and brake drum are, was filled with some oil and a bit of water maybe some leak of other fluid. And that left clutch is stucked cause of the rust I think. I'm new in this world, I'm learning about the cat, but many people advice me to drain that compartment and fill it with diesel and try running the dozer with the left clutch lever tied to try to unstuck it. Sorry for my english, I'm from Argentina, and as I said I bought this machine 3-weeks ago so I'm learning about it.

Nice video mate! I have a simlar model d3b with dry clutches and brakes, had the same problem u did, yes the diesel fuel worked to help getting them unstuck but the disc failed couple hours later. I ended up pulling both of mine steering packs and upgrading the the all metal disc instead of the fiber ones, big difference! Steers much better especially with the new brake lining! I also sealed my tops covers gud and added a 1/4" drilled hole to my drains plugs and installed small washers on inside with a cotter pin thru it that helps to drain any moisture. Thanks Nate
