The man rescued the bird, but I think the bird might have rescued the man too.
I went through this when I lost my Maxi Pionus and family found me another Maxi to love. We rescued each other. He needed me and I needed him.
I think him getting another bird was the best thing he could do. It's so, so healing for the psyche to fill that gap your beloved pet left, with love, hope and care for another being. Sadly, I'm speaking from experience.. when I lost my cat Gogi I filled that void with dedication for a little sad rescue kitten, and she's the best, all grown up now and we love eachother to death.

I'm not. Wildlife sanctuary exist not for pet purposes. This bird will lost the fear of human n it will be hard for this bird to successfully rehabilitate

He’s taking him to the vet like he said, so if Tou’s in any pain they’ll give him something for it. But he seems fine in the video! Just needs some TLC
Linday Mohegan I know. I always feel bad for animals when they go to a new home, because they can’t understand. I especially feel like this for birds, because their attachment is SO strong. I’m just SO glad he’s with someone who will give him a wonderful life full of love!

GamE FrEak This toucan is obviously a “rescue” toucan. Tupac wouldn’t last a week in the wild due to the conditions and his knees + health issues. I doubt he’ll be in the home until he’s cured. :)

@@WelcometoChickenlandia in india we get raw turmeric and powder too.. But raw turmeric is best.. I grinded them to powder.. Next took some small pinch.. If we apply more it will be burning sensation.. To dilute it mix some cocanut or gingelly oil and add some water to form paste...then apply slowly.. Beacause rooster dintlike it...
@@WelcometoChickenlandia sometimes we too apply on swollen legs or pain or injury..turmeric is antiseptic which kill germs and also act as quick healer... Quick first aid... Our ancient ladies used to apply on body after bath.. It act as natural hair remover.. When it used again and again. Hair follicle vanishes..
NAVEEN RAJ I take it daily! It’s great stuff. I mostly use natural remedies for my chickens so I’ll definitely keep this in mind.
Be extremely careful giving any sort of medical advice. Chickens are MUCH different than other birds. For example, chickens can benefit a lot from a little eucalyptus oil, and is recommended for cleaning out chicken coops as a natural way to kill mites, but it is very toxic to parrots. Likewise, cats don't pose a significant biohazard risk to most birds, but their saliva will kill ducks and geese!
Toucans are so specialized, that even a tiny bit of dietary iron is deadly to them. So please do keep that in mind, what's good for a chicken might wind up killing Toupac!

Toupac seems to me he acts like Ripley in the way of curiosity. Hes curious about his new surroundings and it seems to me he is starting to trust you a bit.
Toucans are broadly similar in behavior, much like most of these type of bird. Its expected he'll show curious and inquisitive behavior and probably affection and playful behavior too. Thats just how bird do.

Rescue birds are amazing. I have a 57 year old bg macaw and its incredibly to watch and get to be apart of their turn around. Such a sweet boy!

The issue with his knee looks similar to a condition my ducks get called bumblefoot.
Its a staph infection caused by an abrasion, usually from stepping on something or rough ground. Pet Ducks typically get it when they live indoors as they get a cut, and don't have free access to water to clean the wound (they also tend to have a greater amount of bacteria on their skin, than birds who can freely bath). A vet normally treats the infection by draining and disinfecting the wound.
Toupac may be having a similar issue. If his wings were clipped and he was living on the ground; that's not typical for a Toucan and could have caused the damage. If the vet his previous owner took him to was very familiar with birds, they may not have been too concerned with what looks like a sore.
What I do to treat the condition (though, always take your bird to the vet).
I soak their feet in water with Epsom Salt (making sure they do not drink any) and massage them for about five minutes.
Then I give them a bath.
After their bath, I put Neosporin on the wound, and place the bird on a clean pillow until it dries it's feathers.
I do this twice daily until the scab falls off, then continue once a day until the duck is walking normal again.
You may be able to try something similar with Toupac until you get to the vet (however, I'm not sure if Tucans would have any issues with Epsom Salt, or Neosporin).

I am so pleased to see you rescue. It would appear that you need each other. Those look like calluses on the knees. The vet will be able to tell and his perching muscles are likely a little weak. Great job and thank ya'll for sharing this journey with us.

A nail buffer would be perfect for helping his beak. It's nice and gentle with a very fine grit. He's looking so handsome!
No... He shouldn't do that as they, the toucan, will do it their selves; smoothing a beak for a toucan will make them flip out for days they are super sensitive.
@@mrpotat680 that can definitely happen, and that's true for all birds. I should have clarified to do it little by little just for the worst parts (where it's absolutely necessary). They should be introduced to the file beforehand as well - put the file down so they can inspect it on their own to learn that it's not scary. It takes time and patience but it can be done little by little on areas that require it. Never aggressively file or file the entire beak. The only areas that should get a super light buffing are areas that can get snagged on things. Think of it as a hang nail for fids. The goal is to help, not beautify. Done properly (which we all know he will because he's experienced and patient) the bird will be just fine. You just have to go about it the right way. Every bird owner should introduce their bird to a buffer / file and keep one in their birdy emergency kit just in case. Sometimes it's a necessary evil.
@@MelissaHarrispuffubble Well although it's seems so, toupac's beak isn't too bad. Little bit of palm butter, or ointment can help soften up the top layer.
