This was definitely just racing. I raced expert back in the day (80s/90s) and it happened all the time to riders on the far inside if you didn't get the holeshot and an outside rider had the edge and cut over;. As you pointed out, Connor was still going straight while the lead rider had the line and setup to carve the berm. Connor wasn't on the right line due to his bobble on that second jump. He shouldn't have been in a manual coming down that back side into the first turn.. he was essentially turning too late which resulted in the contact.
Having raced then as well if you had an outside gate(lane 7 or8) and got a start you were coming over. He gave Conner room if Conner hit the jumps correctly. Racing incident and i have been on both sides of it
Absolutely agree that the leader gets to choose there racing line so for this reason it’s majority Connors fault. The leader was super aggressive going from the outside to the inside that quickly though which is partly to blame. Really no ones fault as this is racing at its most competitive level.
I wholeheartedly disagree. I live 20 min from SC track and we race all the time. NO one, especially in the Pro class EVER cuts down like that going in to the bowl off the start. Way to easy to take yourself out. Not to mention he’s taking a tighter line BY cutting down which will cause to him to have to brake a little to negotiate the bowl. You never want to have to brake in the bowl if you don’t have to. This was 100% an on purpose move by the French. If it was not Connor Fields, contact wouldn’t have been made.
When its the olympics you take every inch you can get. Romain did what everyone gets taught. Shut the door. Connors mistakes costed him. Romain did what he was there to do, race. Connor put himself in a bad position, sucks that it ended the way it did, but thats racing.
The other person is right, when you have a gap, you IMMEDIATLEY close it. It was great riding by connor and romain, but if they were to switch, connor would do the exact same.
As someone who races supercross on a international level, it definitely wasn’t on purpose, it was aggressive, but not too aggressive and definitely not on purpose. Rome wouldn’t have to brake in the corner from that line
Good analysis. Initially my brother and I thought that this was payback from the Phoenix opener. Connor shut the door and high-sided Mahieu turn 1 in one of the motos and he was pissed. It's all BMX though.
But it is. As I said in the video, he over manualed going into the corner and couldn't follow the racing line the everyone else was taking. In reality mahieu left a decent amount of room on the inside most likely expecting him to go low, but since connor couldn't turn he continued straight on. I was trying to be nice in the video about saying that it's not really anyone's fault in particular, but if we were trying to put the blame somewhere it would almost fully land on connor if not completely.
They both were technically at fault, Connors was a skill error while mahieus was a visual error. But people like to put the blame on someone, and the fault mainly landed on connor. Not saying it totally his.

Great comment to read while watching the explanation of the video, very interresting thank you.
Cheers from France

Its nobody's fault. Non intentional. Just the dark side of BMX. Recover soon CF 💪🏼

OH IT WAS 100% PAY BACK IF THAT WAS A GUY THAT HAD HISTORY OF CRASHES WITH CONNOR
@@atv55803 dude your clearly a troll
He didn’t overshoot it the manual he landed the manual perfectly and if he pulled the brakes he would’ve slowed down any would’ve been last anyway
If you actually open your eyes he definitely over manualed and overshot the last 2 obstacles.
Connor doesn’t ride with his finger on his brake. He’s a good guy. Hope that he recovers soon
Excellent analysis, thank you.
It's sad to see him lose the chance of winning 2 golds but the second he over jumped the obstacle he was mentally off
His name is Carlos Ramirez
Thank you!
[before i watched video] looked like he just over jumped and they caught him
Da going so quick in a split second he can’t just think or I’m gonna take that inside line once he has chosen a line yet at there is no changing it
If you had actually paid attention to what I said you wouldn't be making this comment

Break down
thank you, must have been typing to fast
Connor kinda took out Anthony dean the Moto before hand anyways
Connors fault that bull it’s no one’s fault it’s part of racing

It’s all racing it doesn’t matter who’s fault it is it’s all about racing so shut up
You don’t know
@@sheluvsqt it does matter tho just in case they made a judgment to DQ mahieu. Its important
Bring back orange clay berms!!
#noasphalt
Eww no
Way too much pausing
Well it's a frame by frame analysis. I'm not here to show off the crash, I'm explaining what happened.
That’s literally the entire point of the video - to make enough time to explain what happened. I found it interesting and informative.
