I wached sunday bloody sunday, bieng filmed as it was filmed in my square and my house featured in it although only briefly my front door was painted a dark blue then although i had forgotten that as it was shot in 1970 and the film was released during 1971, and i actualky got to talk to the actor Peter Finch who starred in this film, he was waiting opposite my house between takes, also Glenda Jackson was there on location as well, both fine actors in their day!
Interesting actor. His role in this film is that of a taker -- a self-centered love interest (of two people) but he manages to do it with charm and a certain degree of sensitivity. Good performance.
Two stories: 1) During a screening for the film's cast, crew, and family, a woman SCREAMED at the sight of the kiss. John Schlesinger was angry at the disruption and said, "Who was THAT!?" But someone said from the darkness, "No worries, John. It was just Peter's wife." 2) I first saw the film in a suburban theatre on Long Island with a mostly Black audience--where responses are a big part of their church culture. When the kiss was shown a woman shouted, "MY FATHER!!!" Male-male kisses to this day seem to unhinge some people of all races. In Harvey Fierstein's "Torch Song Trilogy" movie the kisses were extremely brief before cutting away but I listened to some older women in the lobby voicing their discomfort to their friends. We have a long way to go.
He is indeed delightful. Happy I found it here cause I saw the movie back in the seventies...but the kiss scene was not there! It was cut! LOL. Nice to see him again. Remember him in The Family wayt too. And as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar.
I saw the movie in Montreal, and the kiss was left in and I don't remember that it was a big issue. Montreal, even in the 70's was an amazing place. I will always remember my time there with affection.
Punch a guy in the mouth and nobody bats an eyelash. Kiss a guy, though, and suddenly it's like the world is coming to an end. Give me a break.

Me2 it's just that the character was too young for those things to really matter yet. He simply wasn't truly in love with either of his affairs.
