Almost look like your out in the mouth of "the arm". Good days fishing. I bought one of those Chinese diesel heaters for my buck bus conversion and it works great. I'm going to be camping out in my pop up at the Long Lake Derby this weekend. Going to give the diesel heater a test on the ice.
I was hoping you’d do another ice video this winter - I check your site, time to time...this was excellent! I bet it makes up for last time with the slush fest.
Joe holland if. You don't. Want. To put an 8 inch hole in the ice. To check the ice. Thickness there is a drill adapted ice auger. That only puts a 2.5 in hole in the ice it's made. For. Checking the ice Thickness
@@JoeHollandFishing I like them pan fried. My neighbor likes to brine and smoke them. They come in off Lake Michigan and they are big. Probably average 22- 26 inches it's madness in December 👍
@@paulmazurkiewicz3089 yes we do. We fish for salmon in the Milwaukee harbor from June to late August then fish the tributaries from September to October. We also fish for rainbows from December to April in the same tributaries. Loads of fun!
Just bought an Eskimo 450 xd to do my own ice camping because of last years video's and these new ones. Thanks for your awesome video's. Just a couple of questions, what are the dimensions for the floor you now have, how is it made and what lumber was used?
Thank you. My friend and I made it from pine that we milled. The boards as a full inch thick and are strapped underneath with the same. The dimensions of the shack are really wonky because it has four oval walls at the base but there is a three foot section simply added between two of the bigger sections.
I just wanted to say the videos are fantastic love them. I have to ask do you still bass fish? I loved watching the average Joe journey from getting the new boat to the last tournament. Keep it up sir.
Thank you. I’ve pretty much given up on the open water and tournament fishing for now, I’m super busy with business during that season so I only have ice season to try and catch up. Appreciate it my friend, thank you.
Love that laker That ran!! Love your excitement!! Great work. Thanks for sharing. By the way how do you charge your electrics out camping? I might need to look into that Garmin for next season. Thanks. Bob
I’m getting frustrated watching your auger keep freezing up. I had the same one for one day and returned it . Lot of money for something that has issues . Got the ion and couldn’t be happier. Wayyy lighter too
How do you keep your bait alive for all those days on such cold weather ? Also how many dozen did you bring for that trip snd was it a mix of shiners ? Big golden shiners and chubs or ?
Hi Joe, was hoping to get some advice from you on heating an insulated Eskimo 949i with a mr buddy propane heater. I live in Dover Foxcroft but will be using the pop up as a camping tent just above Moosehead week of 13NOV2022. How much propane do you go through in a night? I know it’s all relative to the temp but I shouldn’t be dealing with anything near like during ice fishing. Only plan to run the heater at night and probably on low. I have a 30LB tank from a camper that I am hoping will be enough, thoughts????
I don’t use a lot of propane or heat. My cold tolerance is super high so I basically take the chill off in the morning and night and shut it down at night while sleeping most nights.on a super cold night I might leave it on low most of the night. A 20lber will last a week for me, on the coldest of trips like when it was -40+ f a tank lasted over 3 days . Hope that helps. Good luck on the trip.
I thought it was great, firm, white, and a little sweet. Closest thing to compare would be a less bogey version of pike or pickerel I guess for firmness and taste .
Honestly I brought up too much food, moose and deer meat, and had whitefish and brook trout too. I do like lake trout and have nothing against testing them but I didn’t want to be wasteful. Next trip might be moosehead and I’ll eat some there.
@@JoeHollandFishing And I noticed you were having a problem with fish freezing when you did keep them...Solution: if you pack them in a heap of snow it insulates them from the surrounding air and keeps them from freezing up solid. I still would've kept at least one of those lakers though. Take that sucker home and smoke it.
@@JoeHollandFishing To be totally honest...Smoked sucker is good, kind of like whitefish when smoked, but has LOTS of bones. Best off to can them. Bones basically dissolve during the canning process. But when I said "Take that sucker home and smoke it", I was referring to one of the Lake Trout. But canned sucker is actually really good. 1/8 teaspoon liquid smoke, 1/2 Teaspoon canning salt in each pint jar before processing and it's delicious. Some folks add 1 TBS ketchup and 1/2 tsp canning salt in each pint. I've had it that way and it's really good too. And to be honest, if I didn't take the lakers home and smoke them, I'd be canning them. Shelf stable and an easy lunch. Just open a jar and make an easy trout salad sandwich. Or just east it out of the jar with some good bread or crackers. I've even had some "sweet and sour" canned sucker before that was incredible.
@@JoeHollandFishing I go all the time in vermont, they get to be 30 inches and put a great fight, and taste SUPER good! You really should go to a walleye lake and try it!
It’s actually a challenge especially with those low temps and an uninsulated bucket. I changed the water a lot and kept a battery aerator going and chipped out the ice as much as possible. I also took the bucket in the tent at night , not that it did a lot but every bit helps.
Can’t wait to see you guys slay some brookies! And thanks for the love!
Awesome videos man can’t for wait fo the next episode
Great video Trappa Joe, I love it! That’s some high tech fishing, wicked cool and seems to take the guess work out of it in regards to depth.
Yessir I’m still learning a little on this particular unit but once it’s dialed in it can be a weapon.
Busted out laughing when you were mocking that whitefish love the videos
Great video's. It is clear that you enjoy and appreciate the outdoors and respect nature.

Very cool let us know how you like it.
Love seeing the optics footage. Crazy how advanced they are now
For sure, thank you. I shot a crappie fishing video with more advanced filming of it
Haven’t seen a good whitefish bite in there in a while! Makes me wanna go
Let me know I’ll drop everything.
Looks like a great day buddy!
So much fun, thanks again.

Yeah I’ve seen that thing I guess it does work for the intended job but it’s another piece of gear you gotta haul
@JoeHollandFishing totally understand. Doesn't take up much room something to maybe look into
We catch Whitefish off the pier up here in Michigan. It's elbow to elbow fishing when they run ! Great eating fish 🐟

Those one I just made

A mix for sure. Aerators and changing the water are the keys to keeping them alive.
I would love to have one of them lake trout to bake in the oven

What size are those bibs I am a 350 pounder from Minnesota love your videos
Bibs 3xl should be good or very close to fit, jacket Id go a size up.

I thought it was great, firm, white, and a little sweet. Closest thing to compare would be a less bogey version of pike or pickerel I guess for firmness and taste .
What the garmin you are using and what what mode are you in when your watching fish in real time ?
The Garmin Panoptix Livescope
Hey Joe, Are you from Maine? What are you using to jig with?
Yes from Maine, I use so many different jigs . This one may have been a rippin rap from Rapala.
Great videos Joe, did you do these videos on the AWW.
Thank you! yes
What do you use for a battery on your Panoptix? The factory one doesn't last very long when ice camping.
I have a 32 amp hour lithium and the factory one as a backup.
@@JoeHollandFishing does the amped 32 fit in the garmin bag?
Yes it does. It’s the shorter fat one, same size as the stock Garmin battery,
@@JoeHollandFishing Thank you for taking the time to answer!
Hard time finding jackets bibs that fit because iam big and beautiful large and in charge
I hear ya, The 3xl should be good or close for bibs, maybe a size up for the jacket then.
What are you using for a fish finder?
I’ve switched to Garmins Panoptix Livescope but still use the lowrance Hook2 7 from time to time.
Blows my mind that you didn't keep one of those lakers to eat.

Are you using a 10” auger
Yes, the ten inch strikemaster.
Why’s the bait water blue ?
An additive they use at the bait shop for the health of the minnows
How much leader u using on tipups for lakers rainbows and salmon
I base my fluorocarbon leader length entirely on the depth I’m fishing. In general though I go about six to eight feet.
@@JoeHollandFishing thanks boy I use half that
Cool yeah it totally depends on depth and also water clarity for me. Thanks again for tuning in.
@@JoeHollandFishing thanks joe I did all mine wings spand length with 10 and floral
Longer leaders catch more fish
What’s the blue water for ?
Blue water in the bucket has some nutrients and anti algae stuff for the shiners.
Is that something I can buy?
Yes, I forgot the name but they sell it all wal mart too.
Should of just kept that laker. All that bleeding killed it
Man they are pretty tough.
