Thank you for this video. I've always had a deep fascination for subjective experience. I realize I won't find the answer to the hard problem on a UA-cam video, but with the information put fourth by you and your guests, my mind is coming close to finding out what it all means for me. Thanks again and I wish you well Jeff.

It seemed as though when Stuart was describing the early organic molecules (he starts off with benzene ions) selecting a state, or circumstance, which produced pleasure or pain, (then perhaps survival or death) the initial favorable and perhaps conscious choice of the molecules was that of a coherence with other molecules. The pleasure (and thus survival) choice was that of extended coherence; increasing collective resonance with other molecules. In other words - consciously chosen creative, life giving, coherence (with All) is key to survival, complexity, evolution. Love.

The nature of consciousness and human existence was first discussed in the Upanishads and Vedas, the ancient texts of Hinduism believed to be written around 3000 BC , thousands of years before David Chalmers ever thought about the hard problem..

Dr. Hameroff's theory of Quantum evolution seems sound and actually jives with allot of Esoteric theory about the beginnings of the Universe that I have read. You guys should check out his "Toward a Science of Consciousness” conferences here on UA-cam they are really informative. This theory made me think somewhat of the Blavatsky series "Isis unveiled"....I am not much of a fan of Blavatsky but the Esoteric ideas she wrote about are similar to this theory in nature and she basically got it from Hindu cosmology. Great interview thank you.

Good video, I think how he describes the hard problem of consciousness really shows how Stuart Hameroff has a deep knowledge about consciousness. His theory is gaining new evidence and ground. Very good and informative video, thanks for posting this. :)

Looking forward to Stuart's latest work on the goal-seeking pleasure feedback fitness function and how that might scale to human consciousness. It might offer a powerful explanation of what we call evil - behavior that gives pleasure to the perpetrator. It is also explains most biological drives, physical and psychological (as well as my own sweet tooth). Conscious pleasure seeking and pain avoidance might fit (my specialty) Chardin's Hominization - the change of state when human became self aware and could plan forward and learn and teach each other. To scale it even further to the spiritual and reincarnation cycle - beings come here to pursue their own pleasure principle (was Freud on to something?) and to experience everything - cosmological view would be the unconscious universe wants the pleasure of being, seeing and feeling, e.g. self awareness. Good stuff again!

Hameroff and Penrose's theory of consciousness is by far leading edge work, though holography theory is only recently being mentioned by Hameroff. Many current physicists/cosmologists see both quantum mechanics and holography incorporation as essential. Also, in explaining consciousness what is needed is some statement as to the makeup of the psychic apparatus itself. This has been omitted in most of the discussions of consciousness, even those incorporating quantum mechanics. My work, and with Zoltan Batiz (see March issue of J. of NeuroQuantology), concerns the positing of a Schema QD as the mapping of the psychic structure accounting for inter- and intra-subjective dimensions. It also incorporates ethical/moral constructions as a component, and a statement of the nature of desire as being production following the work of Bergson as developed by Deleuze and Guattari. It is built on J. Lacan's model of Schema R, but devoid of many of the Freudian points of the nature of desire. It incorporates both quantum and holography theory particularly the notion of phase conjugation as accounting for producing, accessing, decoding and transmitting information. Everyday social reality constructions depend on QH dynamics. Take witness recollections for example. All with which we interact leaves a trace of our unique signature wave. Thus in accord with Hameroff and Chopra's work on the soul continuing past the physical death of the body. Thanks Stuart and Roger for the inspiration.

Hameroff/Penrose theories are most promising. While they postulate a critical mass of quantum interactions will result in conscious moments (bing!) we can suppose that a serious of conscious moments looks like consciousness itself. From a different point of view, if these conscious moments in sequence do not create consciousness, but access it, then we have unlimited potential for a spiritual world and transcendence. Bergson influenced Chardin who thought that self-awareness was the key to a sense of immortality - some kind of entanglement occurs at the point humans become self aware. If we go with Chardin, this is the point at which humans became separate from the animal kingdom, left the generalized specie form/consciousness/instinct for specific human form that results in transcendent individually, rather than specie-wide. Lynne McTaggart's The FIELD adds a non-local dimension for holographic memory/storage supported by the MRI-based quantum holography of Walter Schempp who proved that particles retain their whole history. My preliminary conclusions agree with Peter Novak that there are two parts to our consciousness - the here and now consciousness and the always consciousness resident in the zero point field/dimension. And once entanglement occurs it cannot be reversed (another finding by Hameroff).

For some, only humans possess Consciousness. There are others who think that not only humans, but also other animals, or even plants, possess consciousness. I am one of the first, and as such I consider that Consciousness makes us different from other living beings. Certainly, that Consciousness makes us different does not prevent us from recognizing how much we have in common with other living beings.
Explaining what Consciousness is requires explaining what makes us different from humans. Hence, it is not necessary to explain the paradigm of mental states with qualia, a common phenomenon in living beings with a brain.

Teological only in the sense of linear time from the perspective of left brain dominance where entropy is dominant as well. Right brain dominance meditation enables resonance with the quantum underground as longevity and immortality through the protoconsciousness of the Universe.

In my view the language of the universe is emotional.. The primal force is emotion not thought. Stuart Hameroff last words point to this that feelings are fundamental.. As for the hard problem in Quantum Physics it seem the hard part is that they are looking at the wrong end of the double slit experiment.. The ultimate collapse of the wave function is at the end of a chain of desire. What I call the ground of desire.. If you go backwards from the particle to the wave of probability that would be the natural light then back to what emits the light.. Then go to the electric current that is flowing along in the wires and back to the wall and back to the electrical generator for the whole system .. Every step along the way desire was used and human consciousness was entangled with this desire... And back further to those who desired to make the generator. This desire could be seen as a function of love perhaps.. Now if you use this same chain of desire on the creation of light from stars that are also the origin of matter you will see the same electro magnetism and flow of electrical current and back to an original desire, a primordial desire.. On a universal cosmic scale.. The origin of desire as a from of love.. In 2009 when they went looking for magnetic fields in space and around stars they found another astounding thing.. A hard problem for astrophysicist .. The saw a strong magnetic field that was as wide as a galaxy and stretched from one galaxy to another galaxy.. They continued to map this magnetic galactic connection and found that our galaxy was connected to a super cluster of galaxies... The hard problem for the astrophysicist was this...There is no such thing as a magnetic field in deep space without an electric current flowing.. So the same Ground Of Desire that can be traced back in the famous double slit experiment is the same Ground of Desire that is in operation and lighting every star and every galaxy in the universe... And in us desire or Will is preconscious and preconsciousness and preconscious-mess.. Observe your reaction or reply to this post without first having a desire... It can mot be done.. Desire to respond comes before the response. It may be quick and common but desire is in advance of thought. ..

This is fascinating! I think science may be on the verge of connecting the dots, merging objective and subjective (gonna be a hard pill for them to swallow) leading a vast Epiphany and shift in humankind perspective and the way we move forward, Perhaps it really is a threshold into a new age. Do you have and references to the study about the galaxies magnetic connection. I would love to read more about that

I still don't see how Hameroff has solved the "hard problem of consciousness." He uses labels such as the "interface" between the collapse of the wave function, an abstract concept in physics, and the material world we see once an observation is made. All this is is yet ANOTHER correlate of consciousness. Which type of collapse interface leads to the experience of the color green or red, or the taste of chocolate? All Hameroff has, ultimately, are CORRELATES of conscousness, with or without microtubules being involved in quantum processes in the brain.

One can look at the human brain as if it were an antenna. Perhaps the brain tunes in the Schumann (and related) frequency. Perhaps consciousness is heavenly.
"Within the frames of Alfven sweep maser theory the description of morphological features of geomagnetic pulsations in the ionosphere with frequencies (0.1-10 Hz) in the vicinity of Schumann resonance (7.83 Hz) is obtained. It is shown that the related regular spectral shapes of geomagnetic pulsations in the ionosphere determined by ”viscosity” and ”elasticity” of magneto-plasma medium that control the nonlinear relaxation of energy and deviation of Alfven wave energy around its equilibrium value. Due to the fact that the frequency bands of Alfven maser resonant structures practically coincide with the frequency band delta- and partially theta-rhythms of human brain, the problem of degree of possible impact of electromagnetic ”pearl” type resonant structures (0.1-5 Hz) onto the brain bio-rhythms stability is discussed." - www.researchgate.net/publication/230732877_Can_Resonant_Oscillations_of_the_Earth_Ionosphere_Influence_the_HumanBrain_Biorhythm

It's proven now that brain waves have the same form as music harmonics - so that language is actually a subset of music frequencies. So if we listen with focus the highest pitch we hear externally then resonates the brain as ultrasound, activating the microtubules as quantum consciousness. The Emptiness is a spacetime vortex that as quantum non-locality then "collapses" into biophotons as subjective spiritual ego -

ok stuart but remember that, although orch or apparently gives explanation for NDEs, it doesnt really seem to for OBEs, because for that to happen, it seems that you would need to have the metabolic functions to stop as in NDEs, but yet that is not happening in those cases..

It's proven that gold fish get sad if their owner goes on vacation, therefore time goes slower for gold fish since their adrenaline levels go down and so the brain neurons are not processing time as fast - and so goldfish do indeed understand relativity. See Hameroff's paper on free will for the details - the goldfish has gone into the Anti-Zone.

i always find it a pain to listen to stuart hameroff. It's like he's mish mashing a lot of unrelated things together with "quantum", "spacetime geometry", and other words he uses in 80% of his sentences. He starts speaking without any real points or goals. Whatever objective question he is asked is ignored and he goes onto speaking about spacetime geometry and quantum without pauses in his speech. He is also very serious and wont look into the eyes of the interviewer. Actually, he is having a monologue about quantum spacetime geometry and conciousness.

Sometimes you see a dog that's got out and it's just running and running. It doesn't have any idea where it's going and won't stop. This guy is just blocking something out by letting his mind and mouth run riot. Has he got a head injury or trauma. Want to know about consciousness have the humility to be taught. Don't pretend to be the master of something you know nothing about.

You need to do your homework before passing judgment. Stuart is really qualified - you might listen to other tubes and look at his Arizona State website on the study of consciousness. His partner in this theory is Roger Penrose, Stephen Hawking's PhD Thesis advisor, a nobel nominee and notable for his work on black holes. Two of the smartest guys around.

kdwyermedia, "a dog that's got out and it's just running and running" "Has he got a head injury or trauma". lol! Have you even read any of Stuart's collaboratory work with Roger Penrose? Stuart has been working in this field for almost fifty years so I think he knows more than most, yet he's never pretended to be the "master" of anything. I highly recommend watching the 6-part interview with Stuart that Jeff alluded to in this piece.
