Thanks. Actually the DIY soundbox was more noticeably quiet in real life than on the video. The big horn of the HMV 162 helped a lot but it still wasn't loud enough to annoy the neighbors. I have an adjoining wall to mine. The gramophones I have made completely from scratch are even quieter as my tonearm and horns are less efficient. Anyway don't be afraid to have a go, this stuff is not hard and it's great to hear it working. Thanks for watching :-)
Yes, its not as good, though I have worked on new designs which are better than this one and approach the quality and volume of genuine soundboxes. You might like this one: ua-cam.com/video/mK1bGhanqf4/v-deo.html Thanks 😀 👍
Ebay is usually a good place. Although you will find lots of people selling vintage needles and tins, your best bet is to find some new stock. Gramophone needles are still made and I have had no trouble buying them. I recommend the medium or half tone ones as a good place to start
I love the component parts you have used to fabricate this one. Visually pleasing to see it up together.
Thanks :-) I love making things out of easily available stuff and I thought it would look a little 'Steam Punk' too.
That type of project keeps your mind active, and made for an interesting video.
Thanks. And I really appreciate all the views and comments I get. Really encourages me to actually try stuff rather than just thinking about it :-)
Very ingenious ! 😊👍👍👍
Thanks 😀 👍

What did you use for the needle?
I think it was a proper gramophone needle. It is possible to use a pin or sewing needle but these will damage a record, especially a vinyl one
@@mrrgstuff nice! Where can I get those?
