I bought my first travellers notebook and was excited to set it up and add books etc . I watched so many videos but just couldn’t follow them and was about to give up when I came across your video . Wow what a difference, you explained very clearly and showed how to use the second elastic . Thank you so much . I now can use my journal to my hearts content 👍
*sigh* This notebook and all the accessories has been on my wish list forever..... But this is still great info for when I find the perfect piece of leather and make my own.....best tutorial I've seen about adding inserts....thank you!!
Thank you for the demonstration. I needed to show my sister how a TN went together. I had to giggle with your Cari Harling comment. She is so sweet and has that effect on people. She is magical like a pixie. hehe. Creative Blessings in 2023!
I always put my "4th" notebook on the "right" inside of my Traveler's Notebook, using the clear traveler's company "secreterial" Pocket, which is a lot bigger and slide my writing board right "behind" it - the larger "secreterial" Pocket holds the Notebook plus the writing board a little better, because it's much bigger than the small, clear pockets. PLUS putting a writing board "behind" the notebook saves it from getting that "hole" from the knot of the closing string - which ALWAYS bothered me, especially when you like "feel" the knot while writing on the last pages, but: Problem solved with putting an (actually very pretty) TRC writing board "over" the knot... 😅😊 I was searching for a way to put a 5th notebook in it and I'M SO THANKFUL FOR THIS VIDEO! 🙏🏼 - I ALREADY have the "small" clear pocket on left, "inner" side of my TN and just store some stickers in it. I haven't THOUGHT a SECOND about the option to put a 5th Notenook in the little clear pocket I ALREADY have in it (!) 😆🙈 - I just took the stickers out and put a 5th Notebook in - the small pocket is holding it PERFECTLY and it's SO nice that you can take it out like really quick and easy! 🙏🏼 THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS, REALLY! 🧡🧡🧡 Oh and I'll definitely buy 1mm string to attach the notebooks - I feel like the TRC "original" strings like "cut" in the notebook covers after a while bc they have like pretty "sharp" edges compared to a "round" string 👏🏼 - I'm doing it the same way - I doesn't attach the notebooks in the middle, I attach them on their Covers too... So ANOTHER, awesome tip! 🙏🏼 I immediately subscribed to your channel 😅 I'm so curious and very excited to check out your other videos❣️😊👋🏼
You are the only one that explains that an extra elastic is necessary! Thank you! I was at Tuesday Morning buying a explorers Travelers notebook and their instructions on piggybacking do not include telling us that you have to have an extra elastic... Thank you for adding that you can purchase this at Walmart... So glad I watched your video.
Well explained and demonstrated. You have clarified the situation perfectly. The 1mm round elastic use to be called hat elastic. Very cheap ande easy to come by. Also there is no reason why you can't make the inserts yourself provided you have a method of sealing your plastic together like in using a laminator and then using heavy duty double sided tape. Which normally has a red backing strip. Thanks for your well thought out demo.
@@SylviaWithAPlan Yes! On eBay they use both terms of round elastic and hat elastic. That is what the round elastic is used on, hats. Look at any milinary tutorials. How else do you think small cocktal hats or 'fascinators' at kept in place. The elastic is then hidden by the hair. Now we can get it in various colors but originally it only came in black and white.
Really awesome idea. Mine has 4 notebook refills plus the craft paper pocket thing. What I did was I set up the 4 notebooks like you suggested, and then I put the craft paper pocket thing in the middle. That way it can fold easily without displacing the others from the center, and I can carry scraps of paper etc without having to worry too much about overhang. What i found was the overhang was approx the same as putting 4 notebooks like you initially suggested, which is way better than what i had before. Also, i took your suggestion of using very thin elastic to piggyback the notebooks, and piggy back their covers instead their middle, which helped a lot.
THANK YOU for showing how to attach inserts. Also, thank you for numbering the notebooks. I am new to TN and doing as much research as I can before starting my first project. I had trouble understanding how to attach more than one insert. You explained it simply so a beginner can understand and I APPRECIATE it.
Thank you so much for sharing how you put your notebooks together! I received my first travelers notebooks and got so confused on how to put the books in.
Sylvia-I just purchased a Passport (size) Travelers Notebook, which I love. It came with one insert (blank). I switched it to some lined inserts. I find that I only love no more than two inserts at a time including a zippered vinyl with a place for 4 credit cards. It looks clean that way. With it came a cardboard insert. Do you happen to know what its for? Thanks. Kathy
Helpful video, thanks! I think two notebooks plus the little vinyl zip thing (on the passport size), or three of any insert, is the limit for me. I don't like the inserts sticking out of the leather cover. Love the blue, btw.
Do all the sets to add the inserts in that you see here. When the inserts are added, take your zippy pouch and slide it under the insert on the string. Same for the folder!
The electric for the Traveler’s Company brand is a 1.5 mm for thicker leather I would go with a 2mm anything thicker is crazy and can really dig into your leather!
New to the game. Where do you get the bands? Don't say Michael's...I'm in Afghanistan, so I need option where shipping doesn't cost more than the item itself. Also, I use the A5 size planners.
+Karen L The bands come from Traveler's Notebook Company like the notebook itself. The company is formally named Midori and from Japan, so sometimes it helps to search both names. We have many sellers online in the U.S. to get them from. Amazon is always easiest. You don't have to use the bands. The elastic string that is used as a closure can be found anywhere and cut down, ends tied together, as replacements for the bands. This way it doesn't matter what size Notebook, passport or A5, you use. Cut the string to any size you like. A5 and Regular are the same in height . The A5 is just wider, so if you buy the bands they will work just fine. Many Japanese people use the extra closure elastic that comes with the notebook as a band to hold the inserts together. The more videos on this subject you watch, you will see this 🙂 if you do go with the elastic string go with a 1 to 2 mm. Anything more and it's so thick inside the inserts that it can bug. The string around this notebook is a 1 mm.
Do you have a video or know of one that shows how to add multiple notebooks with multiple strings? I am struggling with this. Loved the way you showed the 5 notebooks I learned a lot from that.
Hi! Pardon my stupidity but I have never heard of a traveler's notebook. I could figure out some uses for it but would you please tell me a little bit more about a traveler's notebook? Thank you so much. You're one of the few people I see that's as picky as I am about things lining up and being even and things like that. Thank you thank you thank you! God bless you, Cookie
Hi, Cookie! If you go to my channel you will find many tutorials on TNs in my Traveler’s Notebook play list. I have videos on all sizes and brands. It’s hard to write about them if you don’t know, so showing is better than telling! Also you can just search traveler’s notebooks in UA-cam and find all kinds of info 🙂

I’m so happy it helped!
Completely agree with this. I have 5 inserts, although 2 are zipper cases, pens and stencils, I’m slightly ocd so I like things compartmentalised
*sigh*

Thank you! Have planning and journaling 😃
What dark magic is this?! 😍 Genius idea! I hate wobbly, shifty books and overhang. Great solution
+Laura P. Thanks, Lady! I hope it works out for you 😊
Wow, you ARE the ONLY ONE that has explained this so well. Thank you , Thank you.
I hope it helped!

Yes! The instructions don’t help much either, because on the Traveler’s Company bands it’s in Japanese 😂 I like the elastic string best!

Sure glad you numbered those notebooks. It's late in the night and I would have been lost at 2 and 4. Well done.
This was one of the most helpful TN video’s I have watched. Thank you!

I’m so glad! Good luck on your
Why don't you put that 1mm elastic through the middle of the inserts, instead of just the front/back cover?
She explained that in the video.
Thank you so much for sharing how you put your notebooks together! I received my first travelers notebooks and got so confused on how to put the books in.
Very simplistic system. Thanks for sharing the way you add additional books. Mine should arrive Monday :)

Very clever! I'd recently got a TN this week in the hope getting back into journaling and krafts... so this was very helpful!

Thank you. Yr explanation is very clear.
I struggle to put them in before watching your video.
I’m glad it helped😊
The pockets are a brilliant idea. Thank you so much for sharing.
I’m going to try this with my junk journals. Thank you for the information, great video.
How would you add a folder with the plastic card and zipper plastic case please To my 3 notebooks ? I hope you don’t mind me asking .
Do all the sets to add the inserts in that you see here. When the inserts are added, take your zippy pouch and slide it under the insert on the string. Same for the folder!
Also you can wrap the folder around the insert first and then follow the sets to stringing them. Same with the zippy pouch 🙂
Love you easy way of exlaining things! Thank you! My TN and inserts are on their way, so your video helped a lot! :)
THANK YOU FOR NUMBERING THE INSERTS!!!!
Maybe thinner inserts would reduce overhang?
Yes, I feel like it's so helpful. Thanks for watching :)
redpanda girlie
What size elastic do you use, and what do you recommend? Thank you!
The electric for the Traveler’s Company brand is a 1.5 mm for thicker leather I would go with a 2mm anything thicker is crazy and can really dig into your leather!
Thank you!
What is this magic!? Thanks. You're really smart. I love my leather notebooks and these tips will really help. I love it!
What is the little button in the upper outside left coroner of the closed notebook?
I have a X-17 Notebook and the one I have has 4 elastics for 4 inserts and their is no overhang because of how X-17 makes their leather journals
Excellent! I've always struggled with overhang. Thanks
Me too! I just need for that notebook to be functional so I will use it :)
GREAT Video, very helpfull much better way than the original way!! Thank you so much , love to more of you! Love and Light from Amsterdam Holland
Thank you 😊
Really good thought out advice - thank you

I HAVE used a large rubberband...😊.

You surely have solved my issue with these inserts.
Thanks for sharing, brilliant idea!!!!

What length do you cut the elastic?

Great video.
For me, contact leather maker, ask for 5 strings and a wider cut of leather. Boom shaka lakka.
Girl, just buy a different cover, lol, jk. Love it.
Brilliant. Thanks so much.
