My daughters made rag lap size quilts and i agree with you. They are a big pain and i dont want to make anymore!!! I will say once they are washed a few times and frayed, they are very cozy. I love love love the knitty mcpurly rose gold! That will be a gorgeous sweater. Don't worry too much about the guage, looks like a very stretchy stitch pattern. I watched an interview of Usha (JD's wife) and she seemed really lovely, thoughtful, and super smart. Im looking forward to hearing more from them both.
Thank you! The sweater stitch does look very stretchy…but I don’t want it to cling to me either 🤣 I don’t know anything about JD’s wife, there was very little in the book about her but she was mentioned a few times towards the end.
The Martian is a great film: there is good tension and humor throughout, and it feels very realistic. It’s been interesting hearing how you like the book!
Hi Shauna. I really like your sweaters and I’m looking forward to seeing the colorwork come to life. I listened to The Martian on audible before it even came out in movie form and I thought it was really entertaining.
I’m glad you enjoyed the book as an audio book. I didn’t hate it by any means, I just struggled to grasp what was going on all the time, and during those times my mind really started to wander.
Four skeins is enough per the pattern, but I was thinking about how I always like to make things longer. Obviously I’d knit every last bit if I needed to, to make sure I had it plenty long. Usually pattern overestimate yardage so it’s probably ok. Not having a lot of finishing projects to compare doesn’t help 🤣 I still haven’t cast on so maybe my the time I do there will be a lot.
I've never read The Martian, but we like the movie. I can imagine having the visual would be an immense help. Make it through the movie once if you can. I'm adding the book to my read list now so I can compare the two. I vote that you let your Mabel swatch rest until your Tutti Frutti sweater is done and decide from there how you feel about it. Can I ask what pattern/who you're testing for? I like your acquisitions for the year being in the background; I think you've added less to your stash this year than I have. 😂 I know you didn't talk about this in the episode, but when you mentioned your DVD socks and not liking the darker tone of them, I think that gave me the obvious answer about using stash vs getting new fluff for your advent project, no matter what you choose. As far as the king size being so long, I remember as a kid blankets being folded under the pillows and then coming back over them to cover them completely; I bet that's what that length was designed for. Hope you have a good week! And how is it almost the middle of September already?!
I do need to watch The Martian now that I’ve finished the book. It was an ok read but a lot of the explanations were lost on me. The King size length makes sense, I have seen blankets/quilts folded like you mention. I’m not that fancy 🤣
Hi Shauna! You are inspiring me to check out that Melting Pot (?) pattern! It’s looking really nice! I also think I’m going to have to read Hillbilly Elegy. I really enjoy biographies and memoirs and you’re right that he is in a unique position in politics coming from that background. (Shameless plug-if you’re in the market for an Emotional Support Chicken kit, I have one in my shop! 😇)
Thank you! Melting Pot has been a great knit so far. I see she just came out with it in DK too if that’s more up your alley. I’ll check out your chicken kits!
Hi Shauna 👋🏻 I can’t remember if I’ve asked you this before or not so if I have, please forgive me 🙃 but do you have a Discord or Telegram group for your podcast? If so, could you share the link for joining? Also, I am a Gen X and totally miss the days of being excited for a show to drop the next weekly episode! I loved Quantum Leap back in the day but it fell on Wednesday night which was a church night and I would get so flustered with my dad who was the treasurer and had to complete that stuff before heading home and I just wanted to get home and be able to catch the beginning. He did tape it because it was one of his favorite shows too but he didn’t mind watching it later. I wanted to watch it when it aired 😊 anyway, I do enjoy that they do have shows that you can binge but it’s still my favorite when they make the episodes available weekly. I don’t know there’s just a certain excitement that comes with it that you don’t necessarily get with binge watching 😊 I think a hippo 🦛 would be a great addition to your background 🥰 Joy
I don’t have a discord or telegram group. I can barely keep up with Instagram 🤣 I loved Quantum Leap too, what a great show. I don’t think I caught it as it was airing though. My never miss show was probably Friends. I am tempted to make another Hippo. I’ll have to look and see what patterns that designer has now. A Chihuahua would be even better!
I can’t remember how old you said you turned recently, I turned 50 this past June and I know there’s a few years between us. I was 15 when quantum leap came out and with you being younger it might not have been on your radar at the time. When friends came out I was 20 with a newborn with special needs but we still tried to catch friends every week in the beginning. It was a good way to unwind with good laughs! So many good shows back then! Ooo, if you could find a chihuahua pattern to make, that would be perfect in your background!!! I can’t wait to see whichever one you make (or both 😉).
@@happyfox74I’m 45 so not far behind you! I haven’t found a good chihuahua pattern yet but I might have found yarn for a hippo in my stash. I just hope it’s enough because I don’t think I can get more. I need to look at a few more resources though. I seen to remember several years ago there were either knitted out crocheted animal heads, like hunting trophy types, but I can’t remember the company.
Let me know how you like Knit Picks Stroll. I am knitting socks with it now and I don’t think it’s going to hold up well. It seems too weak and splitty.
I have used it a few times on socks and so far it’s holding up ok. I know what you mean though, it’s definitely on the softer side for a sock yarn. I think I prefer it for shawls or sweaters.
I actually really like your autumn rainbow socks and they are my favorite of your seasonal rainbow socks. I also love your Melting Pot sweater!
Thank you! I love them too, maybe I just wasn’t ready for fall colors yet.
The quilt is beautiful as are all your other projects. 😃
Thank you 🤗

I still need to watch it. I haven’t had any time for TV lately. The book was actually quite funny in places too.
Always enjoy your videos 💖
Thank you!

I love the pink/gold yarn, but if I were worried about it running out I'd use the larger needles.
