  • Having a big table is great until you cover half of it in stuff... Ive been wanting to make a clamp cart for 2 years and this little tooling table worked out perfect! Sometimes its easier to modify something you can buy for a good price than it is to make it from scratch...

I add sliders to any metal cabinets I scrounge up. By using plywood it is quick to build out the inside to be flush with the angle iron. In some circumstances you may have to slightly notch the angle iron to accommodate the slides. Nothing beats ball bearing full extension slides for drawers. You can also add a sliding shelf on them to allow all kinds of options. Collet holders can be made with the sliding shelf just like you made your top. On some of the flimsier file cabinets I add 3/4 plywood to the sides and back which firm it up as well as allow a variety of hanging hooks. Never have enough space in any shop. Great project to help keep it straightened up (you can only build so many benches. I tried the build another when the first gets full. Didn't work too well).

Soaking the plated rod couplings in vinegar overnight will remove the zinc plating.

Was thinking of the same cart for a long time. My fixture table is also loaded with crap 97% of the time.

I built a similar function cart, I'll do a video on it soon and link it up. I used a more vertical solution, as I'm in a mini 1-car garage.

Here's my mini 10x19 welding / fab shop: ua-cam.com/video/WuCeeo6IBFA/v-deo.html, and if you don't care about that, here you can start right at the tool holder: ua-cam.com/video/WuCeeo6IBFA/v-deo.htmlsi=IoFSdM6ysSBt2Ee9&t=345

I wish there was an EFFECTIVE and affordable fume extractor for welding aluminum in my garage, like a hobbyist level unit that is not priced in the thousands.

I’d say the best bet would be to get an inline exhaust fan and vent it outside of the garage. They can be had pretty cheap and then use some flex duct to get to the weld area. Use an intake on the other side of the room to create some negative pressure and it’ll suck the smoke out, maybe your argon too! 😂

Very clever method for mounting your stem casters. I have only used plate casters and never even considered stem casters but I will now.

It's always nice to be organized - I need to do something similar. My welding table seems to be the catch all in my shop for some reason.

i need this for my wood shop!! Ever consider popping smaller holes, say 1/2", with the plasma then drilling out to 5/8" with a step bit or something? Honestly the plywood probably has advantages of its own, but just curious.
Also, for my workbench, I used the same coupling nuts to mount my leveling feet. Only difference is I just drilled a hole in the wooden leg and pounded them in haha.

With as many floor based man-toys as you have, IIWMI'D be thinking overhead storage solutions instead of more floor based fixtures. That said, nice cart, i liked the plywood solution for straightening clamp inserts

It’s a little tricky because there are pretty high ceilings in there and he uses the headroom over the table for larger items

What brand of welding fixture table is that and where does someone get one? I see a few different ones with yellow legs. Great idea for the cart too!

Naive noob question here. Want you supposed to clean up the metal before welding? The metal you welded looked like it had some good oxidation. Is it more the 'she furniture' mentality? Also Zip screws. Are those just self tapping metal screws?

    • @jeremyspecce
      @jeremyspecce 10 місяців тому

Yea you are but if it’s just a little surface rust and a non critical weld like that you can pretty much just burn through it. Of course heavy rust or paint (or zinc / galvanizing like he said) you’d want to clean up so you have a clean weld.

The table looks nice. But, if you're anything like me, the freshly cleaned area on your fixture table will grow a new collection of stuff. Tables have their own life.
Why are we can allow work benches to have the ability to collect clutter, while we are anal when it comes to stacking the dishwasher?
