The Bardarbunga Earthquake And The Widespread Land Uplift On The Highlands
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 кві 2024
- The Bárðarbunga earthquake might be a very interesting part of a larger story that involves widespread land uplift by Europes largest glacier, Vatnajokull. It sits on Iceland's hot spot where Iceland's mother of all volcanoes has been rumbling ever since the 2014 eruption.

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel.
Greetings from Iceland. Gylfi
Pounding in flowers and mowing snow! Only in Iceland.
🌷 welcome
Love that Icelandic humor!
I've been doing it all wrong. I need to take my "flowers" up to the Sierra ski resorts to get them looking beautiful! 💜✌️😸🌷
This has a Monty Python vibe to it.
👍😁🍀😂thank you
Not quite. We just got 25cm of snow here in Helsinki. Been mowing the snow all day. My wife will soon start the flower hammering in sheer desperation. Can't find the snowdrops anyhow.
5:36 🤣🤣 hammering down the flowers sent me into hysterics! 😂
I need rock climbing tools to break the clay here.
🌷 welcome
That brought tears to my eyes too 😅
loved it
😂😂😂
I love the smell of freshly hammered flowers! ❤
🌷 welcome
I was laughing so hard at hammering the tulips in and mowing the snow...lol...just like where I live in Canada! You Icelanders have an awesome sense of humor...and as always, thank you for the awesome update. God bless...
It's why so many Icelanders emmigrated to Canada 😂
When the calender says it’s spring ….
@@Greblav But The Soil Says Winter... 😔😆
Springtime in Iceland is that magical time for tilling the snow, planting ice cubes for the next season. I am so pleased having met you on UA-cam
Oh man I lost it welcoming in spring at the end 😂
Thank You!.. and be safe!

Is Iceland the only country which harvests its vegetables ready-frozen?

No idea. I don’t live in I-I-I-Iceland.
You are my favorite channel for all things Icelandic!
Happy to hear that and always welcome :)
I second that motion.
Oh Gylfi, your sense of humour is priceless 🤣 just what I need to make me smile and brighten up my day.
You are brilliant.
🤗 welcome
The hammering flowers and lawn mover footages were excellent 😂😂😂😂 you made my day Gylfi
Have a great day :)
I had just finished watching Jonna Jinton's video of doing laundry in Sweden in springtime (hilarious) and then watched this video of people in Iceland doing springtime gardening (also hilarious)! Thanks for the laugh!
You are one very good comedian planting flowers with an hammer and mowing what is left of the snow . i'm still laughing about it
Some of us are English readers. So it is 'a hammer' Not 'an hammer'. It's okay for the Icelantic Internet word Police. But English for the English reader is important on Wensdays and today is Wednesday. So it is 'an' when preceeding a noun and 'a' for other words.
Thanks for the love in the morning. So now I know what's wrong with my planting tulips! 🤣🤣🌷🌷 Thanks for all your hard work, I love your videos, they show the wild beauty of your country well.
We know tulips 🌷 and greetings from Iceland
Holy cow, Gylfi! Here I am as always, saving you as the best for last of my day, like icing on my cake of life.....knowing I will not be disappointed. I am still laughing.🤣👍🤗
Thanks Gylfi, I also enjoyed the humor at the end of the video. Take care with your travels and stay safe. With best regards and wishes from NZ.
🌷 welcome
Excellent video again Gylfi. I did laugh at the Icelanders hammering the tulips into the ground & then mowing snow!! Safe travels for your journey to Reykjanes Peninsula.
Thanks, Gylfi. Interesting update on Barðarbunga. According to the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program, prior to the spectacular 2014-2015 episode, Barðarbunga had not had a confirmed eruption since 1910. Up until then, it had erupted roughly every 5-15 years.
However, the same site documents no less than 10 *unconfirmed* eruptions between 1986 and 2008, which is a lot more frequent than 5-15 years, even if only half of those could be confirmed (I'm assuming that the uncertainty is due to those eruptions being subglacial, and therefore difficult to confirm, or to distinguish from those of its close neighbour, Grímsvötn).
Also, thanks for the giggles at the end. If we don't get some rain soon here in South Australia, I might have to resort to the unique Icelandic method of planting flowers in my garden next Spring! 😂
You have the perfect mix of information/education, spectacular footage of your lovely country, and delightful humor.
Thank you, Gylfi! 💜🌷🏞️✌️😸🍀
Thank you very much 🌷 aprecciated :)
Gylfi, your peoples just Crack me up ,mowing the snow & hammering in frozen flowers in frozen ground 😂!! Keep 'em coming!!

Love the Icelandic gardening. Your videos are always interesting Gylfi, thank you for the calm and drama free explanations. Safe journey south.
Thanks and welcome :)
Your Tulips are doing better than mine!
🌷 we know how to plant them
So calm, so collected, so hilarious, absolute surprise ending 🤣🤣
That picture of the sunrise or sunset at 4:10 is stunning. As an amateur photographer myself I have had a passion for sunsets for some time. That one you showed is especially impressive.
Thank you for another great video. If you visit Iceland stop and read the many historical signs that are along the highway. This is one near Stokkseyri. An enormous eruption around 6700 B.C. in t he Heljargja canyon in the veloivotn region. The lava flowed at least 140 Km or 87 miles until it reached the sea. This is called the great pjorsarhraun lave eruption. It about 975 sq km or 376 sq miles and its volume is 25 km or 6 cubic miles. You can get a lot of information about Iceland from the signs along the road and this is just one of them. I look at your video and think Iceland past now and future. You cover all so well. will be back in Iceland for my 8 visit from June 26 until Aug. 14. I always find something new with each visit. Thank you Ben
Ever time I watch one of your videos Gylfi, I feel like I have just received the warmest hug ever 🤗
Hammering down the flowers.... - so springtime has finally reached Iceland! 🤣🌷🔨🤣
Love it!!
I love the colours in the landscape so much
The highlands are like nothing else :)
@@JustIcelandic Would we see these colours on the Golden Circle tour?

Oh my goodness, this is really fascinating to learn, especially as we already have tickets to come to Iceland in October. Thank you again for your diligent work and the beautiful views. Drive safely!
NICE! Mowing snow off the grass. Looks like something I would do!
Thanks for your report.
Thanks 👍
Multitasking! 😹
Pounding flowers, mowing snow? You guys are weird. Thanks for the information.

I'm glad to hear that and greetings from Iceland ❤
Wunderbare Aufnahmen vom Hochland! Danke. 🥰
Thanks and welcome :)
Your videos are visually pleasing and creative. Loved the humor you slipped in there at the end - the guy mowing the snow reminded me of a scene in Svenska Hjärtan back in the late 80s. The guy freaks out because he's found out his wife is having an affair, yadda yadda...
I love the “hammering flowers” picture…😂😂❤😂😂
🤗 welcome
I was chuckling at the thought of a volcanic burp, then came the shots of hammering tulips and mowing snow. I'm gone 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😊 enjoy
That ending took me totally by surprise! I had my serious hat on and it fell off very quickly as I burst out laughing.
😊 we need to take it off from time to time :)
When I was a kid in New England we avoided the whole mowing snow/pounding in flowers - by painting flowers *on* the snow. You should have seen the tulips we had that May.....
That black sandy landscape looked amazing! Must try to hammer a flower too on my next visit 😂 🌹
🌷 welcome
Thank you for the update & info! 💜
Any time!
the flower hammering and snow mowing gave me a good chuckle 😂
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for your videos, as usual they are informative and interesting to watch.
My pleasure!
Thank you again for your informative video. You are probably more of an expert then you think.
Also thank you for the laugh with the videos ending. Take care ftom Australia
Thank you again for the update. Hope the people take care when they plant the tulips, you don't want to hit a hidden magma chamber 😂

Fantastic work as always, TY, Gylfi, and for your sense of humour and keeping things in perspective.
My pleasure!
How nice your reporting is all the time! Ty Gyfi as always for your excellent work and humor too!
Greetings from Vienna - Austria
Many thanks!
So funny the flowers and mowing the snowcovered grass. Thank you Gylfi :)
Glad you enjoyed it🌷
Watching this last video really touches me. My motherThura was born and raised in the land of fire and ice; mother moved my older brother and older sister and myself to the US in 1952.
I live near Buffalo NY so I laughed when I saw the lawn mower in the snow at the end. I gardened last week in the light snow myself 😂another great update! 😊
Spring flower technique! Thanks, Gylfi, for the serious information and the funny stuff, too!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hammering flowers into the ground. 😂
I wonder how you plant trees😅
Good morning Gylfy.
I was right then when I told you several months ago about the disappearance of the ice sheet after the last ice age and the uplifting of Iceland out of the earth’s mantle which induces more volcanic activity.
The future of Iceland will be impetuous but hopefully not too dangerous for the people.
Stay safe.
Rite Gylfi Dude, Flower hammering and mowing the snow, well you live n learn! Stay safe n well on the Beautiful Volcano Island ICELAND. TFS, GB :)
Have a safe trip south. Thank you for the update and the laughs at the end. See you soon.
Thanks so much!
Thanks Gylfi, another excellent report, and really made me laugh at the end, with the flowers. Looking forward to your next bulletin.
Many thanks!
Flower-hammering season is always awaited with great anticipation. Of course, flowers with spikes are essential.
Wonderful time indeed
😂 The tulips 😂 Thank you for the laugh and the most interesting video!
Welcome 😊
like many other here that end was fantastic, a good belly laugh achieved thank you for your time.
Enjoy :)
I so love your senes of humor. Thank you for making me laugh on a busy day. Safe travels and thank you for your great channel, you dedicate a lot of hard work and it shows. Cheers from Austin TX.
Awesome ending!!
Gave me a good chuckle 😂
It will be interesting to see how this develops in the coming months. Iceland's getting all kinds of Seismic activity!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Too funny! Love that Icelandic sense of humour!
Hammering flowers? You might want to consider the pneumatic floralspike market. Air tools that can plant 100 flowers per minute in the hands of a skilled florist, though you need a permit to own one... pranksters shooting tulips into the buttcheeks of their "friends" are why we can't have nice things.
Love your humour!
Thanks and welcome :)
It Is Spring! 😅 ! The Good Sunny morning in Värmland, just got Better! T Y for your observations!
Smashing stuff Gylfi, thank you.

Thanks a ton :)
Hahaaa awesome how you all 'plant' flowers! And cut your ummm.. Snow?! LoL 😆 🌷🌷🌷❄❄
Lol rarely seen Icelandic comedy scetches, love it!
Thanks 👍
The end was perfect.

Thank you Gylfi. Those two inset clips at the end .... I laughed out loud. Excellent visual humor and it seems to track your own sense of humor that peeks through some of your videos. Safe travels.
nice video and update, love the scenes of the guy mowing the snow and hammering in the flowers 😆
Thanks 👍
4:18 - The TREES! Thanks Gylfi!

When you are mowing snow, make sure to start in the middle and mow counterclockwise.
Gives you just the right spiral! 😹
i loved the Icelandic tulips and the way you people cultivate the snow. 😂
Thanks and welcome :)
I really appreciate the videos you've been putting up because this isn't getting ANY air play here in the US. You and just a few other channels are my only sources of info on these geological events.
That said, I'm always half expecting a "here vee goh!" or a "vat da faaak?!" from you every now and then because your voice reminds me of the Hydraulic Press Channel. 😀
Oh Gylfi, that was so informative and funny! 😅 I love your sense of humour 😂
👍 much appreciated :)
Thanks for sharing! So appreciated! 😊

😂😂😂 excellent coverage. Your commentary is one of a kind and your drone footage fab. My favourite channel! 😅😊
Thank you so much 😀
Just awesome images!! Beautiful land
Many thanks!
Thank you for the update 😊👍🙏>>>💚

I like the footage banging the flowers in the ground and mowing the snow😂. I was surprised with the bigger earthquake - do you know how widely that was felt in Iceland? I guess in Iceland with all the goings on you just have to take each day it as it comes. I like the footage of Iceland such a varied landscape.
I was felt in the north and east Iceland, but luckily, Bárðarbunga is very in the very rural area, or should we say, the area is rural due to Bárðarbunga :)
Your footage is the best!! Many thanks ❤
Many thanks!
Mowing the snow 😀 hamming flowers HAHA

Great informations on the Earthquake!!! Luv your videos!!!
Thank you!
Thank you for the up date 😊 love your channel ❤
Yay! Thank you! ❤ and always welcome :)
Well, I guess since tulips come from the land w/ traditional wooden shoes, wooden tulips seem only natural...Maybe someone in Iceland can invent a combination snow-blower/lawn-mower for those early-Spring mows...Thanks again for the informative report; the 'quake animations were interesting, and the drone footage spectacular!
Thanks for sharing what your heart feels bro this feels like somehuge globally 🎉 isitime
thanks for the information gylfi and the comedic moments at the end
do they have seismic monitoring to get a picture of the magma chamber below bardarbunga?
