i mean ella's main flaw was that she just... let ezra continue to date and eventually MARRY aria, straight up allowing her daughter to be groomed by an older man (who was her TEACHER) and barely doing anything to stop it.
i mean... at that point aria was an adult, she couldn't just *not* her let her marry him if that's what she wanted but they should've sat down and talked about the reason why she kept running back to her groomer, someone who callously took advantage of her youth and why she felt like that was the right man for her. she was 23 at that point and the whole book thing would realistically evoke some uncomfortable feelings and make her face her trauma but we have to preserve the ships
I also think both Ella and Byron had a bad habit of parentifying Aria... Byron asking Aria to lie to Ella, Ella telling Aria she was hurt by that when she found out (placing even more responsibility on her), then constantly coming to Aria about her problems with Byron, both parents (but especially Ella) coming to Aria about Mike and his issues or asking her to "watch" him as if he's way younger than her--realistically Mike and Aria can only be about 1yr-2yrs apart in age if they both attend Rosewood High in S1 when Aria's a sophomore. This always bothered me but I think it's intentional and reflects in Aria's character, like how she takes responsibility for Mike at Jason's door -- "I'm really sorry, he's never done anything like this before, thank you for not calling the police" all things a parent would be saying. Her parentification and adultification in her family dynamic, plus her parents whole independence thing, could have even played a part in her feeling "mature" enough for a relationship with Ezra -- not that it excuses his grooming or predatory behavior whatsoever, but maybe that it made her an easier target since she's used to the adults in her life treating her like a fellow adult.

I think they could have done something where Alison fakes her death to go off and be a menace, but when Aria returns she takes the opportunity to use her to manipulate and bully her old friends. Aria could have stayed A all along, or had a change of heart and reveals the truth, only to find herself being bullied too, and no one believing Alison is alive. Imagine the storylines you could get from it! You could have Alison manipulating everything so Aria takes the fall for it all, and in the end the liars somehow reveal Alison is alive and to blame for everything. You could have Alison’s family having to come to terms with their daughter faking her own death but also being a psychotic little menace. That would be so intriguing! And leaving Alison in the shadows, and slowly revealing that different characters we thought were on the liars side were just her puppets would keep the tension up. And Aria being an unreliable narrator of sorts would make you feel like anything is possible and anyone can be bad.
Also HEAVY on spencer and caleb having a sibling like relationship, it was so strange it just felt wrong. And then when you think about how long they were catching feelings and spending time together before Hanna knew anything about it gives me a gross feeling about both of them. Esp given how the whole show is the girls saving each other and putting each other (usually) above everyone else. Even arias shady self told Sean to buzz off when he sent her flowers to spite Hanna
exactly, spencer had habit off "shopping out people's carts" as melissa said but it was character assasination of all three of them in my opinion, spencer would never betray her former best friend like that especially for just a short lived fling, caleb shouldn't have ever gone for spencer and distanced himself when he noticed spencer was catching feelings and hanna was shady for not speaking up then trying to win caleb back, utter mess and i would've been fine with a plot line like this if it happened in previous seasons when their friendship wasn't established well or have them have a falling out but not after a 5 year time jump, weird writing
on that point serena made about wondering if the actors ever hated where their character was going during press for later seasons, especially after the cece reveal, you can tell they were fed up with marlene and her writing, especially sasha and troian lmaooo
Honestly, I really don’t think Caleb being with Spencer for that little bit was problematic at all. At that point they all grew up together and he wasn’t with Hanna so naturally they explored whatever attraction they had for each other but ultimately it didn’t work out and they’re still friends. To me that’s pretty healthy, he wasn’t some jerk that was eyeing Spencer while he was with Hanna.. he respectfully dated both women and still ended up with Hanna. Also Hanna and Spencer has such an unbreakable sisterly bond that it didn’t end their relationship either

Talking about killing Emily, while I agree it would've been better because they weren't giving her any storylines, I think many shows at the time were being hit with backlash because of the Bury Your Gays thrope, which is when they kill LGBTQ+ characters for shock value. If Emily would've been killed around the same time as other characters like Lexa from The 100, the show would've been bombarded. I think maybe killing a parent would've been a better option, maybe Veronica or Pam could've been interesting.
After the fourth season, everything went wrong, as if they didn't know what to do with the series, they also tried very hard to make the character A a big surprise, something so unexpected that they completely ruined the series with that

I love that you gave shout outs to The Vampire Diaries and Once Upon a Time ❤🤩 The writers of Pretty Little Liars should've been working together with the teams for those two shows, because they knew how to keep things moving forward without a bunch of false scares and red herrings all the time. A big deal about PLL being to dragged in the first place was all the various fifty-something red herrings and all the "A is watching us"-comments.
I think some of the issues with the LGBQR+ storylines being incomplete have to do with network constraints. When the show was on CW it had to be "family-friendly" which is mind-boggling how an inappropriate student/teacher relationship is fine but a same-sex relationship between two teens is not. But that doesn't excuse ALL of the unfinished storylines for LGBQT+ characters.

I commented this on one your earlier videos (I think the Aria one) but I’m going to put it here while we’re on the topic of Aria being A 13:07 . Here’s how I think it could have worked: “PLL could have been this intriguing story about grief, friendship, and the real repercussions of bullying. I think the final A should have been Aria with the help of Ezra, Jason, and Noel. Like Serena said the love between Aria and Alison could have been unconditional. I believe it’s implied if not explicitly mentioned that the girls didn’t have many friends before Alison came into their lives. In the book Aria is described as the weirdo of Rosewood. Perhaps she had some mental disorders (I don’t have much knowledge on mental health problems so bear with me) that led to her being a patient at Radley and she didn’t have many opportunities to make friends. So when Alison brought all the girls together Aria felt like she belonged for the first time in her life. She had good friends and a good life all thanks to Alison. After Alison’s disappearance the girls drifted apart and maybe this caused Aria to again be consumed by her mental disorders but her parents didn’t want to send her back to Radley because other people in town might find out and it could lead to more problems for Aria so instead they went away to Iceland. A year later when Aria came back to Rosewood Mona began the A game because she was afraid that the girls would bully her again, like she did in the show when Alison returned. Unfortunately for her this only brings the girls closer and suddenly Aria has her old friend group again. As for Ezra maybe Aria knew that Alison had a thing with him since they seemed the closest out of the five girls, and in some warped way in her mind being with him meant having a connection with Alison. And kind of the same thing with Jason. Once it’s revealed that Mona is A Aria worries that she will lose her friends again. She thinks that the only way her friendship with the girls work is if they have a common “enemy” to fight against. Originally it was Alison who knew all their secrets and manipulated the girls with them, and then later Mona did the same thing as A. So Aria picked the game up from Mona, adopting this Alison-esque persona and pretended to be innocent the entire time. She did feel betrayed that Ezra was writing his book the entire time but figured she could use the information he collected to her advantage. Like Alison she manipulates Jason and Noel to do her bidding. Here we have our A team. On the other side we have the three girls; Spencer, Hanna, and Emily. Caleb, Toby, and whoever Emily is with at the time, I lost track. Mona later becomes an ally to the girls once out of the A game for good, her brilliance a match for Spencer’s. And then there’s rogue Jenna that always seems to have her own handful of cohorts and only acts on her own behalf. And the show could have gone on for 2-3 seasons with the girls trying to figure out who A is. Finally it would be revealed that Aria is A when Noel, after secretly working for both Aria and Jenna unbeknownst to each girl, told Jenna the truth when things had gotten too far (Aria planning on kidnapping the girls in the Dollhouse.) When the girls confront Aria through much difficulty she confesses to everything. She reveals that she had not only killed Maya for knowing the truth but also killed Alison, on the night she disappeared, in a fit of rage when she found out that Alison was blackmailing her (Aria’s) father. Mona then found Alison’s body that night. Thinking that after all the terrible things the girl had done Alison didn’t deserve a proper burial and in a rash decision Mona buried her in the backyard. The girls would struggle with the idea that their close friend was their tormentor for so long but ultimately they’d sympathize with Aria and tell her that they all miss Alison but they have to move on and they can do that together. Ezra would go to jail (for obvious reasons), and Aria (and maybe Mona too) would go back to Radley this time with her friends to support her as she gets better. The moral of the story would be that mental illnesses can cause you to do terrible things in the wake of grief or other traumatic catalysts but with the right help and support you can live a good and happy life. Additionally, the show would be a prime example of the repercussions of bullying being that Alison tormented all these people including Aria and the girls but even after she died these people had to deal with the trauma long after she was gone. Your actions don’t end with you, they affect others regardless of your presence in their life. PLL still could’ve been this salacious teen drama but it also could’ve had all these morals that would be beneficial for younger generations for years to come.” Love the video Serena! It's so interesting that you bring up a TVD/PLL crossover because I always had this idea of Elena and Aria potentially being cousins, like, Ella and Isobel could totally be sisters and you can have Elena, who pretty much lost her entire family, try to go looking for her and end up in Rosewood. Or just taking into account how many actors have been on both shows - Maya could've been a Bennett witch. Or Veronica Hastings could originally be from Mystic Falls and a part of one of the founding families (I feel like the Fells would be an obvious choice since Torey Devitto played both Melissa and Meredith Fell).
Emily could’ve been SUCH an interesting character I can’t stand the extent to which they let her become a filler. I know they didn’t wanna go for aria in the end because people guessed it, but if they made it Alison and Mona, then showed backstory where Mona became Alison’s background bestie/ minion it would’ve been everything. And maybe unpopular opinion but if all the girls died in the end except Alison and Mona and they still went on to do their own spin off that would’ve been SO interesting

Im just restarted pll for the millionth time and JUST noticed another (small) inconsistency- in the pilot when aria goes into the pub and meets ezra she orders a cheeseburger but then throughout the show there’s so many references to her being vegan/vegetarian 😂 i guess she could’ve made that switch later in the show and wasnt at the time of the pilot but it just made me laugh a little

I love that you gave shout outs to The Vampire Diaries and Once Upon a Time ❤🤩 The writers of Pretty Little Liars should've been working together with the teams for those two shows, because they knew how to keep things moving forward without a bunch of false scares and red herrings all the time. A big deal about PLL being to dragged in the first place was all the various fifty-something red herrings and all the "A is watching us"-comments.

I think some of the issues with the LGBQR+ storylines being incomplete have to do with network constraints. When the show was on CW it had to be "family-friendly" which is mind-boggling how an inappropriate student/teacher relationship is fine but a same-sex relationship between two teens is not.
But that doesn't excuse ALL of the unfinished storylines for LGBQT+ characters.

I commented this on one your earlier videos (I think the Aria one) but I’m going to put it here while we’re on the topic of Aria being A 13:07 . Here’s how I think it could have worked:
“PLL could have been this intriguing story about grief, friendship, and the real repercussions of bullying.
I think the final A should have been Aria with the help of Ezra, Jason, and Noel. Like Serena said the love between Aria and Alison could have been unconditional. I believe it’s implied if not explicitly mentioned that the girls didn’t have many friends before Alison came into their lives. In the book Aria is described as the weirdo of Rosewood. Perhaps she had some mental disorders (I don’t have much knowledge on mental health problems so bear with me) that led to her being a patient at Radley and she didn’t have many opportunities to make friends. So when Alison brought all the girls together Aria felt like she belonged for the first time in her life. She had good friends and a good life all thanks to Alison.
After Alison’s disappearance the girls drifted apart and maybe this caused Aria to again be consumed by her mental disorders but her parents didn’t want to send her back to Radley because other people in town might find out and it could lead to more problems for Aria so instead they went away to Iceland.
A year later when Aria came back to Rosewood Mona began the A game because she was afraid that the girls would bully her again, like she did in the show when Alison returned. Unfortunately for her this only brings the girls closer and suddenly Aria has her old friend group again. As for Ezra maybe Aria knew that Alison had a thing with him since they seemed the closest out of the five girls, and in some warped way in her mind being with him meant having a connection with Alison. And kind of the same thing with Jason.
Once it’s revealed that Mona is A Aria worries that she will lose her friends again. She thinks that the only way her friendship with the girls work is if they have a common “enemy” to fight against. Originally it was Alison who knew all their secrets and manipulated the girls with them, and then later Mona did the same thing as A. So Aria picked the game up from Mona, adopting this Alison-esque persona and pretended to be innocent the entire time. She did feel betrayed that Ezra was writing his book the entire time but figured she could use the information he collected to her advantage. Like Alison she manipulates Jason and Noel to do her bidding. Here we have our A team.
On the other side we have the three girls; Spencer, Hanna, and Emily. Caleb, Toby, and whoever Emily is with at the time, I lost track. Mona later becomes an ally to the girls once out of the A game for good, her brilliance a match for Spencer’s. And then there’s rogue Jenna that always seems to have her own handful of cohorts and only acts on her own behalf.
And the show could have gone on for 2-3 seasons with the girls trying to figure out who A is. Finally it would be revealed that Aria is A when Noel, after secretly working for both Aria and Jenna unbeknownst to each girl, told Jenna the truth when things had gotten too far (Aria planning on kidnapping the girls in the Dollhouse.)
When the girls confront Aria through much difficulty she confesses to everything. She reveals that she had not only killed Maya for knowing the truth but also killed Alison, on the night she disappeared, in a fit of rage when she found out that Alison was blackmailing her (Aria’s) father. Mona then found Alison’s body that night. Thinking that after all the terrible things the girl had done Alison didn’t deserve a proper burial and in a rash decision Mona buried her in the backyard.
The girls would struggle with the idea that their close friend was their tormentor for so long but ultimately they’d sympathize with Aria and tell her that they all miss Alison but they have to move on and they can do that together. Ezra would go to jail (for obvious reasons), and Aria (and maybe Mona too) would go back to Radley this time with her friends to support her as she gets better.
The moral of the story would be that mental illnesses can cause you to do terrible things in the wake of grief or other traumatic catalysts but with the right help and support you can live a good and happy life. Additionally, the show would be a prime example of the repercussions of bullying being that Alison tormented all these people including Aria and the girls but even after she died these people had to deal with the trauma long after she was gone. Your actions don’t end with you, they affect others regardless of your presence in their life.
PLL still could’ve been this salacious teen drama but it also could’ve had all these morals that would be beneficial for younger generations for years to come.”

It's so interesting that you bring up a TVD/PLL crossover because I always had this idea of Elena and Aria potentially being cousins, like, Ella and Isobel could totally be sisters and you can have Elena, who pretty much lost her entire family, try to go looking for her and end up in Rosewood. Or just taking into account how many actors have been on both shows - Maya could've been a Bennett witch. Or Veronica Hastings could originally be from Mystic Falls and a part of one of the founding families (I feel like the Fells would be an obvious choice since Torey Devitto played both Melissa and Meredith Fell).

Emily could’ve been SUCH an interesting character I can’t stand the extent to which they let her become a filler. I know they didn’t wanna go for aria in the end because people guessed it, but if they made it Alison and Mona, then showed backstory where Mona became Alison’s background bestie/ minion it would’ve been everything. And maybe unpopular opinion but if all the girls died in the end except Alison and Mona and they still went on to do their own spin off that would’ve been SO interesting

Hey! I think you should make a video about "The Lying Game" & "The perfectionists" I personally think they are the best books of Sara and the adaptations were not. Specially with The Lying Game book series, pretty good reading and interesting history but the reveal was really flat. Those books deserved sooooo much more. Psd: I LOVE your videos

Sorry my UA-cam just crashed, but it's interesting you say Blair and Serena, from Gossip Girl would be good on PLL, (Alison was going to end up like the first one it seemed, (but worse and by that I mean a better mean girl), but she ended up more like Serena (and I think that's what a lot of fans resent they want her to be more like in the books Ali).
If you compare pll books and series, what's the best. I would definitely change some storylines in series and go with the books.
Unfortunatelyortunately none of the 6 lead actresses of PLL (Sasha, Janel, Troian, Lucy, Ashley and Shay), have really done much with their post PLL careers 🙀😿😾 and it's sad because a lot of them are really good actors in fact I think they all are except maybe for Shay Mitchell.

Im just restarted pll for the millionth time and JUST noticed another (small) inconsistency- in the pilot when aria goes into the pub and meets ezra she orders a cheeseburger but then throughout the show there’s so many references to her being vegan/vegetarian 😂 i guess she could’ve made that switch later in the show and wasnt at the time of the pilot but it just made me laugh a little
