Glad we can agree. I'm a huge Jun Maeda fan, and I think this is his 'darkest' piece of work. It is not only a social commentary about mental illnesses, but also a very philosophical piece of work that makes you ruminate about the whole concept of association.
@@arkamukherjee457 I don't know what people expected for an ending. If Hina got her powers back that would've defeated the whole purpose. If she died that last episode it would've felt far more rushed then people say it is. The ending is tragic because you KNOW she'll never be the same and you KNOW that she won't survive long in any environment. However knowing that the fun they had was genuinely from her, and knowing that Hina being in the guys life (forgot his name lol) incentivises him to explore medical field related to her disease brings a level of realism not present in his other works. Angel Beats deals with the afterlife and Charlotte has super powers. This had a quantum computer (something that could exist within the next century or so) and that's it. This is the most realistic work Jun Maeda has made and I'm all here for it.

I think one of the key themes Jun Maeda wanted to talk about is, "Do people really become a shell of themselves after mental illnesses?", and I think it delves into the dark history of the monstrosity of Lobotomy. In the 1940s-1950s, Lobotomy was done on a lot of people in Japan, and Hina's change resembles that to a degree.
The ending of Kamisama Ni Natta Hi was very close to Tomoyo After's ending in some ways, and that's what makes it a brilliant anime. I was moved by this anime more than some of Maeda-san's other works, and I pray that he continues writing works this impactful.

Yanagi Nagi-san just fills her music with such emotion, I was on the edge of tears, remembering what happened at the end of The Day I Became God. The intro and outro were simply beautiful!!!!

My girlfriend and I broke up two months ago. I have been crying listening to this song literally every night ever since. It reminds me of her so much and breaks my heart into pieces whenever I listen to. I realize, my love for her hasn't changed at all... I miss her, however she will never do the same I know... Even so, all the days and memories we spent together, I will treasure it all from bottom of my heart and wish for a day we would meet each other again...
I'll be a teacher in the Future (i Hope) and I think this anime is one of those stories,which I would like to show my future students (also Koe no Katachi, Barakamono,Angel Beats, Clannad etc.) to make discussion of important things in life. I was really enjoying this story, also I cried a lot. I've already watched over 200 anime and just some of them moved me so much,that I could remember it after decades. I think it's one of those gems,which are really underated- just because they are slice of life.
Hope you'll reach your goal. We're in need of teachers with fresh mindsets to raise kids and teens teaching them moral values and empathy instead of just fill them up with notions they'll forget right after an exam

The day I became a God I thought it was just a fantasy story
but the plot twist made me sad and really interested in the story
Just a recommendation try watching or reading the manga
'Toilet bound Hanako-kun' the story is dark fantasy & rom-com
the story behind 'Hanako' who is a ghost and Yashiro his human assistant,
also the other characters has their backstory
(how they died since most of the characters in this Anime are ghost)
not similar to The day I became a God but its a romcom-ish at first but when the plot twist was revealed it becomes a sad slice of life :'D

Even if this isn't the saddest anime of all time, it is the saddest one that Maeda ever wrote. Even more so then Clannad, as only Kami Sama ni natta hi had an ending where something was irreversably lost.
So, yeah, he did what he went out to do. And the viewers ... for some reason... didn't appreciate it. I don't know why.

Even though I am a fan of jun maeda and compare this work with others, I find something special in it and I was moved to tears at the end. I don't quite understand all these fans who are trying their hard, maybe they are trying to be difficult. It may be a matter of taste but I was really moved by the end, so even though there are some that I prefer, like Clannad, I can't stay at this work. I cannot remain so indifferent to bad feedback, it is not pleasant to see that what you like does not please very much.

@@NaGaMaaaa I think its the problem with anime fans here in the west, they have some really weird expectations form anime they watch and at least 80% of MAL, Kitsu and AL users has some of the most retarded scoring systems, dropping shows with a score 7/10, considering 8/10 an average show, rating a good show low, but than rating a show thats actually far worse and super predictable and boring as a masterpiece. I start to think the majority of anime fans here in the west are angsty depressed and super pessimistic ppl, considering they think that you should have more scores for bad anime than for average and good.

the anime is good but the ending is alittle bit dissapointing and sad atleast she didn't die.
I think you missed the two scenes where Hina was smiling, sure she lost her Godhood, sure the sickness returned, but unlike her parents she now has ppl who are willing to love her and take care of her as she is. I dont think it was disappointing, because just those two smiles beat everything Hina was up to this point.

The series had potential. But the male lead was just plain annoying and unlikable. Imagine if this had CLANNAD or Kanon's protag.
