Kateri, Just as I watched this the sun was setting and two rosied clouds floated across the tree tops and remained as tho they were puffs of springtime...your video is so lovely and what a wonderful idea...to send someone joy...it gives us all not just permission to create etagami but a gentle push to just paint...listen to your heart and send joy to someone who needs it... Thank you so much...you who gently push us into the world to make art....
This is so beautiful!! There is such beauty in simplicity and spontaneity!! Your art and lovely voice are gifts that calm the heart in this chaotic world!! Thank you!!! 💜🇨🇦
I love your videos! What an interesting idea.i hope I can carve out some down time this week to try this. Thanks so much for the info. I used to try to write Haiku, now that's fun to include what/ the eregami!
Akashiya make stationery and art supplies and do those nice gansai selections, like Kuretake too. The little sets are often used for etagami. Thanks for posting this video, which is lovely, and gives a nice explanation of it. So hard to find out more. though I have seen examples online so your info is welcome. I had no idea you could get special paper. Hahnemuhle also do nice postcards in a pretty tin which can be reused. They have rounded corners. I would love to make a chop, so shall be looking in again. I need the ethos of etagami!
Thank you for something different. I love most things Japanese and feel inspired to try this. Imagine receiving a hand painted picture from someone I would keep it forever. Also I would be interested in learning how to make your own chop.
Very Beautiful...yes, I would be interested in making a chop...I have thought about making cards to send with messages to people. I save those cards that fall out of magazines and have a pile. Of course, will have to prep the surface first. I am also in the beginnings of decluttering, simplifying, taking steps to minimalize my life And have been searching the meaning of wabi-sabi, in life and in my art. Love this form of art!
Inspirational video, thank you! I would love to see a video on how to make and personalize a chop. Is the dandelion stamp considered a signature as much as the chop? What’s the difference -if any- in using both stamps?
thank you Kateri............so peaceful and relaxing.............it so spontaneous and there is a true beauty in that for me...............I've spent years trying to master Sumi-e painting and traditional watercolors, and often have felt overwhelmed..........when that happens, I tend to want to paint less as it is frustrating and not enjoyable...........I think that the best practice in learning is perhaps to allow some time for peaceful spontaneous work like this, and also devote at least some time to learning things that can be intimidating, like perspective, sighting (which so far I don't feel gives me good results, but I will keep practicing), loading of the brush with different colors to give tonality, etc.............it is all really beautiful and does have a place in the journey of learning.............but to spend at least some time, with no expectations, no do-overs, etc. can be freeing and quite lovely....................truly inspirational : )
Yes! This practice is for all people, including no professional artists and those who have absolutely no desire to be a professional artist. For me, my professional work is so refined and painstakingly created that I need practices like this to feel creative and free and joyful. It allows me to inhabit a different place as a creator, a maker. And it allows me to share my joy with others- the real essence of this practice.
Thank you for this video ! I love that these cards are made with love and sent in the post. Every detail is beautiful. I belong to postcrossing.com which is all about connecting with others through sending postcards. I feel very inspired to give etegami a try :)
I thought Etegami begins with a loose black outline of something in front of you. This is totally different from tutorials I’ve watched. Thanks though. It’s interesting.
Love this so much!!! thank you for sharing.

Cheryl Clough I’m trying with the haiku. I think just let it happen and don’t judge it. The more write, the easier it will become 💗

thank you..........very much appreciated and inspirational!
Lovely. I heard you were supposed to paint an object in front of you, and typically with sumi ink. But I like that you do it your own way.
I am definitely not doing it justice! But good to start somewhere :) xo

Wow, postcrossing sounds really cool! And I’m thrilled you will try etegami!
where do you get an artist stamp?
I carved mine with a nail file into a piece of soapstone I bought at a Nepalese store in SoHo.
I will !

It is absolutely not traditional. But my
Own take on it. I probably should not call it etegami, but inspired by etegami.
This is my new favourite video! Anything soothing & of meaning. 🧘♀️
