      Except for how to wire the 2 pole breaker, they didn't explain much at all, what do you mean ?

    • @helveticainc
      @helveticainc  2 роки тому

      Hey bud, I’m not sure what you mean by the 2 pole breaker besides the actual breaker switch itself on some applications. In which case the only wiring we as plumbers touch, is the whip/pigtail coming OUT of that breaker which is 3 wires. Ground, neutral and live. We did show that part of the wiring in the video - if you need to have an actual 2 pole breaker wired in, I’d recommend calling an Electrician, or finding some tutorials from electricians here on UA-cam as I don’t know much about electrical besides the 3 wire leads.

    I liked your video and hit like .Only thing maybe you can add is the FIRST thing to say is always Turn OFF breaker .You did mention it twice but after touching wires but you Should dub it in to the beginning of video .It really is important .Could be dangerous as well as costly.You would be surprised how many people dont think of that or even forget when they get to comfortable doing this stuff .Otherwise PERFECT !!!

    The manufacturers of the wire nuts DO not recommend pre-twisting. If that's an issue just use wago connectors

    If the circuit breaker is not "within sight" or in the same room as the water heater, then a separate disconnect or switch box may be by code required to be adjacent to the water heater.

    Do you not twist your wires first before putting on the wire nut? Like you do in wiring electrical receptacles and switches? Or does that not matter? I was always taught to twist wires together first before wire nutting. If there is a reason not to please let me here some input. Thanks for the great video!

    • @sharlonkoodie5143
      @sharlonkoodie5143 2 роки тому +2

      @@hunterlarson1996 Yes that is true but sometimes the wire nut does not twist enough to make a strong connection and then one wire ends up working its way back out causing issues. Always a good thing to twist first then wire nut as well to verify a secure connection. I have had many instances where i just pulled on the wire and it came right out of the wire nut since it tiwisted it incorrectly. Just that little extra time goes a long way in helping future issues.

    I R&R both thermostats on my 50 gal WH. Didn’t drain unit. When I turned breaker on, I smelled burned wires. Turns out the burned wires are same as the wires you guys just installed in this video. One wire burned through the wire nut. WH had water in it. Only issue I found was home depot gave me wrong thermostats. The voltage is correct (4500) but after checking the internet, discovered Rheem changed my17 year old heater’s thermostat serial numbers. Ordered correct units. Could the wrong thermostat have caused this issue?

      I’ve seen this once before and the heater was working with no problem, but we changed the power cord as it was a plugged in 220 not hardwire. but I would assume it may cause a safety hazard if it ever grounded or discharged power to the metal heater casing somehow, but I’m not an electrician and I’m not sure what the consequences of not having it are. Just replaced with one that had ground wire to be safe.

    • @jacobmckee5862
      @jacobmckee5862 2 роки тому

      In this case, both the black and white wire coming out if the wall are "hot" or "energized" because both black are white wires are connected to, most likely, a double pole 30 amp breaker (assuming that the black and white wire are 10awg). Each wire is carrying 120v and the water heater black and red wires require 120v to work. So it doesn't matter what color the wires are, as long as they are carrying the required 120v each.
