This transports me back to my college apartment in 2007. I can almost feel the side swept bangs again and the breeze on my exposed butt crack (low rise jeans anyone?)
Less then one million views on this song... Just shows how many people are missing out on real music... I love you Rilo Kiley this song breaks my heart in so many ways.
A lot of their songs break my heart, but for me More Adventurous and Ripchord top that list. I find their music cathartic when I am sad and having a hard time expressing it so they end up getting attached to sad memories and becoming even more poignant.
Well if you're honest they were just parroting songs from the early 90's. I mean it's basically "Lady Radiohead" doing "Creep". It's not a bad song, but you can't ignore the fact that its derivative.
Damn , I'm in my 50 ' s and really love hard rock, but as well love all kinds of music, and I have to admit, I love this track, I just heard it on Alt Nation on Sirius, I believe this girl is going places, reminds me of such artists like Chris Hynes, Deborah Harry, Joan Jett, Belinda Carlisle, Lita Ford and so on. I gotta grow ol, I mean mature, but I REFUSE to GROW UP! Love it man!
Listen, I’m 56 and have been listening to this song since 2005-6. It still rocks and always will. Thx to WFUV in NYC for including it on their annual CD of fresh music in 2005. Had never heard of Rilo Kiley before then. Now I listen to their music all the time.
This has been my theme song for almost a decade. still love it as much as then. Maybe less of a theme song now, more a favourite song. Seriously can't get enough of it
Still listening to this all these years later! I introduced this to an 18-year-old today. Rilo Kiley is timeless and this song is classic. (And I have no idea what the Grey's Anatomy references are, sorry)
"I'm going to take a shower and when I get back down here you won't be here so goodbye...umm.." "Derek", "Derek right, Meredith", *cue music* "*laughs* bye Derek" That's all I can think of when I hear this song, seriously one of my favorite openings to a show ever and the music is just amazing! "Like I said....I'm screwed"
I’m here because of Better Daughter/Son played at the end of Hannah Gadsby’s Netflix special “Nanette”.... and I stayed a bit longer. I’ll be 70 next year and work like this lands very differently when the time it could have really helped was 50 years ago. Age does NOT diminish the thrill of necessary things said perfectly, and tho I won’t learn it or sing it in the car, “Better Daughter/Son” covers ground I’ve lived on all my life and sill haven’t left completely. ...And LOL -if there ARE folks my age writing songs about it, I don’t think I want to hear them ;-)
I heard this jam way back when it was on mtv and found it again a few years ago and it’s still one of my go to songs in 2020 I loved BMW and the wizard / troop BH!
I heard it for the first time in the 90's, still very young and I still can't get it out of my head, I remember that my favorite radio played it very often and even today it still plays it and I don't stop singing it every time I listen to it 😁
Huh, listened to this since spring of 05, never made the connection. Grew up in the era of Zep, Stones, Skynard, AC/DC, etc...and this song is in the top 100 all time rockin song.
Listening to Rilo Kiley since their Saddle Creek days. I discover music by looking for it. That's how you support and discover great music. I don't wait to hear it on TV shows or video games.
First heard this song because I took an mmorpg friend's playlist looking for new music probably around 13-14 years ago. I'm a picky person why it comes to music, even though I enjoy a wide range of genre's. It made the cut.
EVERYONE IS SAYING "oh, i always think of Grey's whenever I hear this song" AND WHEN I WATCHED THE FIRST EPISODE I WAS LIKE "...thats Rilo Kiley... THIS IS GONNA BE AN AMAZING SHOW HAHHAHHAHAH" *DANCES TO SONG*
In a way, the lyrics to this song describe Meredith's feelings for Derek on Grey's Anatomy, especially in Season 1. Meredith is the reason I stuck with Grey's and watched all 8 seasons in about 5 months. I didn't realize how great this song was until the alternative universe episode. That's why I love this song.
They were a great band. I listened to them almost non-stop for a few years. I have every version of Take-Offs and Landings, and Jenny You're Barely Alive. But after listening to their music for so many years, I got sick of it. Even though my music library play count says I've listened to Rilo Kiley several thousand times, I just can't feel like listening to it anymore. This was one of their best songs. I hope that some day I want to listen to it again.
...its hard to explain but, I think its all related to the way people see things, I think that affects also the way you talk, write and everything. Well, I appreciate your answer too much... by just explaining that simple sentence you made me catch the whole lyric. Thanks so much!
there's a reason they have used it 3 times in the 8th season they used it in the episode where meredith thought about what would have happened if things were different(or sth like that :P ) in the 9th season they used when Jo the intern was going up with that elevator to indicate that these interns are like meredith, yand and the rest... and also it's a great song!
Perfect for first day on Seattle!
😭😭😭🔥💕
🙌
Now I get why this song was chosen. The lead singer looks like Meredith, and also the young Ellis Grey.
😔
This transports me back to my college apartment in 2007. I can almost feel the side swept bangs again and the breeze on my exposed butt crack (low rise jeans anyone?)
Yeah the transporter 2 back in 07 was a good movie. I was working in a kitchen then. Lots of good movies around that time.
Hopefully this message reminds you to transport yourself back there once again. 2007 was a good year 😊
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!
😅😅😅😊😅😅
Lmao yesss
I think Rilo Kiley is the most underrated band of the Millennium. I even think they're one of the greatest of my generation.
One of the best bands of the millennium? That's a no brainer. Unfortunately they don't have a lot of competition.
Bashful Nish
ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY!
Plus a thousand
Great songs - unfortunately Hip Hop owns popular culture now. Rock now knows what Swing felt like.
re-watching grey's, holy crap they use this song a LOT
i started rewatching last night, I remember when I first started watching it and they always used this song life was so much simpler then
Wow. This is so nostalgic. Takes me back to 2006-2007. I was only 16-17. Highschool days without a care in the world!
It sounds pretty cool. I only discovered this because I looked up the character she played in The Golden Girls.
@@sharronjoy4816 what did she??? I LOVE the golden girls!
Rip George 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 miss him, Cristina and Izzie sfm and I think of them whenever I hear this song
I didn't realize how old this song is. And I'm surprised that not so many people know it. It has the make up of a modern classic.
I'm surprised as well... A long time has gone know. This song is so great.
All these years later I still get goosebumps when Jenny says COMMEERE
I'm here from a free artist preview cd I got from Walmart back in 2005-2006. Beat that!
A girl sent me this song in 7th grade and I was obsessed with her for 4 years 💔
Less then one million views on this song... Just shows how many people are missing out on real music... I love you Rilo Kiley this song breaks my heart in so many ways.
Well let's get it to a million!
A lot of their songs break my heart, but for me More Adventurous and Ripchord top that list. I find their music cathartic when I am sad and having a hard time expressing it so they end up getting attached to sad memories and becoming even more poignant.

It's not a bad song, but you can't ignore the fact that its derivative.
Derivative? Maybe, maybe not, but face it, it's all derivative, right? Still can't deny it's a great tune
It's pretty skippable.
I had never heard of Rilo Kiley or Jenny Lewis and then I watched a Very Murray Christmas last night.
This chick rocks... on several levels.
2021 16 years old and loving Rilo Kiley, didn’t discover them till last summer, I wish I could have seen them before the split
2024, 19 years old, still coming back 😌
Damn , I'm in my 50 ' s and really love hard rock, but as well love all kinds of music, and I have to admit, I love this track, I just heard it on Alt Nation on Sirius, I believe this girl is going places, reminds me of such artists like Chris Hynes, Deborah Harry, Joan Jett, Belinda Carlisle, Lita Ford and so on. I gotta grow ol, I mean mature, but I REFUSE to GROW UP! Love it man!
Well she's sort of been there and come back again, lost her way a bit in recent years, could still come good again but best route would be with RK.
Listen, I’m 56 and have been listening to this song since 2005-6. It still rocks and always will. Thx to WFUV in NYC for including it on their annual CD of fresh music in 2005. Had never heard of Rilo Kiley before then. Now I listen to their music all the time.
60 years old here and love this!!!
This has been my theme song for almost a decade. still love it as much as then. Maybe less of a theme song now, more a favourite song. Seriously can't get enough of it
They are quickly becoming one of my all time favorite bands.
+Joe Moses I hope you're not looking for new material - ha ha
RIP Rilo Kiley
I'm currently obsessed with A better son/daughter. And by currently, I mean I've listened to it about a million times over the past year.
How can you not love this song and this band???
Wow is the Dude! 11 years later
All Im gonna say is... Greys Anatomy... oh and... "Im screwed' :)
😭😭😭😭😭🔥💔
🙌
this would have done so well in the early 90s
totally
or if it was called "Bad News" people might find it easier
never hurt Bohemian Rhapsody
@@JoshH4678 You're sadly correct.
when a guitar based song could get on the charts
Thank you RB3! This song is eternally stuck in my head and I am loving it!

Rilo Kiley knocks me out! Their music is magical.
This is one of my favourite songs of all time.
still loving this song!!!!!! 2014 (high school memories, college days, hair bangs, discovering life, partying, friends, getting into bad news)
I’m here because of Better Daughter/Son played at the end of Hannah Gadsby’s Netflix special “Nanette”.... and I stayed a bit longer.

Made out with a beautiful girl in Boston on Halloween to this song while at a party. Great memories.
Every time I listen this song is take me right back to the time it came out. So nostalgic already, feels like it was just yesterday, love you jenny!!!
i just got their album, More Adventurous, yesterday. Simply amazing!
I heard this jam way back when it was on mtv and found it again a few years ago and it’s still one of my go to songs in 2020 I loved BMW and the wizard / troop BH!
Thanj you girls like girls your book brought me here ❤
me too!
The secret to understanding Rilo Kiley is knowing that they're a country band
This song will make me just as happy when I'm 85. Pop is timeless.
This album was so integral to my senior year of high school! Love this song!
I heard it for the first time in the 90's, still very young and I still can't get it out of my head, I remember that my favorite radio played it very often and even today it still plays it and I don't stop singing it every time I listen to it 😁
90s? This song came out in 2004.
When female led rock bands are good, they are soooo good. Rilo Kiley is proof of this.
So many local/scene bands could/should cover this song live.
Soon as her voice came on I got hit with a rush of nostalgia. Wow.
can't believe such low view count for such a great band / song. biggest babe in real music for over a decade gnome sayin
It's been years since I've heard this song! It's such a unique masterpiece and rilo kiley were awesome
Awesome band, awesome song and great post - thanks
Nearly forgot how perfect this is in every way
A masterpiece.....love the Psalm 63 reference ? ("portions for foxes")
Huh, listened to this since spring of 05, never made the connection. Grew up in the era of Zep, Stones, Skynard, AC/DC, etc...and this song is in the top 100 all time rockin song.
I miss this band so damn much!

Now I feel old. Sup?

Hi Jenny-I just fond you and your music +Rilo Kiley. I have allot of catching up to do. Thanks for the beautiful music.🥀🥀🥀🥀 Brian Birch !!
Fantastic song from the new millennium. Poignant. Life was good for me back then.
This song always reminds me of my friend. Some people cause so much damage when they get lonely.

Excellent commentary about the uses and attachments people form for each other. Great song.
I saw these guys open for Coldplay in 2004 in NC......awesome show

The book Faking It by Cora Carmack got me here!
Ahh...just reliving the greatness.
This song is so 1999. The vibe is nostalgic not to mention electric.
Released in 2004, dude.
I wasn't even born when this came out, but I think it gives 2005 vibes.
Who needs karaoke when you got Rilo!!
This group is essential in my life.

Being 12 and stoked on this beauty music, anyone?
Salute your shorts' Blake Sennets career brought me here.
First heard this song because I took an mmorpg friend's playlist looking for new music probably around 13-14 years ago.
I'm a picky person why it comes to music, even though I enjoy a wide range of genre's. It made the cut.
I love Rilo Kiley. :) More Adventurous is a great album.
this song always reminds me of early Grey's Anatomy episodes :)
Ikrr😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
No
Love this band, shame only heard them from a Spotify playlist in 2020
She reminds of one of my favorite singers, Melissa Johnson. You've probably never heard of her.
mystery = suprise = passion
no mystery = loss of passion
loss of passion = slow fade of love?
another Rilo Kiley song :)
Jenny Lewis is the very best at making you think the deep thoughts and feel the deep feels. At least for me.
this song alternately makes me sad and inspired. I love this band.
Stompingly good tune!!
rockband 3 brought me here. one of my favorites off the game!!!!
You may officially be the first person to predict Grey's future XD
I can't claim that. I'm pretty sure I became a Rilo Kiley fan in 2006/2007. But you're awesome.

All I know about Grey's Anatomy is that it's popular? What is it
Saw them support Bright Eyes about 14 years ago!

...its hard to explain but, I think its all related to the way people see things, I think that affects also the way you talk, write and everything.
Well, I appreciate your answer too much... by just explaining that simple sentence you made me catch the whole lyric. Thanks so much!
I had never heard this song until i saw that Transit covered it so I decided to check it out and it's way good. :) I love both versions
Perfect song for your first day of surgical residency ;)
Videos need to stop cutting down the songs. Leaving this page for full version
such an amazing voice, srsly.
I loved this before I’d ever seen an episode of grey’s ... she’s bomb
If we weren't so different, we would be perfect for each other.
there's a reason they have used it 3 times
in the 8th season they used it in the episode where meredith thought about what would have happened if things were different(or sth like that :P )
in the 9th season they used when Jo the intern was going up with that elevator to indicate that these interns are like meredith, yand and the rest...
and also it's a great song!
They used it 5 times now 😄🔥
Grey's Anatomy brought me here! :D
Same 😭💕 rip George

The unaired pilot of The Big Bang Theory brought me here.

I just discovered her music via a romance novel! I think the author based the main character, Max on the Rilo Kiley! Cool.
My friend Heather being a fan of Rilo Kiley sent me here :)
