I think the engineering challenges of having an autonomous electric front drive unit completely separate from the ICE rear drive and getting the car to be balanced in every condition and use case must have been enormous. I think its groundbreaking. I liken this eRay system to a Formula 1 Energy Recovery System KERS which is used to capture waste energy created while braking and transform it into electrical energy for additional horsepower. I think all the time testing was because of this groundbreaking design.
Thing I found interesting is only 1 Stingray and 6 eRays (1 was a cut away) in the Chevy Tent. No Z06's. No Engine cut-aways like they have done in the past. No DCT cut-away like they did in the past. Seemed like 1/2 the Corvette Engineers that they have send in the past. No give-away posters till Saturday, and they were the same ones as they handed out years in past. No Corvette Accessories display like years in the past. And finally, 1/5th the amount of Engineer Presentations (only 2 a day and most were repeats).
I agree, much like the popular Audi/Porsche Nardo Grey metallic. The eRay wheel choices are outstanding and hopefully because they are Forged won't have cracking problems of the C7.
The color seems to be very close to my daughters Nardo Gray Audi TT. Both Sea Wolf Gray Tri-coat and Nardo Gray have a subtle metallic flake which makes the car dazzle in the sunlight.
Ordered mine in Hypersonic Gray with red interior, as I'm number one at my dealer. After consideration and a risk taker I've switched to See Wolf Gray. Carbon flash race strips with red accent lines, red calipers. Carbon fiber ground effects and every other trim, carbon flash. I'm hoping it's stunning
That will be one stunning Corvette combination for sure! Don't forget the red seat belts too. Look at the popular Porsche/Audi Nardo Gray Metallic, I bet its very close to the new Sea Wolf Gray.
I can't wait to see the auto magazines test drives articles when the news embargo is lifted for their October editions. I think it also has a good shot for Motor Trend Car of the Year too.
I want to ask these three top engineers..... On a head to head race on any given race course, a stock Z06 vs. stock Eray, which would win that race? Good question I think. No one is asking this very important question. Because the Eray could just be the bastard sibling if it is shunned from racing and seem irrelevant, or it could be revolutionary as statistically it is a higher performance car in early acceleration all the way to one eighth mile.
LOL, my thoughts exactly. They are very "Hush Hush" when it comes to the E-Ray vs Z06. IMO, if you put them head to head, I think Z06 would beat the E-Ray. HOWEVER, it wouldn't be by much. If you put both of them on the track, I think Z06 would beat E-Ray by 0.1 - 0.3 and that's why they are being VERY QUIET about it. It is that "BASTARD Sibling" indeed!!!
@@maximus2387 you do know the Eray is faster to 60 and way faster to quarter mile than the Z06 right. Those are facts. Now string it together on a road course and what do you get?
They test the Corvette at Nürburgring in the Eifel region of Germany early September every year when the track is closed to all but car manufacturers. That is the best place for lap times for a comparison (if they ever publish them or if they get clean runs). They also test at VIR in Virginia. My guess is the eRay will have full power on the track for for a couple of hard miles where it will get really quick times from the 655 HP, but on Nürburgring ~15+ miles that will leave a lot of space between recharge that it only has 495 HP with ~200 more weight than the Corvette Stingray Z51. On a single lap at Nürburgring Z06 will win hands down and probably the same on most tracks as the eRay will be gasping for a charge. My guess on a clean lap is the Z06 does around the 7:00 lap time, the Stingray did in the 7:29 lap time and the eRay is probably closer to the Stingray versus the Z06. The one to watch will be the twin turbo version of the Z06 probably called the ZR1, my guess if it has active aero and weather conditions are good that it will challenge for the ~6:35 track record. If the ZR1 is going to be a 2025 then it will be testing there early September, if not we will have to wait a year.
@@MDK_9950 good point. I'm not an expert in race track nuance. However, most interviews with Eray engineers state that the battery recharge is uncanny and almost hard to deplete. My thoughts were generated by a combination of those suggestions. I guess only a driver or an astute race observer could identify a track's breaking and non braking stretches, all combined, could the Eray battery possibly return charged after a complete lap? Hence why I'd like to see an actual race rather than hyperbole. I think you have a valid suggestion that could be true as well.
Tadge, spend more time on production, so greedy FM dealers wont charge ADMs. Many of us will NEVER overpay for any car. This is the reason I left Ford cars years ago.
All your speeches meaning nothing when my local dealer charges me $10kk over MSRP or will no longer take orders for any model year C8 Corvette. INCREASE production NOT models
They were asked this question later on in the video, their answer... dealers are independent businesses and can charge whatever their market will allow. I believe Team Corvette is doing their part by increase the supply from 2022s 25,831 produced to 2023s "...near record breaking 53,807..." production maybe replacing 2009 #1 production record. You can see that Corvette supply effect in the recent used C8 market price declines, most dealers getting only MSRP on new Stingrays and recent slow decline (a painfully slow decline as i await mine) in ADMs on Z06's. I can only hope they turn way up the production spigot on the Z06 production for 2024 and get way more than their Z06 record for 2023 of 1,000 in one month. We need this each and every month for '24. Only way to get rid of these outragious Z06 ADMs is to increase supply.
WOW, great representation video of Carlisle 2023! 🏎️ Keep up the Great White North Corvette content Andrew! 🇨🇦 👏
32:14 states Eray exceeded all previous passing test data for corvettes. That’s very impressive.

What about Z06’s engine 🕰️💣 Ticking ❓

This car in Wolf Gray looks great The wheels and black interior work well together. Very nice car.

Love that color. I have a 2023 C8 Elkart Blue which I love, but this Sea Wolf Grey might be my favorite now.

Very possibly the best grand tour sports car ever made period. That includes every Porsche,Aston or Ferrari ever made, and im dead serious.

@@jwmphotogExactly, they already have a video of an E-ray beating the Z06 0-60 and 1/4 mile.
