Hi Tom! I just want to say how happy I am that you discovered Jay Kristoff this year. I found him LAST year, and *inhaled* The Vampire and Nevernight books. Now I'm waiting desperately for book 3 of the Empire trilogy. My find of the year in 2024 has been Matt Dinniman. The insane amount of presence the Dungeon Crawler Carl books has this year pushed even MY fomo into making me pick up book 1. That was only in August. It's my most re-read series this year. I'm even on my THIRD re-read of the recently released book 7. The audio of DCC also introduced me to the gobsmackingly brilliant production quality of Soundbooth Theater and I can only hope this becomes the benchmark for audiobooks in future.
DCC is a series I want to give a try but im not 100% sure it will be for me. However, hearing that the audio is next level is something I love to hear. I really hope we get the next Empire book in 2025 though I fear it maybe a 2026 book.
@@TomOrange I'm pretty sure it'll be LATE '25 or early '26 before we learn Gabe's fate. As for DCC, I picked it up being reasonably sure I wouldn't 'hate' it, but wanting to understand the fuss. While the audio is without doubt a superior way to engage with the story - the ebooks are on Kindle Unlimited - give it a go, I'm pretty sure you won't hate it either.
I read Kristof's Empire books this year as well. they are beautiful, impactful and funny too. ( I literally typed this about 10 seconds before you said impactful, funny)
Heeeck yes for Kristoff! I'd be super curious to hear your thoughts on Nevernight because that is still my OG fave as it got me back into reading, but I can totally see why people bounce off it so often. Also very eager to get more into King myself! Discovering new authors is so fun. I have read 74 new to me authors this year and there were definitely some new favourites in there, such as Rachel Aaron, Tia Williams, and Kerstin Hall.
Glad you’ve been liking Stephen King! You likely want to read The Stand before you read Dark Tower. That and Salems Lot are pretty essential. One of my favorite new authors this year is definitely Flannery O’Connor. She’s a classic American short story author and an absolute genius. Her stories “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and “Parker’s Back” are amazing!
I'd be careful with recommending The Stand, it's not a book for everyone and even me as a King fan found it quite disappointing. Salem's Lot is great. IT is excellent. Pet Sematary is great as well.
Awesome list here Tom! Reading the Empire books (I don’t think that’s the name) have made me want to read more Kristoff. I really need to read Durfee’s books.
Fun video 🎉 Don't skip over Wars of Light and Shadow. Janny blew my mind. Gareth Hanrahan's Gutter Prayer is still in my top 5 from January 🤪 Hyperion is a top 20 all time now 🤯 Mike Shel, Ruocchio, E.L. Montague, Dave Buzan, Robert Jackson Bennett, and Dyrk Ashton come to mind off the top 🤔
I just did a similar video but I might spoil that my favorite new to me authors I have tried in 2024 was James Baldwin. :) Hope you get to explore many more new to you voices in 2025 and find new favorites!
Guest appearance by Siri lol. I've been reading some Stephen King this year and have really enjoyed the books. I'm preparing for the Dark Tower myself. I'll have to check out some of these other authors you mentioned. Thanks for covering the books. Great video as usual!
Nice idea. You're making me need to check my own list now...34 new authors me! That's for prose only. I'm actually surprised the number is that high because I read a lot of multiples from the same authors this year.
get rocking on 5 Warrior Angels before you forget it all!
I have some planned changes coming to the channel that should help with not forgetting!
It is thick 😝

AWESOME! I can't believe I'd not made a spreadsheet for the books / authors I've read. I'm making that now!
its a very handy tool

I really hope we get book three in 2025. I know his done writing it

74! that's awesome. I have a feeling next year I wont try as many new ones
@@TomOrange you did so great this year, can't blame you for reading more by all the new faves you discovered!

I’ve heard that for the Dark Tower. Now I just have to fit in the massive book that is The Stand. I may have to check that author out.
@ Yeah I read The Stand two years ago in December……….its all I read in December.
I'd be careful with recommending The Stand, it's not a book for everyone and even me as a King fan found it quite disappointing. Salem's Lot is great. IT is excellent. Pet Sematary is great as well.
@ hey that’s fair. The Stand is pretty divisive. I like maybe 70% of it, but I do think it’s required if you’re reading through Dark Tower.

I tried to see if I could find the name of the series but all my google search turned up is The Empire of the Vampire series
I’ve not heard of The Mount Crown, and now I really want to check it out! Great list!
I think it released in early October but it seems to be pretty under the radar. I was actually the first person to leave it a rating on audible.
Fun video 🎉

@TomOrange it is brilliant 🤯

I hope so too!

Amazing authors.❤

@TomOrange Its gonna be the goat trilogy.😁
Enjoying Raraku part from Deadhouse Gates atm

Im slightly nervous about The Dark Tower just because I hear it can be really weird but I think I have enough Faith in King at this point.
Nice idea. You're making me need to check my own list now...34 new authors me! That's for prose only. I'm actually surprised the number is that high because I read a lot of multiples from the same authors this year.
That’s awesome. I know you are on track for 100 books this year so I’m sure that helps
A time of changes sounds rad
its a scifi book from the 70s so it has its problems but I had a great time with it
Oh no a hot booktuber (respectfully)
Lol
Can you purchase the Edan Trilogy from Barnes & Noble?
I believe you can from their online shop!
@TomOrange thanks Tom!
