Currently reading Death's End, and wow! You really found the words to describe my thoughts on this trilogy. Just the leaps in modes of thought humanity goes through in different time periods - insane! En enemy becomes a saint all of a sudden. So interesting and eerily realistic
Ohhhhhhh yes. The Dune politics are done actually so well. I don’t typically think about it when political fantasy/sci-fi is brought up but such a good pick. I can’t wait to get to Janny Wurts’s series. So stoked to see the machinations And the further I get away from forgetting moon the more I’m desiring to return to that world
This was a very good selection. I would add books 2 & 3 from ‘The Age of Madness’ trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, and books 2 & 3 from ‘The Green Bone Saga’ by Fonda Lee. In both series the story deals heavily with domestic and international politics that shape the decisions of the main characters.
I've watched your channel awhile now and it's just so good, and I really like this video too. I don't know if you've read Dune Messiah but it is probably the most political book I've read, its worth it and my favourite in the Dune series, but, even for its small page count, it was suprisingly hard to read for me.
I'd recommend David Weber's Honor Harrington series as one of the best political series in SF. The politics in the PRH, Manticor, and the Solarian League are crucial to the plot in almost every book. Another I'd recommend is Katherine Kurtz's Deryni series, which is heavily focused on the politics of the kingdom led by Kelson. ETA: I nearly forgot about the Midkemia series, mostly by Raymond Feist. The politics of Midkemia drive much of the plot of the series.
Great list. You're the second person that's talked about the Fireborne series (the other being Elliot Brooks). Anything inspired by the Russian revolution of 1917 piques my interest. I may check out the first book. Does it end on a cliffhanger?
I would add the Dandelion Dynasty series, especially Grace of Kings. However, with the way things are going in the real world, I might as well just read only cosy fantasies going forward. xD
Red Rising????? Please tell me you've read ole Pierce Brown, Tom. Huge political moves all throughout, about to start Light Bringer and its currently trekking to be an alltime favorite series.
Lol, I think if you're someone who likes politics, you're probably preoccupied today 🤣 Cool list though. I'm about 30% through Curse of the Mistwraith at the moment and digging it, I can see why it makes the list - Athera's a very interesting place in the way the government system has changed in those centuries while the monarchies have been on the back foot.
@@johnthebiker300 That's fair but just know that there are some sci fi books that are just a must read, like Dune, Foundation and Three Body Problem. If you like Tolkein or R.A Salvatore you will like these three here.
Great list! Dune immediately came to my mind when I saw the video title. Loved the politics and court intrigue throughout the series, especially prevalent in Dune Messiah.
“For no particular reason…” 🤣 This was a fun video!
Glad you liked it!

Yeah really makes the series feel different compared to a lot of other stuff I’ve read.
Mastering the algorithm. We aren't worthy. ;)
You just needed to add, "Here is my (s) election of books!" for even better SEO! ;)
Haha not a bad idea
Orange dude good shit as always
Thanks!

The Wurts journey is something else!
Great video idea! Added a few of these to my tbr!
Love to hear that!

I appreciate that! I have not read Messiah yet though I really want to. I had such a good time with Dune when I read it.
Excellent list Tom! I love how you elaborated on some of the themes the politics explore as well.
Thanks!

I don’t remember it ending with a cliffhanger. If I’m remembering correctly book one ends in a pretty good spot
@TomOrange excellent

lol the real world is scary. I have been meaning to get to Dandelion Dynasty forever

Also amazing video idea for election Tuesday
I’ve not read it yet. Pretty sure I own the first three too

Good list, although personally I am not into sci-fi
What do you not normally like about sci fi?
@ as someone who has never watched DrWho, Star Wars or Star Trek , I feel quite comfortable in my decision to not read sci fi.

Hmmm what completely random timing.
So random lol

I still need to read Messiah
