For anyone studing history, I'd 100% recommend "A Little History of the World", by EH Gombrich, it's a short, delightful book, whenever we start a new chapter in History, I'l always read the corresponding chapter in the book.
Picked it up at a library book sale for $0.50 (they were getting rid of books to make room for new ones) and never got around to reading it. Didn’t realize it was that good of a book, just picked it up because it looked kinda interesting
Honestly don’t even worry about this. I’ve been reading on my own for a while now, and I’ve noticed that my scores on English assignments, tests, and exams as well as the ACT have been fairly high, with a lot less studying than for other sections. Just read something everyday, whether it’s actually an informative book or just some novel.
Doesn’t really matter what books you read as long as they have new words and stuff. I’ve been reading at a college level since the 4th grade maybe even earlier just because I always read a ton of books.
That does seem effecient. I'm mainly interested in romance novels, and I often look up unfamiliar words from them. I try to use context clues, but I usually still don't get it. I'm also trying to learn a new language, so when I read, I immediately write down a new word and its meaning just in case i need to go back to it. So I'll apply the same thing with words in English bc I'd recognize the word but often forget the meaning
