Maybe I'm weird but if my dad offered to pay 2500 for a dress that i would only wear for one day for a very few hours for one id feel guilty and blessed, i would definitely not shop for one way over that set price. Some of these women have no guilt of spending someone elses money. I dont get spending so much on a dress. Maybe its because ive been poor my whole life, i see so much more i could and would spend that kind of money on.

I'm with you. I had a very elegant wedding when marrying my current husband. All told we spent about $2K. With my first wedding I borrowed my cousins dress and an imported veil from a friend who had spent $150 on it!

Or at least, if the price was 3000 maybe the budget could be stretched but within a reasonable measure

It gets me every time.. my first marriage my dress was also my something borrowed. Getting married again hopefully soon(finances) but I'm not going for a crazy priced dress this time either. It's about love not what your dress costs❤

You could ignore the comments. Sometimes, I mute it and just watch. You can tell by the brides' expressions how it's going.

I love the parents for giving a certain amount. From there the bride should make up the difference.

Oh my goodness, I really wanted to see all the dresses, but the dialog was just too over the top! Probably ok for one dress, but to hear the continual drama over each dress became nauseating and unnecessary.

The second dress that Jennifer tried on has a skirt very Identical to the one that Jackie wore when marrying John f. Kennedy! So that was a vintage style dress. And when is a budget of $ 2500 to go to a dress that us 'a little over budget' be $7000?

The amount of $$$ parents spend raising children & then the added stress of spending on a dress you wear only 1 day, 1st bride doesn't care about her appearance or she'd get to a gym or try dieting but the dress had to be double the Dad's budget 🙄

My daughter had a very sweet wedding (her second) and she didn't want to us for much, so she bought a beautiful used dress, a relative made the veil, and she was absolutely stunning. Brides can get great deals on used gowns, and that way you don't go through your wedding day saying, "how Ami going to pay for this?" I bought a dress on sale ($50.00 in my day) and I incurred no debt for my wedding. My parents of course did help. So did my in laws, but we kept it all reasonable.

I have a comment on the color of wedding dresses. It is NOT a tradition set in stone for hundreds of years that brides should wear white. We’ve seen the trends move slightly with the addition of cream, ivory, beige, and blush dresses. That’s great but I think we should go further. The beautiful brides of African American descent, Indian, South American, Indonesian and others have some of the most gorgeous skin colors you’ll see. But when I see these beautiful skin tones and a white dress, well it doesn’t look right. For some of the lighter skinned women the creams and ivories might work. But for the deeply pigmented skin, it cries out for color. Reds, blues, purples, bronze or gold, greens and possibly even pumpkin. If a bride saw herself first in a white dress then a colored one, it might just change her mind. You could even try the bride in vivid colors and her attendants in white or pastels.
I’m not sure today’s brides are bold and fearless enough but I do know what I’m saying. Years ago I got involved with the whole “colors” movement and to my surprise it was what I’d advised friends and family on. My mother always loved peach and wouldn’t listen when I told her that was for a Spring while she was a Summer. We were out at the fabric store with her still going on about peach as her perfect color when I lost it. I grabbed two full bolts of gorgeous linen blend, one peach, the other soft rose. My mother was a somewhat petite blond, with blue eyes and fair skin. I pushed her in front of a full mirror, took the peach fabric and draped her in it. She felt it was perfect. I made her look carefully at herself and fix in her mind what she looked like. Then I took off the peach and draped her totally in the rose. I let her open her eyes and look. She was silent (honestly I was ready for her to pick peach; she was stubborn) and after a long minute or two, she said “You’re right, I see what you mean”. Well that was a day rarely if ever seen. To be sure we reframed, first peach, then rose. And she finally accepted that yes, I did know something after all.
But I’d still love to see bridal gowns in color for women of all colors.
