A lot of them got traded in when Hoover offered money off a new Hoover during the 1970s and 1980s. We had a few in our garage but they had all seized up.
WOW!! 🤪 I just got one of these on eBay and here you are with a video on one. Lol 😂. Please do a refurbishment and I will definitely follow along with mine. Thanks a bunch for the video.
Wow nice find good price too and agree if the right vacuum turns up close to you no good to haggling just buy it .. we got a nice old hoover last week.like that just jump in the car and brought it . but not as nice as your convertible though.
+nickart2203 I'm so amazed to find one! They usually go for waaaaaay over my budget! Bonus is apart from being faded to crap its in great condition (grille aside but they all do that I think unless your very lucky!)
In the United States our Hoover Convertibles dose have the zip bag designed while the hard bag models is called the Dial A Matics as before the Concept models
Very nice Sam, after a good clean and a fan clean, some peroxide and sunlight on the back body and that will be perfect! Fantastic! 😀 Quick tip, if and when you use peroxide to take out the yellowing, don't use clingfilm to keep it moist, it will patch terribly, cover it eith a smooth clear platic sheet, similar to a rubble back or something. 👌 So excited for you! 😊😊😊
Beko1987 Hehe, it is pretty easy, I have done it many times on old phones and vacuums, you just spread on the 12% cream peroxide straight from the bottle, not too thick and not too thin, less is more, cover it with a smooth plastic sheet or a clear plastic box and leave in the sun light, you have to move the pieces as the sun moves, as the burning UV sun is what makes the process work...you will see how quickly it pulls the brown tinge out of the plastic and into the peroxide. The peroxide treatment (retro bright) is quite magical, it is a chemical reaction, not a bleach, so it doesn't damage coloured plastic or the lettering. 😊
NumaticVacuum I'll refurb it first then. It smells old and musty (which I think is bloody wonderful) but Amy disagrees so I can't use it atm (when she's here...) had to run the concept round today, first world problems... (the vax has thrown a belt, must look at that tonight!)
I saw your restoration on the ManchesterVacs site and noticed you installed the fan upside down when putting grease on the sleeve bearing. The open side of both fans should be facing the belt side.
Some berry basket containers from food mart (if the baskets are not the clear ones) might be a close color match to repair the upper ribs. Or a ribbed basket from the pound store.
I had one of these and a Concept 1 and I've always thought that it was a mistake for Hoover not to have just put the Quadraflex agitator brushroll in this instead of making the Concept with a soft bag and going back to the older type of hand tools setup. Both had the best build quality of any Hoovers ever since the 800 series but the Dial-A-Matic was the first real modern upright with a design still used today.
I'd love you to but I sold this a while ago now, just didn't click with it as I thought I would, and didn't fancy the idea of it being shoved in a loft for years going more brown! Thanks for the offer though
Sure did. There's no after video as such, I rolled it into 12 vacs in 12 months when I used it, November or something I think. There's a refurb thread on mvacs for it though

This is such a lovely looking vacuum cleaner. Classic!

Another super video! Really enjoyed it - and your enthusiasm! Thanks.

The handles on these machines are notorious for becoming jiggly...hopefully you'll find some filter bags...Can't wait to see your demo😀
That's a good find and not a bad price either. The convertible's are about as rare as hens teeth. It sounds and runs okay as well, a good result.

NumaticVacuum I do want to try retrobriteing, but maybe not straight away, will refurb it first then see next year. Or I'll send it to HooverLux!

NumaticVacuum you mentioned sun, no chance of that again this year then!
Beko1987 😂😂 Yeh, indeed! It needs cloudless summertime sun for it to work effectively.

Well done on getting that

From eyeballing it up the brushrolls on this and the concept 1 may fit each other... Will have to try that!
Would you let me send you some proper bags, and also a foam filter for the front panel grille?

My nan has the earlier orange version, it still works 50 years on. Did you manage to fix the motor sound fully?
I absolutely love it.
Sam, did you ever get round to refurbishing it? Is there a video?
