This was an AMAZING game, brings memories of my 10 year-old self playing for hours and hours. The great boss fights at the end of each level were particularly memorable!
It’s awesome that many more people will get the chance to play this and all of Konami’s TMNT releases in the upcoming collection. Konami worked hard to deliver the quality that the TMNT brand was known for at the time.
The was actually THE turtles game in my household. I was a kid and saw a ninja turtles cartridge and wanted it! My grandmother bought it and it was this game. It’s one of my first ever games and made me love gaming, very near and dear to my heart. I’m always shocked people don’t talk about this one. I almost prefer it to turtles in time
Ah man, I loved this one as a kid so much. I remember finding it to rent at the video store as a kid and having no idea it even existed at the time. I later ended up getting it for my birthday and played the absolute hell out of it. And yes, that easy mode was real nice to me as a kid.
My parents were rather stingy when it came to new games. I only ever got them on Christmas or my birthday. So rentals were my main avenue to new gaming experiences. I remember it being so difficult to find this at rentals. Somebody always got to it before me. When I finally had my chance, it was some of the most fun I had in my life.
Just finished playing this game on my emulator , really wish tmnt 2 the arcade game , TMNT 3 Manhattan project and turtles in time/hyperstone heist would get a trilogy remake
@@Ogles can we talk about the flickering though? I remember as a child thinking there was a problem with my cart. Nope. Even the emulator has it.🤣 A minor inconvenience in an otherwise amazing experience. Aw man, and if ya got the game Genie goin? Forget about it. Lol
You know what would be nice to see? A remake of TMNT 3 with cel shaded graphics that match the animation style of the 80’s cartoon, & with new gameplay mechanics such as: (1) 4 player mode (2) have some of the moves from Turtles In Time like throwing Foot Soldiers into the screen (3) Arrange some of the bosses (like have Rocksteady & Bebop fight together) to have room for new bosses (like Baxter Stockman or that Triceraton shown in the TMNT 3 box cover). (4) Add new enemies like Pizza Monsters & Roadkill Rodneys.
Great video! This was my a LEAST forgotten NES game: I only got to rent it once or maybe twice, then it never showed up in my Blockbuster again... I checked every single time I went untill they discontinued NES games there. Finally got it and beat about 6 years ago and it was my single longest outstanding video game achievement. I play it regularly now with my kids and they love it, and all the other Turtles games!
If I'm not mistaken, the special moves of the turtles in this MP can be seen also in the TMNT Tournament Fighters on NES. My brother and I used to play this MP and the Tournament Fighters. These two are some of the best games on NES. And ... no one talks about the Tournament Fighters!
I think you're right that it's the same moves in Tournament fighter but I need to load it up again, been forever since I played it, lol. And you're right, even fewer people talk about the tournament fighter, especially the one on the NES!
Great video breakdown! I’ve run through shredders revenge a few times already, but while doing so, I can’t help but think about how much I appreciated tmnt 3 and the things you described. Def one the best games I’ve played and one that easily gets forgotten in the discussion as you said. Beating this game with my brother is a cemented memory. No saves, no cheats, no sleep lol.
Me and my friends would play this and II nearly nonstop on the Nes. This game had something over Turtles in Time and that was pretty much a who's who's of the Turtles Rogues gallery. From Rockstandy to Super Shredder.
Loved this game. It was one of the 9-10 games we owned as kids. And since we didn't get an snes until about 2 years after it was released, this game got played a ton. One of my favorites on the NES for sure. Definitely took everything that made TMNT 2 great and made it even better.
You were lucky to have this be one of the 9-10 games that you had! It's such a great game and really did perfect what TMNT2 was trying to do. Thanks for watching so many of my turtle videos!
Didn't get a chance to play it growing up but now that iam 41 i bought it and played it tonight. Friggin awesome game! played it with my 7 year old daughter she loved it!
This, American Gladiators, and Jurassic Park were the last 3 NES games I got, though I can't remember exactly the order. I did love this one so much. There were more moves, like special attacks (that you could use without losing life if you had a single tick of life), and a throw. It felt so much like a Turtles II: The Arcade Game improvement.

Once I played Turtles in Time, that became my favorite of all, but I still love the other two to this day, and I'm very hyped for the upcoming collection, where I'll finally get to relive all of them again, on a modern gaming system!
This was one of the few NES games I had as a kid so naturally I played it a lot, and LOVED the Ninja Turtles. It is super fun, I only managed to complete the game later on using an emulator when I was in college. The only complaint I have about Manhattan Project is the near complete lack of pizzas.
Was an awesome Christmas present then! And Hyperstone Heist is often forgotten about too for some reason. It was just as good as Turtles In Time, but I'm not sure why more people don't talk about it too.

TMNT II was a great game
I never played Manhattan project much growing up. I never had a copy of it so I only played with friends who had it. It did expand on the arcade game and was very fun. I might have to give it another play and see how its held up!
You should def give it another try! It did expand quite a bit and being specifically built for the NES instead of just being a port really shows as you're playing through the game.
Yes. Awesone game.
What franchise has more good games you can't buy or run?
How exactly is this game forgotten?
Did I just see Paul Rudd?
This game highly surpasses the second and first one still got the game
I have never heard of this game 🤨
Game is hard to me.
You should try out rainbow six siege
That’s what I’m sayin
This game was dope ,tbh tmnt hyperstone heist (Sega) should of took more notes from this game especially with they story compared to turtles in time it was mediocre and garbage 🗑
It really is such a great game and did the beat-em-up formula so well!
