But this story reminded me of another one (which I think is real, unlike this one) where OP was fired because her boss wanted the bonus that would come with the million-dollar contract with a German client that OP was looking after. The problem is that OP speaks German and her boss assumed that everything was done in English. In a rush, the boss wrote a German contract using Google Translate that was full of errors and failed the online meeting because she thought the client would speak English. Or something like that, I heard this story during the pandemic.
