Subbed! Great review. I’m debating buying this for travel with a family of 5. In your opinion, is it a pain in the butt to remove and reattach the tonneau cover before and after use?
Not at all. I fold mine down or take it off all the time and it just takes a few minutes. I find that I leave it up most of the time because I like the look and I love being able to throw things in there quickly! You can fit so much more in the softopper than a regular tonneau cover because of the height
Nice! I've been really happy with mine. I had a tonneau cover on it before and averaged 23mpg overall...with the sofTopper on it has dropped slightly to just below 21mpg. It's mainly noticeable on the highway at high speeds. But it's been worth it for me!
@@jonathanmiller3613yeah that's the MAJOR downside to them...when I camp I make sure anything valuable is in the cab when I leave the truck. And my normal daily driving I don't leave anything back there...so if you have stuff you want to lock up sofTopper isn't the best option
Yeah it definitely gets hot, especially if you're camping back there. I made some mesh screens to help with that though, here's the video on what I did: DIY Mesh Screen for SofTopper Using Magnets! ua-cam.com/video/5uldnNziAr8/v-deo.html
You can get a used fiberglass topper for less money i paid 900 for mine fully loaded less then a year old. There all over the marketplace for cheaper than a new soft topper
It’s a question of how often you need to remove them. They are superior when they are on the truck, not so much when you have to take them off, store them, and put them back on.
It really was a great video. Must have answered just about everyone's questions. You showed it being put on and off, driving with it. I finally saw one in person yesterday it looks great. Having had convertibles I know that fabric is tough but you have to be careful of sticks and trees when you're in the woods. At least I would imagine so. That 303 is good stuff.
@@RM-bx2zt definitely, anything that sits out in the sun needs some 303. I even use it on the black plastic on the truck too. A little TLC makes these things last a lot longer!
Yeah mine curves a little bit too, I haven't noticed any problems with it bending though! I think it has to do with the shape of your bed rails a little bit
Does the front (cab side) of the topper have a window that opens? In other words, if your truck has a sliding rear window, would you be able to reach into your truck while camping?
They actually make a DIY dog window cutout for just that purpose. I don't know how well it works but it's worth a shot! I didn't see that you secured the back to the tailgate. Online some people say there is a velcro strap for the back to keep it from flapping and some people seem to do a magnetic strip hack. Did you install the piece that keeps the back door secured to the tailgate? Also how does the front window panel secure to the bed as I didn't see you undo anything when folding it up. (velcro or snaps?) Thanks.
I put the Velcro on the tailgate when I first got it but it came right off when it rained so I just took it off...I'll have to look at doing the magnetic strip. For the front window panel I drilled holes in the bed and put the snaps on. The Velcro just doesn't last!

Yes they do! That's the attachment points for the buttons on the topper
Awesome review! How is the 305 holding up with the topper? On their site it says u don’t have to add any protectants? Would you recommend still adding it for longevity?
Yeah even with regular cleaning and care I've noticed that it looks faded...the 303 makes it look brand new and protects from UV fading
Great review video. Thanks!
You're welcome! I hoped it helped!
And I noticed that your topper doesn't have a 3rd brake light on the soft topper...have you had any issues without the brake light yet...? let me know if you have...Thanks for the 80 mph speed trip...that was cool not having to worry about how faired...
Michael, I live in FL. have had my ST on for 1yr…have not been stopped by local Deputy of HP. We don’t have car inspections here.
I haven't had any issues without the brake light. Some states require you to have the light but not in Utah where I'm at!
@@TregsTravels Thanks Treg, Gosh that is a name I've not come across in years...I went ahead and ordered a brake light from the dear I bought the soft top from...Matter fact, I went shopping and on my way back I passed a Eldorado Cop and he followed me off the hwy 50 and then I pulled off the road thinking that he was going to check on me and he drove right me...Thanks for the vid's and Ute mts are where I use to hunt for gold...Lots of Spanish gold found there and Mel Fisher found sheep skins on the Atocha ship wreak that the maps showed where the mines that most of the gold came from Utah in the Ute mountains...You may be asking how did sheep skins last that long in history in the sea, and I've no idea...The Mormons were shown of some mines by the Chief of the Ute Indians...
@@johnbendt678 Yep! I grew up in Tampa, Fla and went to High School with a lot of the wrestlers back in the day...lots of great fishing too...thanks for the reply...
I'm having problems snapping the sides down
It can be pretty tight at first! Make sure you have the straps tightened as much as possible, that'll help
Awesome video!
Thank you!
I’ve had my ST on F-150 supercab 8’ bed XLT. You mentioned car wash…do you take through automatic CW of bay type with manual wand? Thanks JB
Or Bay type.
You can do a touch free automatic car wash or you can do it with the manual wand! I usually do the automatic car wash then wipe it down with the 303 cleaner/protectant
2014 F150 ST crew cab 6ft bed here.
I go to carwash that has manual option.
Awesome review, I'm sold
Thank you! Glad it helped!
I wonder why they don’t make black rails and poles
I think the same thing, it would look a lot cleaner
Great video
Thank you! I hope it helped!
@@TregsTravels Fair enough, thanks. I just took delivery of an f150 and I’m not ready to give up on the factory tonneau cover yet.
Have you heard anything good, bad, or indifferent about Fas-Top as compared to Softopper?
The only thing I've heard is some people have had a harder time keeping the side flaps down on the Fas-Top
Same company.
Can it handle the weight of significant snow?
I've had about a foot of snow on there without any problems!
Good video!
Thanks! Hope it was helpful!
@@TregsTravels very, I also enjoyed the drone footage. I'm going to check out your other videos for sure.
Does it kill mpg on the highway?
It dropped mine about 2 mpg
Can you open the tailgate without having to lift open the rear part of the topper?
Yep! The tailgate opens just fine when the rear window piece is left closed
Thank you! Getting mine tomorrow and that was my only concern as that’s a pita to undo the door every time lol
Great review. I'm looking at softopper now that they have one for my 22 frontier. Have you noticed a significant drop in mpg with it up?
Nice! I've been really happy with mine. I had a tonneau cover on it before and averaged 23mpg overall...with the sofTopper on it has dropped slightly to just below 21mpg. It's mainly noticeable on the highway at high speeds. But it's been worth it for me!
@@TregsTravels okay i can prob assume ill get 19 mpg... hmm man the only knock is the lack of any sort of locking feature otherwise its a definite buy
@@jonathanmiller3613yeah that's the MAJOR downside to them...when I camp I make sure anything valuable is in the cab when I leave the truck. And my normal daily driving I don't leave anything back there...so if you have stuff you want to lock up sofTopper isn't the best option
Do you find black gets to hot in the sun
Yeah it definitely gets hot, especially if you're camping back there. I made some mesh screens to help with that though, here's the video on what I did: DIY Mesh Screen for SofTopper Using Magnets!
ua-cam.com/video/5uldnNziAr8/v-deo.html
@@TregsTravels thanks for the response I was stuck between black or tan I think I’m going with tan plus the mesh cheers
@TregTravels got the tan still warm but I could only imagine how much hotter the black top would be
You can get a used fiberglass topper for less money i paid 900 for mine fully loaded less then a year old. There all over the marketplace for cheaper than a new soft topper
Definitely a good option! Just depends on what you're looking for. There's pro's and con's to each 👍🏼
It’s a question of how often you need to remove them. They are superior when they are on the truck, not so much when you have to take them off, store them, and put them back on.
First! Great video. Thanks
You're on top of your game! Thanks for the support!!
Just got one. Fit is great! Rain test next 2 days traveling.
@@RM-bx2zt awesome! Put a little weather stripping up front and make sure to use the seam sealer on the inside seams👍🏼 good luck!
Does the bed rail frame bend in the middle? Mine is curved for some reason and not a straight line. Great review! 🎉
Here's the link: softopper.com/products/dog-window-diy-cutout-kit-clear-universal/?sku=AC-DOGCK-CLR&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAtt2tBhBDEiwALZuhANHAor8_p9CNSRdn7oZ6DH9mo0qM9t6Q2qXlUBXvTit10212RnmYShoC8IkQAvD_BwE
Thanks! Dog window, toddler window...same thing!@@TregsTravels
I love this product. I worry about the easy removal. This old world has me SMH
Yeah...I definitely wouldn't leave anything of high value back there. It would be very easy to break in and take whatever they want
Received defective Softopper, purchased 3 weeks before planned vacation. Finally returned it after more defects found. Canceled trip. Still no refund received. They will not refund 100%, they need to ‘restock’ items. Wonder who next gets this garbage shipped to them.
Im sorry that happened...it's crazy how people's experiences can be so different cuz mine has worked great
For a thousand bucks it should come with that cover smh
I completely agree 👍
Wow. I wish I had your arms.
Wowwww...you know I wish I was you everyday of my life!
You cant use it for camping! Thats a deal breaker
I camp in mine all the time?
Got a discount code? I re-watched and going to purchase
@@caldwell5078I wish I had one for ya! I'm not sponsored by softopper at all unfortunately
@@TregsTravels you should be!! I was on the fence between best top and soft top. You have the most compelling video in support of soft top! When I buy mine I'm going to reference you and tell them you were the sole reason I purchased!!
@@caldwell5078that's insanely nice of you!! I really appreciate the support!
Looks miserble...
Why?
After taking it down you ended up with a wrinkled crumpled up mess. I can only imagine what it would look like putting it back on in the cold after three months in the garage. I think you said be careful with the window three times in the video and you weren't careful with the window.
@ it's really not a mess, it stretches out pretty quickly. And I said be careful with the rear window in the cold cuz it can crack. When it's warm you can move it and roll it however you need to
Good morning, thankyou for video. I need help from you. If you still have assembly instructions please contact me...
Hi! Sorry I don't have the assembly instructions anymore but you can find there online here: softopper.com/installation-support/installation-instructions/
