If this was a contest, Hughie won this one. That bluegrass meets hard rock melodic picking beats the other two any day. Rickey's solo was still good though.
So very clear to me that H.T. was getting gary real nervous at this massive "outlaws" talent~love he got gght & some other "outlaws" riffs in before he was silenced~the best by far~Hughie forever!
I wondered about that. Gary's opening solo did not make sense to me. I could not figure out where he was going with it and why so long stuck on a riff that did not even try to show what he can do...not a crowd pleaser for sure. And playing with your teeth had lost its ability to amaze well before 1996...Comes off as trying too hard by imitating Hendrix...and Gary had nothing to prove by then. But I do not understand what you mean by his getting some other riffs in "before he was silenced". If you mean by the crowd, the response of the audience to Gary was more immediate and slightly more enthusiastic than the reaction to Hughie... inexplicably since Hughie had the better solo.
dude, these are the best southern rock guitarists ever!!, im 15 and I like lynyrd skynyrd, i wish i grew up in the 70s, music was better then, some music now is crap, gary makes rough picking sound amazing, hes very classical, hes my favorite, hughie awesome, loved the ghost riders in the sky, and rickey shredding it.
I never got to see Lynyrd Skynyrd. The plane went down less than a week before they were to play in Chattanooga. I was fortunate to see Allen, Gary, and Billy Powell play in the Rossington Collins Band.
You got the guys who played the solos on the three greatest guitar solos in Southern Rock here, Gary who obviously played on Free Bird, Hughie's relentless shredding and wonderful singing on Green Grass and High Tides and Ricky's face melting leads in Highway Song. Lets not forget where Hughie and Ricky came from, they are truely amazing singers and guitarists. Rock On.
Gary went outta his comfort zone for this 1...stick to what you know sorta deal cuz he’s a phenomenal guitarist...hughie, ever since I heard green grass and high tides I knew he was a god damn incredible gunslinger along with billy Jones...and Rickey medlocke is hands down the best musician in skynyrd to date...plays just about everything and shreds on guitar like no other...skynyrds always had the best 3 guitar attack and it still rings true
I agree with you...& I always seem to repeat this, but it needs highlighting : not only is Rickey Medlocke a great picker ---- his sense of melody, exhibited in Blackfoot , is truly God given. A Master Musician... I know as I've been playing over 50 yrs. myself. ............clubs on & off many years. He is a Master ----- at melody also.
The reason , is. , because he was heavily influenced by The late , great , Paul Kossoff, of the Band FREE ............. TASTY & deliberate .....similar to Mick Ralphs too..........( of Bad Co.)
@muscletruckdude No, Allen played a 58 Gibson Explorer. Rickey also has a 58 Gibson Explorer, however look at the headstock around 5:39, its his Ibanez Destroyer. In the 70's, Ibanez made a bunch of Explorer and Les Paul copies (Known as the lawsuit era). They were pretty much identical with the exception of the name.
What a dangerous trio . I have often wonder, with Hughie and Rickey if they ever as they toured with the LSB that they did not include songs in the set list of LSB , from the Outlaws and Blacksnake their respectable catalogs when playing live ?
i am soo out of the loop. i just found out that huey passed! Been mourning all week! and i live in brooksville. My heart goes out to you Mary. Sorry for the way you have been treated. Karma will catch up.
Hughie blew em away.. just think what would have been if he had joined Skynyrd in the early years...But, Im happy with what he put up in The Outlaws, Never would of been if he had joined Skynyrd....I like Gary and even a corporate Rickey.. But The Flash was THE man. There was no one that compared to Hughie,Billy Jones and Allen Collins. And NO ONE will. RIP gentlemen. Rickey was using Gary's axe btw.And ,still couldn't touch Allen's playing. Either way, enjoy the remaining above ground, cause there will be NO ONE to follow after these boys are gone.. Enjoy these times. When these guys are gone, a whole genre will disappear. Its called southern rock for those who are to stupid to know. Thank you gentlemen for remembering the music. ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!
+natrix611 If you buy the DVD and watch the whole performance, Gary seems drunk as fuck. At one point during Alabama, the whole band walked down the stairs of the stage and it seems like Gary wasn't in control because Johnny had to kind of stop him. Must of been full of cocaine lol.
As a Guitarist i would say Hughie had the best style, Allen Collins was the best Technician and Dave Hlubek (Molly Hatchet)was the best shredder. Rip to All
Elonna R Gotta agree with you, the man kicked ass. He's another one that should have been more famous then he was, but then again, playing with Skynyrd's no small thing hahahha
Hughie was a fantastic picker. R.I.P.
Hughie. Such a blinding technique.when he left skynyrd ... I knew they couldn't find a guitarist as good as he was..unique..rip...Mr. Thommason
For sure, we love you guys, your very special to me complete bad asses.
🤘🏼💀🤘🏼. 🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
RIP Gary! Your music will live on for a very long time🕊️
RIP Gary and Hughie
Ricky was smooth and brutal, love it
HT is awesome and I don't understand why the Outlaws are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Obviously outlawed
You guys were the most awesome rockers ever, just incredible, you are loved ❤ and greatly missed 😢.
Hughie is THE MAN!! PERIOD!!!
Huige was one of the best guitarist I've ever heard .
His name was Hughie.
Yes he was, that’s for sure. Love these guys❤😊🎸
Hughie I pray that God has a place in his orchestra just for you!!!! When I get there I would love to join you in a jam session!!!
"Remember, kid, there's heroes and there's legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart, kid, and you'll never go wrong."
Hughie && Billie ... and Duane && Dickie ... The best of the best .
Hughie is miles above the other 2! But then the outlaws were incredible!
+Dave Foster yess Man
Rickey knows melody also ...not just pickin , man ----
Rickey as good as Huie!!
Rickey, Hughie, Dave Hlubek for southern rock.
Nah,just different styles.
If this was a contest, Hughie won this one. That bluegrass meets hard rock melodic picking beats the other two any day. Rickey's solo was still good though.
Love the backdrop on stage!!
All three have different ranges of playing the guitar great sounds God Bless R I P Hughie thanks to all of you.
I'm fond of many guitarist, Gary being #1 over and above all! But wow! Hughie really showed me a thing or two!
So very clear to me that H.T. was getting gary real nervous at this massive "outlaws" talent~love he got gght & some other "outlaws" riffs in before he was silenced~the best by far~Hughie forever!

HUGHIE BY A MILE
What the fuck was Gary doing? Long live to Hughie! \m/
HUGHIE!!!! ONCE A OUTLAW ALWAYS A OUTLAW!!!!!
Hughie was a genius. Would have loved to see him and Steve Gaines do something.
That's teamwork that makes dreams work.....
To this day Hughie is King
Gary sounds like me attempting to impress my friends after polishing off a pack of Grain Belts…
ricky's tone kills!!
THIS WAS STRAIGHT AWESOME !! GOTTA LOVE IT ALL.
No Matter, They're ALL GOOD
ricky medlock rules!!!!!!!!!!..
Seen many iterations of the skynyrd boys. 15 shows since 1991. I never witnessed anything like this at any of them.
Imagine Hughie, Allen Collins and Billy Jones in that Ghost riders Band up in the sky 🏆🏆🏆
Old school...old. And verry good sound....
dude, these are the best southern rock guitarists ever!!, im 15 and I like lynyrd skynyrd, i wish i grew up in the 70s, music was better then, some music now is crap, gary makes rough picking sound amazing, hes very classical, hes my favorite, hughie awesome, loved the ghost riders in the sky, and rickey shredding it.
Hughie was a badass...........
No doubt about it.
Love these guys, they knew how to bring it on home. 🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
I loved when Hughie and Billy Jones would harmonize guitars in the Outlaws.
U got that right damn they got a southern flag behind them
Racist treason flag
Gary's great too
4:00 Green Grass and High Tides?
Yes, is the intro of Green Grass!
So glad to be alive!!!❤️😎
Imagine if Allen Collins were up there! Man oh man!!
Man your the first one to mention Allen he was my favorite in Skynrd
I'm an Outlaws fans so I have to put HT at the top...probably would even if I wasn't....But Gary's tone is , and has always been awesome!
What a great guitar player
Rickey Medlocke is really quite a colossal
6 foot 2 inch tall Native American Indian man.
I never got to see Lynyrd Skynyrd. The plane went down less than a week before they were to play in Chattanooga. I was fortunate to see Allen, Gary, and Billy Powell play in the Rossington Collins Band.

He is a Master ----- at melody also.
Gary was never used to improvising
Man I love Gary but he couldn't hold a candle here to either Hughie or Ricky. Man that Strat sound though.
Gary was never about speed, just taste and feel. Dude is getting up there, but still kickin'
The reason , is. , because he was heavily influenced by The late , great , Paul Kossoff, of the Band FREE ............. TASTY & deliberate .....similar to Mick Ralphs too..........( of Bad Co.)
He sounded like shit here
Dam NICE, Guitar Heaven!
Step aside, Hughie is here Damn Rickey! Gary is too cool.
This unusual to hear solos like this the original Skynyrd never did any.
We all know the answer to the question. YES WE WILL REMEMBER YOU.
Not gonna lie. That 96 lineup was badass!
Man, That's the Way We PlaY!
Gotta say Rick is good too
WOW!!!
Thank you, Nice video, I like :)
Pianist Kiyoshi from Japan.
I subscribed your nice channel.

Hughie!!!!!! Goddam that strat was hot…..
What a dangerous trio . I have often wonder, with Hughie and Rickey if they ever as they toured with the LSB that they did not include songs in the set list of LSB , from the Outlaws and Blacksnake their respectable catalogs when playing live ?
Nope..But Hughie always managed to put a riff or run into a solo from GGHT or Ghost riders during a jam in his Skynyrd days...
i am soo out of the loop. i just found out that huey passed! Been mourning all week! and i live in brooksville. My heart goes out to you Mary. Sorry for the way you have been treated. Karma will catch up.
ghost riders in the sky!
Fucking awesome.
sweet
GARRY is e MAN!!!
Why does it appear that there’s a backing track and they’re not actually playing?? I hope I’m wrong.
Shoot....Medlock was the best of these...still Collins was unbelievable. Sorry he left us so soon.
All three kicked butt imo
Lynyrd Skynyrd is the Best American Band. Their music is the soul of this nation.
1. Ed King
2. Steve Gaines
3. Allen Collins
4. Gary Rossington
Gary rossington: ngilu
Hughie thomasson: acoustic
Rickey medlocke: rock
Nothing acoustic bout The Flash.. Its called southern pickin at its very best.
what is ngilu
Man, that first bit sounded like two whales on crack going at it. HT can really play.
Alan Collins watch the man rip
Banda Boa porreta
saved the best for last!!
gary has to be wrecked!
He was strangling that poor Les Paul...it's almost a hate crime. Hughie was one of the best American guitarists ever...criminally underappreciated.
Best lineup since the Original.
Got to give it to Huey with the melodies
@muscletruckdude In isnt Allens actual guitar. They both played explorers in the 70's
Good morning to all.. How's Gary ? Sinceheart incident?
did ricky inherit allen collins's explorer? its even got the same bridge
Hughie . no contest .
I know it ... Thank you friend of mine
Hughie
Yes
Thank you ctvrod
HT smoked it hot
sorry I had to come across this one. guess I'll need to hunt down another rossington vid that will redeem this one.
AMAZING, LYNYRD SKYNYRD WILL ALWAYS KICK ASS! MAY THE DINOSAURS RULE THE WORLD FOREVER.
Nice! WooF!!
Is that his explorer from way back in the day at the end?
that is a reissue and it's NOT allen collins that is rickey medlocke
Hughie blew em away.. just think what would have been if he had joined Skynyrd in the early years...But, Im happy with what he put up in The Outlaws, Never would of been if he had joined Skynyrd....I like Gary and even a corporate Rickey.. ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!
That was not Gary’s guitar. Medlocke has used that for years when he was in Blackfoot.
Outlaws and Skynard toured together .
First one from Gary had resemblance to Gary Richrath from REO.
Ht wow...
Whatever Gary Rossington did in the first 1 minute of that solo - it has Duane Allman rolling in his grave - just fucking awful.
man I miss HUGHIE something B A D ......
@sanch1972 Damn right!
Gary was feeling a little too good that night.
Rip to All
Richard still had alil bit of real estate up front back yonner 😆
NO CONTEST
Hughie kicked it in this one, Gary sucked, and Medlocke was really sloppy, best performance quality of skynyrd is definitely when Hughie was there.
Steve Gaines would've put them all to shame! RIP Steve
Norberta Concho You might be right, but Hughie was just an awesome guitarist.
TwangyDan TheGuitarMan I think that Hughie and Steve were one step the others! RIP
Was there any such thing as a bad, or even mediocre, Hughie performance?! Probably not.
Elonna R Gotta agree with you, the man kicked ass. He's another one that should have been more famous then he was, but then again, playing with Skynyrd's no small thing hahahha
ru drunk gary?
