The late literary critc Harold Bloom was in disbelief when he heard that there was a recording of Whitman, while he was disappointed in the specific poem, he was floored to hear his voice.
The recording is a quite obvious fake and Harold Bloom's disbelief was entirely justified. Alas, I'll bet he was won over by sheer wish fulfillment and credulity.
I can't understand any of it. When I first heard it on NPR a couple of decades ago when the recording was discovered, I could understand it. It seems like the clean-up has made it unreadable. At first, I thought it was Latin. Congratulations to whose who can make it out.
THANKS, ITS HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS SAYING. I OFTEN WONDERED IF FRANZ LISZT EVER GOT TO RECORD HIS PIANO PLAYING OR EVEN HIS VOICE. THERE IS AN OLD VIDEO OF FRANZ LISZT IF YOU LOOK IT UP BUT IM NOT SURE IF ITS LE GIT OR NOT. FRANZ LISZT PASSED AWAY IN 1886 I THINK IT WAS. HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST PIANISTS IN HIS TIME.

I've heard this recording at the Walt Whitman Birthplace Interpretive Centre, and this is a good cleanup of it. Nice work, m7m!
Where is it located?
@@Granillo824 Huntington, New York
Having the actual poem on screen would have helped

Wish there had bern subtitles, but to have secured a recording of his authentic voice to begin with is antiquated American MARVEL in its own right.
One of my friends are related to Walt Whitman and we went to the birth place today for a c quest field trip. C quest is for smart kids.
You think you're better than me?

. What evidence can you present to substantiate your claim?
Amazing
Very good job removing the extraneous noises which are very annoying. 👍
Wtf, Walt just mentioned the internet! He was way ahead of his time, that's for sure.
Yup that’s him !

The first musical superstar, adored by his fans
I want this to be real so bad. I hope it's real, but I cannot understand a word of what he's saying.
“eeeample”
All I need now is to hear the voice of Shakespeare.
Uncle Walt is enough for me!
Did walt have a southern or trans-atlantic accent?
It would’ve been better if you had the phone in the the

It’s a shame the audio is so badly processed
It was recorded in 1888. This was a new technology at the time.
I think it’s fairly good. I can make out the second half a lot.
How does this have like no must and static if it's like 200 years old
bruh are you kidding me its 130 years old
it was well preserved in an archive because its a historical artifact
The noise was digitally removed.
He looks like Alec Baldwin to me.
