I know the premise for this arc is weak, but, I have to admit, it's enjoyable to see Mihrimah have a chance to flex her own ability. Especially because it feels like foreshadowing of how she'll one day wind up governing the harem after her mother's death.
The only reason this arc exists, since it didn't happen in real life, is because Meryim (Hurrem actress) quit the show because she was dealing with a mental crisis. They couldn't go on a haitus while they found a new actress and get her up to speed on things. So they had to create a fictional arc in order to buy time.
If anything, this scheme really only shows how far Hatice has sunk into a version so unrecognizable from her former self. This plan might get her what she wants, sure, but it could also outright doom Mustafa, for all she professes her want to see him on the throne.
At least series got it right. The sultana of current sultan outranks all the other dynasty sultanas. This means mihrimah sultan outranks Shah and hatice. If they try to give an order on her, it can't be followed.
