For the people suggesting hyperventilating. DO NOT EVER DO THIS IN THE WATER! You'll predispose yourself to a black out and death. Instead take a course in freediving. Learn how to hold your breath for a number of minutes underwater more safely.
There's a lot of neat tricks to help with holding your breath for a long time. 1. Practice controlling your heart rate. It's possible to mentally slow your heart rate, but it takes practice. 2. Before attempting to hold your breath, hyperventilate for a bit. This helps to oxygenate your blood to higher than normal levels. 3. Immediately before holding your breath do a full exhale. The ridiculous kind where you can't possibly exhale any more, then do a massive inhale. 4. While holding your breath, do not move any muscles. Attempt to relax as much as possible and start trying to lower your heart rate the best you can (basically by relaxing). Do those 4 things and you will be shocked how long you can hold your breath as opposed to simply inhaling and holding it.
2 minutes and 26 seconds for the win! But I still think that Producer Simon's was more impressive. He did his while on camera. (Meaning that he was probably battling an elevated heart rate.) Great show guys!
Give her all the money for this! xD In all seriousness, thanks for what you guys do I love these videos :], hope you guys get more and more viewers! She is drop dead gorgeous :3 Also, I cant hold my breath for like more than 15 seconds xD but my lungs suck, Asthma ftw! :'p
while i didn't really try to hold my breath, my record is around 5 minutes. Basically to achieve this i spent a minute taking large breaths, holding it for a few seconds and then slowly exhaling. In increases your lung capacity and lower your heartrate a bit. Second was to not move around. If you do, If you do you use energy, and energy requires oxygen. So just those two factors can actually let you hold your breath much longer than normal.
If you train your body with slow deep breathing exercises and hold your breath in intervals you can increase the amount of time you hold you can stay underwater by I think almost half the time.
Why is it that after holding your breath for a long time, slowly _ex_haling already feels like a relief? Is it because the partial pressure of CO2 in your lungs is dropping and so the acidity of your blood decreases?
Once in high school I held my breath over 5 min. I sometimes get this "eternal yawn" where I feel like I need to yawn but can't. First day with a watch I got that while laying on the couch watching TV. Ended up lightheaded from too much oxygen. Decided to time holding my breath. I pinched my nose and cupped my mouth. Kinda forgot I was doing it, looked and was already over 4 min. Made it to like 5:12 or something.. couldn't do that now at 35 and a smoker! Lol
Amadon Faul dogs logic is wrong because the record holder goes into a meditation so he thinks less about breathing probably like you were doing but I'm not really impressed by 5 mins above water because anxiety plays a huge role in how long you can stay underwater just by the presence of being well underwater so if you can learn to slow your heart rate and ultimately spend a lot of time in the water to relax your body like you would on the surface then practically anyone could achieve 5 min plus dives. btw the record holder was 22min underwater....
But you're.. Nevermind that's still a REALLY long time, but really Chuck? Must be tough to fight sharks when you only got 5 minutes and 24 seconds, but you are Chuck Norris. o-o
I was born 8 months in my mother's womb.that means premature right?.also that means i have smaller lungs. That is my disadvantage to holding my breath.
aiman nabil redhani premature means underdeveloped lungs. It's quite likely that they eventually fully developed. A pulmonologist cannot tell if you were a preme.
When you all dove under the water and there came up a 4-way split screen with peoples names, I thought you'd time it, so we could compete against you. Took me at least 2 hours to realize you weren't timing it for us on UA-cam, so I'm going to stop holding my breath now, because I don't really know when I began the video.
0:23 I didn't think I would ever see the day. *Thanks BBC!* :)
I was SO Surprised when Maddie got pushed into the water

4:34, she held my breadth for the length of the video, I win!
2 minutes and 26 seconds for the win! But I still think that Producer Simon's was more impressive. He did his while on camera. (Meaning that he was probably battling an elevated heart rate.)
Great show guys!
Finally the bikini we asked for! Made my day!
I usually completely empty my lungs when i try to "hold my breath".

3 minutes and 30 seconds underwater was my personal best after three attempts. Ended up with slight temporary numbness on the limbs.
They must've had so much fun filming this episode :)))
I love this channel! I held it for 01:12
This channel is criminally under watched.
2 minutes and 25 seconds :p never thought i could hold my breath for that long, certainly not given the fact i've got asthma :)
Maddie's so dang lovely.
How long do you have to be holding your breat and touching cold water until the dive reflex quick in? Love you videos!

I agree with you

Is it possible for a human to imitate dolphins ability to sleep with half their brain while awake on the other?
Amazing, made my day! :D
And just when I thought I couldn't love her more....
Why is it that after holding your breath for a long time, slowly _ex_haling already feels like a relief? Is it because the partial pressure of CO2 in your lungs is dropping and so the acidity of your blood decreases?
I believe the partial pressure of CO2 would be increasing, which would make the blood more acidic.
Taylor Vila But that would hardly feal like a relief.
that is great... on my last dive i was down there for 2:56
2 minutes. Secrete not moving and eyes closed. With my eye opened I can't not hold it as long.
They don't bulls are colour blind. It's the movement of the cloth that attracts them
Super gemacht !! Darf mann mit Machen ?
I can't even hold my breath for 40 seconds, last time I tried
Great video
They don't, they hate the moving. They can't see colours. Also, wouldn't you hate the guy that stuck spears in you and stung you?

No, I had my nose pinched and my hand tight against my mouth. I wasn't just mentally not breathing.

Oh my goodness

there's some fish hunters in Asia that lower their heart rate and can be under water for close to 5 minutes. It's real cool
