- Опубліковано 4 лют 2025
- The Newsroom is back for their second episode, and I believe we are in for more epic, witty newsroom, live broadcast drama.
In this clip I hope to show you the innovative and quick thinking of a live broadcast news
producer/ floor manager.

"Shut up!" "Copy that." I love Mac and Will so much.
Yea I love the "partyin,partyin,partyin YEA ! Partyin, partyin,partyin whoa 🙌(hand raise)"
I love how he just switches from Dad at restaurant with his kids voice, to presenter voice instantly
You can hear a woman's laugh and some thing crashing on the ground. I think he was with a woman who was not his wife.
@@soumilsingh8530 i'm sensing a low quantity of brain cells.
1:47 you can hear the chatter and celebration from brian's kids on the phone. mac also tells him to 'get to a quiet place, hurry.'
2:07 brian is rushing to get to somewhere quiet and bumps into something, probably a plate of food, that smashes on the ground, or launches it into the woman who lets out a yell, or brian just bumps into her as he's running. he even apologies and says 'i'm sorry' as she also says 'oh my god' as a surprise reaction.
i don't know where you got that woman laughing from and came to the conclusion that he was cheating on his significant other. the clip already established that the man literally has children, which i'm pretty sure is the sign of a stable marriage.
@@PlutozReal i could indulge myself in this discussion but i'll leave it with this: all the evidence is literally in the clip. plus, while brian is a minor character, from what we can assume (he literally works for a news company with morality at its core), he's an upstanding citizen who really wouldn't be cheating on his wife.
so, only as much evidence as one can gather from the clip and reasonably assume.
@@PlutozReal From a story stand point, there really is no reason to make him have an affair with his wife since it adds nothing to the events/themes of the scene, and Sorkin is usually pretty rigid in what he keeps in and out of his narratives. Having something that dramatic and never touch on it would be... well would be silly.
However if you choose to believe that you can, but if it does nothing to add to the story, I don't personally see the point?
@@PlutozReal Yes sure, let's assume that they're gonna make a whole ass storyline with a character who isn't even shown on camera outside of this voice call. How dumb one has to be geez.
Nothing hotter than a person who is an expert at his/her job
I love how this shows just how good Mak is at her job.
Yes. I love this. Sometimes it seems like Mack is undermined but she really is good at her job and expressing that is beautiful and wanted!
Still wish they hadn’t gone down the Mac can’t count and loses her shit publically route. But yeah she’s great
@@rebeccaelliott9770 She can obviously count, or she couldn't keep track of how far ahead or behind they are in the middle of the show. News producers have to react quickly to that kind of thing.
@@larrysmith2638 That's not an easy skill to master!
Try _backtiming_ on an analogue face clock sometimes... and then come talk to me about counting!
@@tekvax01 I agree. I wasn't minimizing her skills. You misunderstood my meaning.
I worked at a DC station moving from tape to all-digital format in 2002. It wasn't unusual for us to lose video/graphics in the middle of our first month of newscasts. Oh, and we were an all news station. Lots of VO's became readers, we'd have to extend the weather segments to fill time lost because we had no packages to run. It wasn't unusual for producers to leave the control room after the show, in tears, and soaked in perspiration. This show always makes me so grateful I got out of television. I love it, but the triggering amounts of PTSD are so real.
Noam Musk yes probably. I’ve never been in that situation like the OP; but I’ve been in something similar. Like, as a software engineer, we did a software update deployment at 4pm that went wrong, and me and my entire team were up until 2am doing everything we could to figure out the issue and roll out a fix. At the end I had to go outside and just YELL for a solid minute, then we all got drunk on the office supply.
And this job is that for a few hours every day.
Or, as an extreme, take a look at an episode of Hell’s’ Kitchen.
yup! happens _all the time!_
I had a similar experience when we made the switch from Beta to DV tape, then again to digital. Everything you said is spot on. Sometimes I miss my news production days, but most times I just thank the Lord I'm out of that game.
I worked a digital sound and lighting board back in the early 2000’s for my college. Yeah…shit gets real quickly when things go down live.
PTSD in broadcasting? I think you’re misusing that term...
I just love how the show did these things just to show how things happen in a TV program. This scene doesn't advance the plot in any way, it's just to show how shit can happen and you work around it. Love it.
You're funny.... *CAN* _happen_ , *does happen* more often than you'd know! _fun times, when the on-air path goes down!_
As someone who has worked as an AV technician for live events and meetings. This was awesome. They MacGuyvered a live news coverage.
happens all the time...
Haha you said MacGuyvered! Love it!
@@Mikyda3 ME TOO
Smart people doing their jobs with skill. I love it.
Smart people don't become journalists.
@@John-Adams Frankly that's a shame
@@John-Adams why?
@@yahtadi5152 Because journalism is what you have to resort to if you lack all skill in writing and critical thought.
@@John-Adams what? You basically saying you have to be smart to be journist, i dont understand. You said smart guys are no journalist. I asked why? And you answered with: if you want to be journalist, you have to be smart
Wut?
I don't know whether the cast would be happy to come back each time for one off specials but i'm pretty sure Sorkin could right a new 3 part special each year to coincide with real world issues. I'd be ALL the way in on that. Loved this show.
They really needed to be on the air during Trump presidency. Will would have been losing his mind.
@@terrygracy8345 As opposed to a Clinton presidency where children would still be locked in cages, people still would have been deported, war would still have been raging, nobody would still have universal, single-payer healthcare, etc.?
@@terrygracy8345 I think Will would have taken Trump as a sign that his mission to civilize had failed and retired to a beach somewhere.
This is the very best version of this clip, hands down. Thank you.
3:37 - The first time I watched this episode, I was expecting Will to be dry and acerbic towards the crew for losing the board. I lost it when he started singing "Friday".
I've worked in broadcast PCRs and this is very, very accurate.
yuppers! happens all the time...
So no one is gonna bring up the fact that Will is singing Rebecca Black's "Friday"?
Directly into Mac's ear while she saves the broadcast
Does anyone else think that he did it better?
@@PerthScienceClinic shut up. She is a wonderful singer
@@mrdragonage7446 I didn't say otherwise. NIN's version of Dirt was good, but Johnny Cash's was sublime. Pulp's Common People was seminal but William Shatner redefined it.
I just think that he did it well and I would love to see Ms Black release a version with Jeff Daniels assisting.
Thank you! I couldn't place it.
you know you did something right when a show about reporters and news reporting as it should be gets the axe because certain folks were getting salty for the callouts and play by play breakdown on their bs. I'd love to have this show back.
*cough* Nancy Grace *cough*
Why does people kept assuming it got the axe instead of finished?
This wasn't cancelled. Aaron Sorkin said he didn't wanna write for television anymore and he finished the show and that was it
After West Wing, Sorkin said he’d never do another tv series longer than three seasons. And rather than carry it on and let it decline in overall quality, like the West Wing, the show ended after three seasons.
Educational use should come at the bottom of anything Aaron Sorkin is involved with
The timing of the guy clicking is so relaxed :D.
How great would this show be right now. They got cancelled 2 years too early.
They didn't get cancelled, Sorkin always does 3 seasons
William Escobedo he did 4 seasons in the west wing
It wasn't cancelled; but you're not wrong, it would be great right now!!!!!
Not canceled. Sorkin wanted to move on to other projects.
@@saarah5816 and he's said multiple times after that he would never do 4 seasons of a TV show again. He said he would do 3 and that's it.
Anytime I go to a Benny Hahn Restaurant I immediately smile to myself thinking about this scene! Cheers Gang
Partying partying Yeah!! Partying Partying Woh!!
Chaos in the control room, meanwhile Will is just chilling to a viral song from the early 2010s. XD
THESE PEOPLE MAKE THE LIVING WORTH IT.
"That's optimistic"
made me giggle nervously... those days in the control room happen...
I worked for the Weather Channel back in the day. The place was rather schizophrenic because one the one hand, on air TV had to be perfect down to the frame, but the whole place was run by weathermen (persons of weather?) who were used to being wrong half the time. I worked in the "on air" computer department that did the local forecasts "on the Eights." For a long time I could watch a local forecast and be able to tell you which computer feeds were up or down, but had no clue, at the end, what the weather forecast actually said.
the switcher crashing on air is NEVER a good day! #beenthere
It's funny because here we had a similar solution (patching the camera directly.)
Luckily our local station got a second room now. Worst case is everyone running to the other room. Haha
The light show it did was overkill
It must be been the mainframe going down! :P
@@annekedebruyn7797 YUP! we've done that too! hard patch the camera to the proc leaving the room! fun times!
Once we had the main routing switcher go down! we used *EVERY* patch cord in the building to get the morning show on the air!
I even went patch cord hunting in the edit suites to find as many as I could...
Another time, TD spilt a bottle of _filtered_ water inside the switcher, while on air across the country!
I had someone run to the makeup room and grab every towel and hair drier they could find... the switcher thankfully survived the bath!
@@tekvax01 Flagship network control rooms like ACN (or in real life NBC or CNN) would still use IBM AS/400 mainframes to run all that hardware, wouldn't they?
I feel for them losing the board and the graphics. Lord knows I have been there.
fun times! been there too... *(usually the expletives are stronger in real life, however...)
I can’t hear the HBO white noise without expecting the Sopranos theme
Funny, I feel the same only expecting GoT or Newsroom. My reaction is usually something like "Oooh, what's coming up?" In a highly anticipated tone. 😃
Me with curb
I need a full version of friday by Jeff Daniels
Someone should talk to Rebecca Black's people...
RIGHT?! :P
MacKenzie was really good at her job.
I love how he's just singing to himself like an idiot.
Mac is f*cking amazing !!
Ay-yi-yi! Many people would be glad I'm not in broadcasting; I'd be freaking out. Better that I stay away from a journalism career. I'll stick to fiction-writing. 😁
Friday Friday !
Would it be possible to bring back the show?
That's optimistic...
so cool
Doing this live seems and having it sound completely seamless is very unlikely. Even if I had both voicelines on my computer, it would me take several minutes to pass the second phrase in and even then it would only sound halfway decent. People are underestimating how fluent one word is going over into the next one. You can't just cut after one word mid sentence and pass in another phrase there without some creative polishing. And the latter part takes time. You can't do it on the fly.
Least believable thing is that Will would know Friday.
Educational purposes, sure... just trying to find a way into fair use.
yea it is educational...
because people in broadcasting/production/audio appreciate it
0:50
This show gets production control room techniques so wrong. A video production switcher can't perform audio edits. You can't do it from a speaker phone on the fly. The audio operator would need to route the signal and an editor would need to make the change and publish the new media file or the audio operator would have to try to cut in live. Very tricky to do and she never said a word to the audio operator.
Everything went wrong at once, it's like saying the Q wordnin the ER.
OMG,how much do we need this show now, post Trump, Epstein, Andrew, and global warming.showering with biden.just to name a few topics.
"for EDUCATONAL use only"
I worked in TV news for 15 years - there is no way any of that could have happened in real life.
Lose the opening credits.
Gaddafi ??
what about him?
Jeff Daniels sings thar song so much better.
Why would Kuwaitis feel the need to celebrate the end of the Cold War anyway?
this would never work what
happens all the time during live tv...
this sucks
You dont exist in an alternate time space boy .
