    Very helpful. I got TMD after extraction retraction procedure. I actually didn't stick with the procedure and have now an implant. But I do have muscle tightness/tenderness in my jaw chronically which also spreads to my neck, back and basically whole body, not painfully but annoyingly, uncomfortable. Now I am thinking about getting orthodontic treatment to get it fixed.
    I am mainly worried about not finding a highly skilled doctor and cost of treatment.

    Hello, My ENT recently confirmed what I had been told by my orthodontist over 20 years ago after extraction orthodontia. I did not realize that this condition is the cause of a myriad of ongoing debilitating issues I was currently having. I suffer from sinusitis several times a year so I keep my ENT on standby. Within the last year, I’ve been under extreme stress and in a period of six months I’ve developed migraine headaches, vertigo, blurred vision and now am wearing Rx to work, tingling in my toes and an annoying ringing in my ear which is presently keeping me up at 2am. I’ve always had the clicking jaw. It is effecting my mood and overall life as many times it is difficult to focus. After a bout of ER trips, docs visits and CT scan no one can find anything specifically wrong. I now have an appt with a neurologist next month. It was not until my ENT told me I had TMJD I started to put everything together. I did not know that it effected your whole system in this way initially. It was quite difficult finding a dentist in the area who specializes in this disorder. I’m finding that insurance unfortunately does not cover much of the treatment and the NTI guard which is several hundred dollars. This treatment at this point is not optional for me because I cannot function normally at this point. Is there anything you can suggest that would offer immediate relief to immediately relieve the pressure that is causing all the symptoms. Thanks so much and God bless!

    At 9 years old, I was diagnosed with locked jaw. Over the years, my jaw stopped locking up and started popping and pain. I lived with it for over ten years. Now I am 35 years old, I just got diagnosed with TMJ and trying to get help for it. I saw an orthodontist that I will have to pay out of pocket for.

      Hi! It can be a tall task to expand the jaw once a certain age has been reached. Also, the long-term effects of extraction/retraction were unknown for a long time.

    Hi doctor, would you be able to let us know the different types of splinter and the usage of it (probably in the next video), and also which kind is more suitable to tmj wearer. I understand there are also day and night splinter, may i know the differences.
    But for people with bad bite / clencher will splinter be the long term solution?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  3 роки тому +1

      It's not so much about the type of splint or orthotic; it's more about the relationship between the upper arch and lower arch.

    Hey doctor! I currently have TMJ and I’ve been wearing my splint for around 2 months now. My TMJ doc told me I should wear it for around 6 months. Was wondering if I could get braces once my treatment is done? I have an overbite and crooked teeth, and I’ve always wanted braces to straighten them and fix my bite.

    Can you do a video on what you do for your patients that had pre-molars extracted that now have TMJ problems? Obviously, we can’t get those them back. 😞 Are they always treated the same way as those w/out extractions? & are these patients more difficult to treat?

    Hello there. Im not sure if you will answer to this as this is an old video. I've had TMJ for more than 15 years and almost always my jaw is locked closed. What I do to unlock it is push a small muscle on my joint and I can open fully. My teeth were not aligned for my bite to be correct, so I now have Invisalign hoping that fixing my bite will relax the overactive muscles. Keep in mind that I only had a problem on the left side.
    A few weeks now and after 1 year of Invisalign (i still have some months left) I now have a problem on my right side. Im in pain and I have to push the muscle to unlock my jaw to open. Im very worried as to how I should continue. My dentist seems to not make the connection, im not sure she is a tmj specialist but there arent many in Greece.
    What I want to ask is if you think that theres a chance Invisalign made it worse, and if so, who should I be advised from and what kind of tests should I do to find out whats going on. I wish i was in the US so I could visit you, but im trying to get as much insight as I can on what my next steps should be over here . Its very frustrating, I have a lower quality of life because of this and I cant take it anymore

    Theoretically, if you’re teeth never touch (correct posture) does that mean occlusion shouldn’t matter? Occlusion matters only when your are occluding. Is that a better way to look at it?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  3 роки тому

      Hi there! Our teeth come together 1000 times a day when we swallow and also when chewing, clenching, and bruxing.. so occlusion does matter :) Certain occlusal schemes have a higher chance of leading to TMJD.

    1) Does overbite cause the TMJ?
    2) And does orthognathic bottom surgery can help to correct the jaw overbite and cure the TMJ at the same time?
    Or overbite and TMJ are different issues?
