    I’ve been wondering why I have had eye floaters and tearing for 10 years and no eye doctor, neurologist or regular doctor could figure it out. You have no idea how helpful these videos are to me! Thank you 🙏 Have you ever had any patients that had success with getting rid of the eye floaters after treatment?

      The eye floaters are a very rare symptoms so I can't really gauge success of treatment well. For one patient, I did have success.

    This is a pretty informative video. I grinded my teeth my entire childhood but I didn't experience TMJD symptoms until I was already in my late 20s about ten years ago. I would always have this pain behind one of my eyes, it wasn't a headache, it just felt sore. Hard to describe the sensation. I had this for a while but then I started to get the ear popping/clicking sensation and It felt like my ear canal was blocked with wax, even though it wasn't. I went to my family doctor and then to an Ear/Nose/Throat specialist and they all failed to diagnosis TMJD symptoms. I was dealing with this for over a year. It was only when I decided to do some more research and then go to my doctor that I was able to get confirmation of my TMJ issues and was fitting with a night guard. I am disappointed my first two Doctors couldn't figure out that this was one of the possibilities to my pain.
    After using the night guard, my pain significantly reduced almost immediately. I was good for years, but then I got a new office job, in front of the computer all day. It's been about 1.5 years and my eye strain/redness was the worst it has been. I went for an eye exam and then informed me that my eyes were misaligned and that this was fatiguing my Trigeminal nerve which is connected to TMJD as you are presented in your video. The sensation behind my eye came back, and I was getting headaches after my shifts at work. My TMJ issues that I thought I solved years ago started to come back because of my office job in front of the computer. I got these contoured prism glasses (Neurolens) that are supposed to help my eyes look at the computer screen without being fatigued. So far so good (only been 2 days)
    It is interesting how this one nerve can affect so much. I hope more people can see these videos so they find relief. I will check out more of your videos as well!

    After experiencing complete disability with my head neck and jaw last year, my eye doctor told me I had early onset cataracts… I’m 41. Fast forward to now after a year of orthotics, physical therapy, atlas orthogonal and an anti inflammatory diet my eye doctor just told me I have no more signs of early cataracts! This is such a relief, I can’t even tell you. I’ve had pain and pressure behind my left eye for months. I’ve seen an optometrist, an ENT and my primary care doctor, all of who said my ears/eyes/sinuses are fine. I was referred me to a neuro-ophthalmologist to get checked for MS or an aneurysm, but the wait list is insane. One doctor even told me to go to the emergency room. Scared the crap out of me. I’ve been struggling with TMJ pain for months, thanks to an Invisalign treatment that left my jaw totally misaligned. I will start exploring this. I had no idea TMJ pain could cause pain and pressure behind the eye, otherwise I would’ve explored this much sooner.

      @@karisss4763 Hi! So sorry to hear. I’m working with a new Invisalign provider to correct the issues my initial treatment caused. I had a really rare bad experience the first time around. It seems to be helping but I still have bad days. What has also helped are eyedrops. I finally got in to a neuro -ophthalmologist, they tested my tear evaporation rate, said it was way too fast and gave me prescription drops. After a couple of weeks, I felt better. So for me it’s been a combination of jaw issues and dry eyes.

    I'm so happy I found you. I have really bad TMJ. It moved from the left which started 6 months ago, on the right side. It started about 3 weeks ago on the right side, with twitches under my right eye, eye floaters and pain near the TMJ. My facial muscles are as hard as rocks and I have 6 ongoing months of infernal pain of head, ears, eyes, neck, mouth, face pain. It's too bad that are so few doctors who give their interest in this disorder. I've seen like 15 different doctors,otorhinolaryngologists, neurologists, dentists, reumathologist, done a head MRI, no one could identify the source of the pain, until I ended to see a maxilo surgeon and confirmed. Thank you for your videos and for all the explanation!

    I started having issues due to dental work made on a bad bite...my dentist completely ignored my symptoms, told me to relax, told me I have an ear infection. I went to multiple specialists and they all told me to go to an orthodontist as the cause is local ( face tingling and numbness, eye pain, headache). I finnally got confirmation that my issues are due to the TMJ and have a plan..I spent two years and a ton of money on dental work that caused more issues than I could have had without it. The lesson for me is..do your own research, look for good doctors, ask for more opinions. If your dentist or dismisses your issue, change them immediately! A surgeon who specializes in TMJ confirmed me in 10 minutes that this was the cause. Be careful...our bodies are complex and we need to take good care of ourselves and be vigilant.

    My brother's jaw started clicking when his wisdom teeth became impacted. He woke up one night 10yrs ago with permanent tinnitus and eye floaters. His floaters have gotten slowly worse over the years to the point he has loads of them. He read online that TMJ can cause eye floaters but an optician has told him TMJ can't do that. He also sometimes has blurred vision, blue entopic field phenomena, and light sensitivity. His floaters are stringy and float around and don't really impact him from doing anything. But every now and then he will see dark and translucent spots that can block text when reading and stuff like that. He says when he gets this he will look at a white background or a light source and blink to see them floating around. After a minute or two they fade away. And in the summer when he catches light reflecting off say cars and windows, the black spots can glow orange. He's done tests to see which eye these black and glowing shapes are in when they appear and the exact same shape or shapes can float between both eyes. This indicates to us that these shapes are indeed all down to TMJ. Because how would the exact same shapes be able to float from one eye to another like that. He will close one eye and blink while looking at a plain wall and see a black or glowing shape. Then switch and do the other eye and the exact same shape will then be in the other eye too. And after a minute or two, they vanish. He will also see an afterimage of bright light sources. He looked at the LED light in our fish tank last night and he could then see an afterimage of that light in his vision for 5 minutes afterward. He's not had his wisdom teeth removed as they are close to the nerves and he fears all the complications from that. I've told him to go for a coronoctomy and have the tops of the teeth taken off and leave the roots in.

    TMD causes the following eye symptoms according to NCBI:
    1. Eye Pain or Pressure (behind, around or under)
    2. Blurry Vision (put stress on the Ciliary Muscle or due to bad signal sent eyeball itself due to muscle and nerves inflammation)
    3. Photophobia (due to over stimulation of the Trigeminal Nerve) + Lacrimation
    4. Eye Strain ( Stress on the Ophthalmic Branch of Trigeminal Nerve)
    5. Floaters (Some muscle or irritation affecting the eyeball by putting stress from outside)
    6. Strabismus (Rectus muscle inflammation or loss) + Trochleitis
    7. Visual Snow Syndrome (Rare but it happens in 2% of TMD Patients especially if Tinnitus is present)
    8 . Increase IOP (in some patients) - Ocular Hypertension (IOP is slightly higher than 21 mm Hg but less than 28 mm Hg) or Glaucoma (is a very rare Complication 1% especially if the optic nerve is weak and have a big CDR more than 0.8 Cup-to-disk-ration)

    I have been experiencing extreme dry eye, pulling, along with TMJD. Eyes drops a very temporary and dryness returns.
    Is there a connection or research on this matter?

    How could your vision go back to normal if you have tmj?

    • @theTMJdoc

      if the vision issues are ENTIRELY due to TMJ, they can be eradicated over time with orthotic therapy.

    Thank you for educating us, what about constant dry sniffing. Also what if one side of the lower jaw is a little shorter than the other, can this cause a cross bite on the other side maybe from pulling on the shorter end

    • @theTMJdoc

      I don't know about the dry sniffing. A cross bite can be caused by asymmetry.

    Mam, Does myofacial release help in curing TMJ permeantly?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  3 роки тому

      If the issue is mild muscle inflammation, then myofascial release could help long term. If there’s involvement inside the joint itself, then myofascial release won’t help permanently.

    Can double vision and sinus pressure be related to TMJD?

    • @theTMJdoc

      These are not the most common symptoms i see, so I don’t really feel comfortable saying they’re directly related to tmjd. I suppose they could be.

    Hi Dr. Priya, I recently got TMJ from impacted wisdom teeth that caused overcrowding. I recently started invisalign and had my wisdom teeth removed which is helping fix the TMJ. I did notice that when I am focusing with one eye on my phone and then try to focus on something far my vision it takes a bit for my focus a few seconds to clear up. My left eye which is the side where I experienced TMJ and I noticed it will drift inwards then back to center when I focus from near to far. What should I do about this? Thank you!

    So what’s the treatment?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  3 роки тому +1

      We treat TMD with orthotics, myofascial release and osteopathic manual jaw manipulation. Even then it can take 4-6 months with weekly or biweekly appointments for symptoms to resolve.
