Just another great moment in Southeastern Conference football. Richmond Flowers Jr. was a very special football player, and his father was a great human being.
@travellinman321. Tennessee integrated their football team in 1968 with WR Lester McClain. He wasn't the first to integrate that belongs to Kentucky with Greg Page and Nat Northington who were signed but they didn't play much or at all.
@volswaff My first year at UT was fall 66,,,Missed this one but wow what a game. Imagine beating anybody who had Csonka and LIttle? DEEEEEEEE FENSE ! Tom Loughlin Jr- UT 1966-69 Syracuse 69-72 (yeah...conflicted on this.)
@HaywoodZarathustra. Herman Edwards. Larry was 6'3 while Jack was barely 5'10 and that is not including the offensive line of the Dolphins like Bob Kuechenberg, Jim Langer, and others who kept him in line.
I not talking about styles. Floyd could kick, catch, and return punts. He did it all. Larry could ram through but in college and his first two years with the Dolphins, he lead with his head which made him susceptible to leg tackles but small guys. Then Shula taught him to lead with his forearm. Of course, Larry had Jim Kiick and Mercury Morris while Floyd had nobody till Otis Armstrong came later in his career.
Wasn't the reason Richmond Flowers played for Tennessee was because his dad (who was Attorney General of Alabama) opposed Gov. Wallace's segregationist policies?
@panthers7775. That was Dick Butkus laying on Charlie Sanders for the Lions. But he did hit Riley Odoms and nailed Rocky Bleier with a forearm which he was fined 750 dollars due to the fact that Howard Cosell went crazy on that one during his MNF telecasts and called for his punishment. Maybe, he could go against big guys but not against Howard and his lawyer skills.
@panthers7775. Darryl was only 6 feet and 185 Ibs compared to Larry Csonka who was 6'3 235 Ilbs. But Jack did hit Earl Campbell. Maybe, he had a white guy complex. Who knows?
@Ariamaluum Well, did you ever read Jack Tatum's books? He says he never got the better of Larry Csonka, who used to routinely punish him. Regarding Floyd Little, he says he used to beat Floyd to a pulp, LOL. Paraphrasing, "I'd hit poor Floyd and his eyeballs would roll back into his head. Floyd would wake up on the sideline with train whistles blowing in his ears."
Floyd Little was great in the pros but Csonka had a more prolific pro career. Csonka had three 1000 yard seasons to Little's one. Csonka was also the MVP of Superbowl VIII, Little never played in a Superbowl.

Syracuse football coach Ben Swartzwalder was the head coach at Parkersburg High School in West Virginia in the late 1930s.
I was at that game, as an 8th grader. Lived in St. Augustine and went with a friend and his Dad.

My dad was at this game.
He was a freshman at UT that year.He can't remember anything about it because it was 45 years ago.
wow this is great, thank you for putting this up
No. Otis Armstrong from Purdue University who played for Denver from 1973-1980.
There a bunch of Hall of Famers in this game
our 1966 offense looked more modern than our 2008 offense....sad.
@gern2000. Just take a look when he was with the Giants in 1978.

I didn't realize Little played long enough to play with Otis Anderson. I'm guessing it was in Otis's days with the Cards???

What was up with the sign incident?

@Ariamaluum or that TE the lions or rams had who was like 6'4 240 and he lit into him like theres no tomorrow
They shoulda played in the Orange Bowl ;)
RIP Floyd Little. And these teams obviously had awful kickers.
Tenn dominated. The final score was deceptive.
Eh.. 2 different types of running. One thing's for sure though, they both could still play in this day and age.
some of those 'kids' look like they're near 40
Cool. My opinion only. Give Floyd the offensive line Kuechenberg, Little, Langer, Evans, and Crusan.
Floyd Little was a better back than Larry Csonak in college and the in the pros.

@Ariamaluum Are u kidding me...
No he wasn't.
